I'll pick it up. Weezer have never made a bad Album, and I might be the only one, but I find that they get better with each Album. Though I have not fully listened to Pinkerton yet.

Here's how it will go:

Green < Maladroit < Make Believe < Blue < Pinkerton

:) Oh and fuck Weezer for playing small venues and jipping out people from seeing them on their first tour back. All the scalpers bought the tickets before the fans could get them. Hi, you guys are multiplatinum, and my favorite band and my idols since I was in the 1st grade...can you please play big venus again? One big happy =W= family? THX.

JK- I love em'.

While it's all a matter of opinion, after Pinkerton they've gotten progressively worse. Well, Maladroit was better than Green but it still wasn't good. And judging by the single, this is gonna be garbage,. Matt Sharp is rolling in his grave.

Yes, I'm aware he's not dead.

Expect a leak of this album within the next week. Advance copies were sent out around last week, and an inside source at Geffen says that this sounds like a good week for it to leak.

Also, there's a rumor going around about the band performing on Late Night with Conan O'Brien sometime this week as a surprise guest (Goat Punishment, perhaps?).

Rolling Stone should have Weezer as their cover story in a week or two. If you're ot a suscriber, you should be able to purchase it on 4/22.

Law of Inertia magazine has Weezer on their cover and is on sale right now, thought the article sheds no new light on anything.

Alternative Press has Weezer on the cover of their issue on sale right now,a dn the article is fabulous. It reveals about a million different things about the band, including them suggesting that the album sounds like Green with PInkerton lyrics.

Beverly Hills is currently doing quite a pretty number on the charts right now, and should stay aroun the top of them with plenty of radio airplay by the time the next single arrives (We Are All On Drugs has been called the most likely candidate for next single).

The first listening parties for the new album are taking place as early as this Friday, meaning that a leak seems practically inevitable at this point by the end of this week. I HIGHLY recommend that you go to the listening parties if you are anywhere near them:

Friday April 22nd - 3pm - Rasputin Music - Berkeley
2401 Telegraph Ave - Berkeley CA - 800-350-8700

Tuesday April 26th - 6pm-8pm - Sonic Boom
2209 NW Market St. - Seattle, WA 98107 - 206-297-BOOM

Wednesday April 27th - 7:00pm - Rolling Stones

Friday April 29th - 1pm - Virgin Megastore
360 Newbury Street - Boston MA 02115 - 617-896-0950

Saturday April 30th - 3:00pm - Down In the Valley
8020 Olson Memorial Hwy - Minneapolis, MN. 55427 - 763-544-0033

Saturday April 30th - 1 PM - Rock-A-Billy's
8411 Hall Road - Utica, MI 48317 - 586-731-0188

Wednesday May 4 - 7 PM - Vintage Vinyl
51 Lafayette Rd. - Fords, NJ 08863 - 732-225-7717

Saturday May 7th - 7pm - Spaceboy Music
407 South St. - Philly, PA 19147 - 215-925-3032

You can hear brief, brief clips of three new songs (This is Such a Pity, We Are All On Drugs, and Peace I think) off of Make Believe on www.albumfive.com

To quench your thirst for Weezer material, I suggest you check out www.weezernation.com which has 100+ live bootlegs and every Weezer B-side and Demo in existence (Wanda, Lullaby for Wayne, and Walt Disney are probably the best).

So again, stay tuned to this topic and when it leaks I'll see if I can convince Somguy to host it on his site for any JoBlo Weezer fans to download.

Anyone who wants to talk Weezer or news or whatever, feel free to talk to me online.

I wouldn't ne opposed to them breaking up. They have been on a downward spiral. They've done enough to damage their name, might as well jump off the ship before it sinks completely.

I couldn't disagree further. If the new album is any good, then I hope they stick together.

Also, Rivers updated his MySpace blog, and apparently his post was trying to say something along the lines that the Rolling Stone interviewer portrayed him inaccurately to make the article more interesting and him more of a quirky character.

The first listening party has just ended.

Expect lots of info on what the album sounds like in the next few hours.

EDIT: Here's what I'm hearing from the people who went: The album is instantly likeable, with Beverly Hills being their least favorite of all the tracks. Production-wise, it sounds like new Weezer, but the lyrics are all personal a la Pinkerton.

More to come shortly.

I'm excited for this album, even though I'm not a big fan of the single. I think it's way too simple even for Weezer.....and yet I can't get it out of my head. I know I shouldn't enjoy it, but the damn song is catchy.

And yes, Pinkerton is one of (if not the best) album of the 90's and my personal favourite of Weezers. I really really dug the hard-rock sound of maladroit which was a welcome change from the simple pop melodies of the green album, although Hash Pipe was reason alone to own that album.

I hope this album is gerat, but in a summer filled with Beck, Queen's of the Stone Age, Nine Inch Nails, System of a Down, Audioslave and even The White Stripes, Weezer definately has their work cut out for them....

at least I'm seeing them in Toronto, 3rd times a charm

I think what Lyn is getting at is while Green and maladroit were good they were no follow up againt blue or Pinkerton. While the new Make beleive album is a strong contender and as good as either of those albums this album is what green and maladroit should have been.Of course Lyn may not think that that's just how i see it

By "shit" do you mean "good" as in "the shit" or shit as in "shitty"?

