Quote the Arrow:
Cut to today when Universal Pictures confirmed that the release date of this highly anticipated flick has moved up! Wait, did I just hear myself say moved up? Yes I did.
Fans no longer have to wait until October to check out Romero's newest zombie opus. This puppy's hittin' the streets on June 24th. Now that's a big jump up and also makes LOTD officially a summer release. Hoo boy is that a sweet, sweet helping of good news!
Thanks Arrow!
You have got this long time 'Romero Fan' very fucking jacked!
Great fucking news to say the least...
Time to knock back a couple cold, cold ones!!!

this is great news...they just better start marketing ASAP, its going to be tough tides in terms of competition with batman begins opening the week before and war of the worlds opening the week following LOTDs release.

It doesn't stand a chance. It makes more sense to release it around Halloween. Any horror film is bound to perform well in October regardless of the competition. I wonder what inspired this jump.

Lets not jump the gun here gentlemen, although I do have some reservations about LOTD getting lost in the proverbial shuffle. Its too soon to tell, suggesting that LOTD is going to fall between the cracks is highly speculative at best...BUT, lets not make any kind of snap judgements just yet.
How do we know that films like the "Fantastic Four" or "Batman" are going to do all that well? Even with the hype surrounding these films, either film could fall flat on its face and be a complete box office disaster!!
A bit of history: Back in the summer of 1989 their were 2 major films making there debut "Batman" and "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade". Because of this, Eon Productions made a terrible business decision to release the new 007 Film "Licence To Kill' that very summer.
This caused the Bond film to get lost in the shuffle and didnt generate the same kind of revenue that the Bond films normally do at the Box Office...so with that, I only hope that Universal Studios and George A Romero's "Land of the Dead" dosent suffer the same fate! But Like I said...way too early to call it!
We are speculating idly, anything is possible and we still havent seen one trailer for LOTD yet...it could quite possibily surpass any or all expectations at this time. Now, isnt that a possibility to consider?

i'm hoping it'll work out...
whats the budget looking like for this film, just trying to see what kind of cash it would need to make its profits back and such?

When it started production it was reportedly at around 10 million. There have since been reports confirming that Universal is funneling more money into the project because they are supposedly so pleased w/ it. So who knows what the budget's sitting at plus marketing costs. Sounds to me what they originally thought would be typical Halloween fare they're now banking on being Summer blockbuster material. I hope to God that it at least makes it's money back.

No matter how much i want to see this bad boy , i would much rather prefer the in the mood season of fall , with the falling leaves , and the end of summer , and the cool breezes , it lends itself more to this type of film , in fact this is the only time this last installment should be released , as close to Halloween as possible .
I get the feeling they will be in a mad rush now to complete the film , for me there is no rush , let it come out at the proper time instead of trying to piggyback or bookend all the blockbusters during that time . Let G take his time and do it right , let all the hype die down from the summer movie season , then release it , in October .
I waited this long , what's another couple of months , nothing really , but if the quality suffers , it will be a mistake .
Maybe if it does well , and i'm sure it will , they can release the uncut version in October , now that i would wait for , in fact i would skip the R version altogether if i knew they were considering the possibilty .
I'm still holding out some hope an uncut version will makes it way to theaters eventually , somehow , someway , this r cut just isn't doing it for me , and i know it's not what Romero intended .
Uncut and in October , that's all i'm asking for .
And i doubt Batman will fail , it's going to be huge , they really would be smart to let the blockbusters fly and leave the summer alone altogether .
Falling leaves in Autumn equals zombie goodness .

Damn , i just thought of something , you said they are increasing the budget , damn , didn't they say they couldn't film in Pitts because it was too expensive , now they decide to give him more money , wish they would have thought of that before they decided to make it in Canada .

I am looking forward to this movie, I really am, but I'm confused about something. Why is everyone positive? Generally, I guess most people here figure that studios wouldn't know quality if it bit them in the rear, right. But suddenly when a studio is pleased with a film, everyone's jumping up and down, as if suddenly studios are now bearers of geat taste and judgement. If anything, doesn't this mean the movie looks to cater totally to mainstream (look at the new release date)? Isn't that . . . bad news? I'm actually just being negative for the sake of it all, but now that I'm here, might as well ask. Although I have a sneaking feeling that everyone here is being positive just because you get to see the flick sooner than you thought, in which case, I'll join in.
It should be great.

There are many reasons to be positive. First and foremost this is a new zombie movie-- a subgenre of horror films that most horror fans love. But it's not just another zombie movie-- it's a George A. Romero zombie movie. He basically invented zombies and his films IMO are best representative of the various zombie films out there.
Also this film will finish the storyline that began way back in 1968 when Night of the Living Dead was released. I have read the script/treatment for the film and it should be a fitting conclusion to the series.
But even if you care nothing about any of these things I've listed above there is always the fact that the lovely Asia Argento will be in the flick! :D

And that's that.
Actually, I see about two movies in theaters a year at most on my own free will. I don't have much interest in movies apart from discussing them, seeing what people like, don't like, all that. So I can be the negative fellow here because frankly, I don't give a gosh darn. If land of the dead is absolutely terrible it won't matter. So yes, I'm like, perpetually negetive man. The good news is, I systematically piss off every schmoe, so sooner or later you'll have all just blocked me and a ray of sunshine will fall on the horror forums.
One day. . .

C-Des always plays the devil's advocate, but he has a good point. It worries me that Universal is anxious to bump the release date up. I don't know about you guys, but when I think of the Dead trilogy, I don't think "summer extravaganza."

