For me, it was Bush.
The first song of their's I had heard was Letting The Cables Sleep off of The Science of Things. And I fell in love with it. This was around late 1999, early 2000. I could not stop listenin to this song. This was also the around the time of Napster. So I downloaded every single one of their songs. Each album, even though they were all great, had at least 3 stand out tracks, that I could listen to over and over again. I tried to download each song off of their albums, and couldn't. So when I had enough money, I went and bought all of their Albums they had out at the time. Bush was also the band that led me into some great music, from other bands. I've been obsessed with many artists/bands since(Elliott Smith, Mazzy Star, Interpol, Morrissey, The Cure, Radiohead) But Bush was the first one for me to really go crazy with. I swear, there was a full year where all I listened to was them. And I still love their music, even if their last album was not that great. Every once in a while, I pop in my mix of them.

I admit that it was Poison. I was a 12 year-old girl at the time so doesn't that give me a good excuse? :crosses fingers:

Bleh, it was Korn
1997 or 98 my brother made me listen to "Twist" and I loved it. Then I heard Got The Life and loved that, then Freak On A Leash. Then in 99, I bought Issues. Followed that with buying Follow The Leader, then Life Is Peachy, then the debut, then their home video, shirts, posters and the like. Now all that stuff is in someone else's house. I can still tolerate some of the stuff off of the debut, but nowadays I pretty much hate this band.

Blink 182, I listened to all of their old stuff, then progressed to the newer stuff. Also the same with Green Day.

I think it was Blink 182 for me. I loved them so much back in the day. I was a fountain of Blink knowledge, memoribilia, and such. I think I creamed myself when I saw them in concert.
Well, those days are over. I still like them, but I'm not close to being as obsessed as I was. Zeppelin holds that title now.

Green Day. I was 11. I eventually grew out of it. That's not meant to be a shot at Green Day fans, but...well, it might be.

I had dabbled a little with a few bands beforehand, but my first TRUE obssesion was with Ben Folds. I just randoly downloaded the song "Army" and was hooked by the opening lyrics:
"Well I thought about the army and my Dad said, 'Son you're fucking high...'"
5 years later, he is still my absolute favorite artist ever.Lucky for me his new album, Songs For Silverman is on the horizon.

Alice Cooper
I found my brother's "Billion Dollar Babies" album when I was in the 6th grade around 80-81 and I used to play the shit out of it. The first track, "Hello, Hooray!" always skipped which bugged me. That was when I learned I could work out small skips by placing a nickel on top of the needle.

Never said I was proud of it, and I was like, 12 at the time, to be fair.
First legitimate band/artist I was obsessed with: REM
After that: Barenaked Ladies
Then: Zeppelin, the Who, the Beatles, Pink Floyd
Now: Dead Kennedys and Joy Division
Yeah, I have an obsessive, addictive personality. Your point?

11 years ago, when I was in the first grade and only 5 years old my brother Brian visited me in school for my birthday with a brown paper bag full of presents.
I opened it and saw 2 Grant Hill basketballs cards and was completely overjoyed and deeper in the bag I found "Weezer- Weezer (1994)" which is better known now as the Blue Album.
Being little, I only liked "Buddy Holly", but my young mind took that CD home and listened to it religiously. I kept on until 1996 when my brother Matt was listening to Pinkerton in his room and he had told me he just got it. Eager to keep on the Weezer uptake, I rushed out and got it. It was instantly my favorite CD ever and still is.
Today Weezer is still my favorite band. I'm 16, and in 10th grade but my love for them is still as strong as it was the first minute I listened to them. My songlist is over 500 songs, and with the new release of "Make Believe", Weezer has come roaring back into my life, as if they had ever been forgotten. My first concert was 7/24/02 at Jones Beach where I saw Weezer and it became the best night of my life. Listening to "Only In Dreams" live was like an out of body experience. I look forward to May 12th. Weezer again, 3 years later. The love still the same, the excitment bigger than ever.