Because I love This Is Such a PIty. The fact that it could be a radio single and a hit and includes "You say I'm a fascist pig" in its lyrics is awesome. Plus the synths really are sweet.

Ehh..I've given the diskette two spins so far and here are my thoughts:

It's not a return to form. In fact, I don't think Weezer will ever be returning to form. I used to love the band. Pinkerton and the Blue album probably round out my top 20 list, but this is a far way removed from anything on either of those. The two tolerable songs on the album, The Damage In Your Heart and Pardon Me, sound like they could be Pinkerton B-sides, but even that doesn't excite me. The fact of the matter is, Weezer has become a gimmick. Their songs, which were once unpredictable and spontaneous, have become so formulaic you could teach them in a pre-Biology class. Rivers once quasi-poetic/self-aware hipster doofus sincerity has now become just doofus. The songs are more "emotional", sure, but they're still god-awfully written. Just because they're more personal doesn't mean they're better. I can tell you a lot of 3rd grades that write personal poetry, but that doesn't mean it's good. Take for example:

"All I have to do is swing and I'm a hero, but I'm a zero." - Perfect Situation

"Then you show up late for school because you think you're really cool when you're...on drugs." - We Are All on Drugs

ALL of My Best Friend.

Sure, Rivers was never Leonard Cohen, but he's never been this bad, either. I've officially given up hope on this band ever being good again. Rivers needs to get on bended knee and beg Matt Sharp to come back.

3/10, and that's generous at this point.

Yeah but Weezer had a way to make simple things word:

"I'm a lot like you, so please. Hello, I'm here. I'm waiting."

On Make Belive they try to do this and I don't really think it works that much.

"You think I'm a facist pig!"

Song writing was definitely a strong point, just because they're unconventional about it doesn't mean it's weak. This new stuff however is just trash.

Pitchfork's reviews are mostly shit, everyone knows that.

However, their news and interviews are pretty good.

My favorite Pitchfork review has to be the review of The Flaming Lips' Zaireeka, where the reviewer gives it a 0 and admits he never even listened to the album.

It's got one of those new flimsy cardboard covers, it's not plastic. The cover is pretty as you guys have seen. The booklett has all the lyrics and is pretty simple, with some drawings circling themselves around the lyrics.

There is a quote in the box at the end that I believe is something buddhist maybe? Rivers has been studying and meditating (has budhist writing on his guitar, and on a pic in hte booklet you can see a blanket in the studio with the same letters on it) and I'm thinking the little poem type thing is something to do with it.

Like the set up.

Back of the CD is almost too plain. Some more stuff would have helped. I HATE HATE HATE the "FBI Anti-Piracy" warning on the back. It's ugly and takes away from the package.

Thumbs up.

Oh by the way, the mysterious message I speak of, I just typed up for viewing pleasure:

"This rough magic
I here abjure, and,
when I have required
Some heavenly music,
which even now I do,
To work mine end upon
their senes that
This airty charm is for
I'll break my staff,
Bury it certain fathoms
in the earth,
And deeper than did
every plummet sound
I'll drown my book."

Perfect Situation is one of, if not the best song Rivers has ever written.

First chorus=Oh oh! Organ is almost absent.
Second chorus=ORGAN GIVES ME CHILLS.

The organ becomes so awesome and apparent in the second chorus haha.

"What's the deal with my brain...why am I so obviously insane...

All I have to do is swing and I'm a hero...but I'm a zero."

Hell...it's not only one of the best songs River's has ever written, but one of the greatest of all-time!

I'm very, very uninmpressed by this record. And I loved the first 4 albums, though Maladroit is really uneven. Still, even the best tracks on Maladroit are vastly superior to anything on this one.

I'm very underwhelmed by Make Believe right now. I think it's bad when my favorite song on the album is Beverly Hills. Yep... that's pretty disapointing.

Although, Perfect Situation has some potential.

Um.

Um, damn I surprised to see so many negative replies to this album.

I actually think its one of their best! I love "This is such a pity" I play it constantly! Its got a sad tone to it thats just moving.

I love "Freak Me Out" and I refuse to believe that the song is about a spider like Cuomo says, its obviously about a girl whos too much for him and she freaks him out...

Beverly Hills of course is the catchy pop song of the album made to call attention of course much like "Hash Pipe" was for The Green Album. A punchy song.

Its a bit sadder and less "shinny happy people" then for example the Green Album wich was just over flowing with positivism. This ones like Cuomo is saying sorry for being such a prick all the time, if you notice in a lot of the songs hes apologizing "im sorry for this" "everyone is my friend" "sorry I got so mad" stuff like that.

But man Im really digging this album, Ive been playing it non stop since I first bought it!

I've lived with this for some time now, and it is their worst record. I've listened to Pinkerton, so I can make this comment.
