Witht eh great films that are TCM '03, DAWN '04 and Amityville '05 and with the new remake of House of Wax upon us, what do you think the next remakes wil be?

My personal pics would be:

I Saw What You Did- Creepy little William Castle film that would be the perfect project for Dark Castle in a couple of years. The location and plot are both creepy.

Demons- It's eerie setting, gallons of blood, and kick ass demon creature effects would do quite well as a remake, as long as all they do is update the plot and characters.

Shock- I liked this rarely seen Italian horror flick, but it was lacking true terror. With the recent string of creepy little kids in haunted house movies, this would fit right in.

Deep Red- I love Argento's original film, yet no one in America seems to know what it is. The film is flawless and all a remake would do is give more attention to this wonderful film.

A remake of I Saw What You Did is in the works (or at least it was in the works).

I see The Omen being refurbished in the coming years. I'm surprised that it hasn't been already.

I'm betting THE HOWLING will pop up soon (if there aren't plans already).

Eternal damnation and woe to those who would even consider it, but then again Hollywood is EVIL!

Remakes! Remakes!

This subject is really played out and tiresome~imho.

Remakes will continue as long as the sheep flock to see'm and the gluttonous, talentless, clueless, cigar chomping fat cats keep making a tidy profit at the box office...

The fat cats probably have less respect for the horror genre and the original films they purchase the rights to!. Or for that matter the artistic integrity or content of the directors original vision.

Yep!

Always the dollars...

It always comes down to the fucking dollars...

Love that Joe Pesci! ;)

the howling would be a cool remake if they would stay away from cgi transformations

if they remade demons i doubt anyone would have the balls to make it as bloody as it was

other good remake possibilities of decent flicks would include funhouse or zombie

at some point i could see them remaking rosemary's baby or the changeling

Oh heaven help us. There are very few horror movies that aren't only perfect horror movies but perfect any movie.

I have to agree with you one hundred and ten percent. I for one have stopped going to the remakes. I can't stand to see the unoriginallity of it all. Wait for something that hasn't been done thats what I say.

This thing goes in cycles. It always has. Remakes are as old as film itself. You know how many times "Dracula" has been remade? A lot.

Remakes will continue in this cycle until someone has a hit with a new take on the genre. Just like Halloween and Friday the 13th started the slasher trend, some new movie will start the (whatever) trend. Then we won't see remakes. We'll see copycats.

I'm suprised Rosemary's Baby hasn't been remade yet.

I kinda was, there's this Heather Gramm movie called "Blessed" which for intents is basicly a remake/ripoff of Rosemary's Baby, even the cover art is basicly the same.

As for the next remake, I'd like to see the old Boris Karloff movies the Bodysnatcher and The Black Room get remade.

I actually really want a Prom Night remake. I love the concept and the movie was pretty good, but I think they could do a lot better.

Personally, I think that if all you're going to do is make exactly the same movie and "update" it, then there's no point in doing it. I'm not a fan of remakes anyway, but I have a lot more time for the ones that take the basic idea of the original and spin it in a new direction. Take Vanilla Sky for example (not a horror movie, I know, but the point still stands) - it has to be the single most pointless remake in history. All they did was take Abre Los Ojos and reshoot it shot for shot, adding in occasional differences that in reality didn't amount to anything significant.

I actually read in this weeks Entertainment Weekly that the writer of The Grudge is going to write the screenplay for the Prom Night remake. He said it's really different from the original and doesn't really have the same plot. I can see it now: It will open the same, with Robin getting killed, but the deaths on Prom Night will be commited by the ghost of Robin. Robin the the equivalent of the little dead ghost girl. That idea could actually be interesting, although I like the original's revenge of the saddened family member thing a little better. Better yet, how about Kim being the killer. That would be unexpected. I mean, do we ever even see her that much at the prom?

I know they probably couldn't make Demons as bloody as it was. That would get them an NC-17, but I belive the original never had this problem because it was left unrated. I haven't seen an unrated movie in theaters, ever! It couldn't make them loose money though. Then all the little teeny boppers could come in and it woudn't be illegal. I think it would make them more money. R and NC-17 ratings are very restricting for most buisness. Horror rfilms should be left unrated so that anyone can enter.

I could definatly see remakes of all horror in the future. I think there will be a Friday the 13th one in the near future. It could be O.K. If they added more depth to the characters, more blood, suspense, and creepy atmosphere. They would have to keep the rain though.

Someone mentioned Rosemary's Baby...there were plans at one point to remake it for television. I don't know if it's still happening, though.

I'm not a fan of remakes and the only remake I've seen of a horror movie is The Ring (which I thought was okay, not great but not that crappy either). If they absolutely need to do remakes, they should take the more obscure films instead of the classics or cult favorites.

For example, I can totally imagine a remake of "When a Stranger Calls." and/or "Fright." Both aren't totally horror, more of a crime/thriller, and they can even slap the PG-13 label on it (I know, sacreliege).

What I want to see in a Prom Night remake; Since this is basically a character-driven horror movie, make the characters more interesting (In the first movie, one or two were enjoyable, the rest were pretty boring), with better characters, the ending would seem even more powerful. I want the killer to be the same, however I would like there to be one of those endings to make you think "Maybe there were two killers?".

It essentially was with 1999's THE ASTRONAUT'S WIFE.