Exactly cereal lover , something reeks with all this studio involvement , but at least they didn't insist he cast Linsey Lohan or something , i'm sure it was discussed .
They could be screwing themselves though , there is more money to be made by waiting for October , they could get the general horror fans looking to catch anything horror , in addtion to the zombie , romero fanatics . Now , they'll have one excellent weekend , and fade out not soon after . I doubt they will care , it's all about the opening weekend now , it's their obsession .
It will still be profitable , if Dawn 04 can make 26 mil opening weekend , there is no reason Land can't match or exceed that total , but it depends what else is out there at the same time , no matter it will make it's money back .
Well , the trailer should make an appearance anytime now . I just can't get too excited when i know another version is out there .

I think it's cool that we can see it earlier but if they're rushing it...It can slip at points of the movie...i doubt it since it's Romero or maybe they know it would turn out well so they decided to boost it up you never know

Loved Night of the living dead (1968), Know practically every line word-for-word to Dawn of the dead (1978), and really enjoyed myself with Day of the dead (1985).
The remake of Night of the living dead (1990) was an early obsession of mine that drove me into a love of zombie films, and fascination with how the world moves on and people react in different stages of the epidemic.
Romero hasn't really done much since Day of the dead (1985), and that's probably because of the harsh criticism of the film. I personally felt that it wasn't a technically sound film, it was fun, but Romero got caught up into the whole 80s fiasco that turned the film into a huge ball of cheese, and overacting. That was something typical of the 80s.
However, it's been two decades, and the man that who was created what I consider the best trilogy in horror films, is making yet ANOTHER zombie film that deals with the same topic, only many years in the future after humans have learned to adapt to their situation and surroundings.
I am happy, the same as some Rainbow Six fan hears Tom Clancy coming out with a new terrorist book. The gore is usually great, the story is always intriguing, and stays with me after the film to think about the situations these people were put in, and what I would have done/not done to stay alive. Many of the great horror films can do this to someone, and the zombie films of this nature have done it to me since I was young boy.
There's not much math or science to it when it comes to being a fan of the director and said genre. And it's not just the zombie genre, it's the Romero zombie genre that focuses on the people, places, things, environment, and atmosphere that the world must deal with. It's inspiring, cynical, and thought-provoking all at the same time while feeding you a horror film that has you grinning ear to ear.
By the way guys...
When did this film first start shooting? I can't remember.

The overacting is what makes it great! Captain Rhodes is the best character in Day.
And that sounded like a mouthful of Greek salad-- whatever that means. ;)

Don't have much interest in movies? Then why waste your time constantly bitching here?

I don't have much interest in movies apart from discussing them, seeing what people like, don't like, all that.
Which makes a lot of sense if you knew I was sort of in the creative field, so I like seeing what exactly everyone likes and why. Oh, and I'm the one that doesn't bitch, remember? I bitch at the bitchings. Though, wait, let me intellectualize that last sentence so I, in turn, come off as some slick intellectual: I question the bitchers as to why they are bitching. See, now I come out all, like, totally intelligent, oh my gawd.
You know if I didn't amuse myself so much I'd never reply to these sorts of things. Anyways, I don't mean to steer another thread off topic to focus is just on me. So although apparently I'm more interesting than this romero guy, you'll have to be patient, because we're talking about land of the dead. ;)
Oh right, I forgot: I also come here because, oddly enough, I like the schmoes.

Oh yeah? Well. . . uh . . . well you know what? You're a poopy-head!
Oh it's on now.
But in all seriousness, the show really does suck. S2 is typical teen soap trash. Too bad.
And back on topic, does anyone know the estimated theater counts of this thing? At least what they're shooting for? Because depending on how this'll be handled, I can see a rather small marketing push (if the target audience is the audience that already knows everything about it). But then they did move it to summer. . . because this really doesn't seem to have the backing of a blockbuster. I know this was just announced, but still.
And just to tie up the loose end, psycho, I didn't mean to be condescending. I didn't even think I was, so if my nature got in a way and all that, I apologize. I was just trying to reply to you in a patronizingly superior manner.

First reports in from the field indicate that the 'Land of the Dead' trailer will be shown in front of xXx: State of the Union on 4/29. Right now the situation is fluid, new data suggests that an online trailer debut will occur the week of 4/29...

S
There are rumored details regarding the contents of the trailer:
We see scenes from each of the previous three movies, intercut as if they were news video footage ala the beginning of 28 Days Later. Black screen seperating each movie. Voiceover about the creative mastermind who brought you Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, and Day of the Dead comes... the screen goes black again...Land of the Dead!
Cut-To:
The actual content of the trailer in regard to new movie footage. There were the obligatory shooting scenes, cars, an explosion as well as shots of John Leguizamo and Dennis Hopper. There wasn't anything as far as dialogue goes, but the respondents (to the survey of the trailer) complained about that, so it's apt to change. Music composed of moody, classical instrumental rock with heavy bass line~

it would be cool to have that sweet narration like they did for Dawn , that guy's voice really set the tone in those trailers . anyway , cool , a trailer coming very soon , the chill factor is increasin ' .
hey , Fox is releasing this thing , why shouldn't it get a wide release , horror is big now , and if the rumors are true , they are confident in this product , no less than 2500 , but i'm thinking a little more , it will get a wide release , no reason it won't .
now about that limited release uncut version , sorry , had to plug it again , just in case some distributor / executive dude is reading this , the fans want the unrated version , the place will sell out quickly if it's shown in the proper venue , Manhattan comes to mind , somewhere downtown . peep will travel great distances to see the director's cut , i'm positive about that .
