I'm surprised this movie isn't mentioned more. Thought it was pretty good and, upon looking it up, saw that a lot of people consider it superior to the original. It's the sequel directly after Dracula, and there has been mention of hinted lesbianism (is that even a word??) I didnt see it, besides there being a female victim or so...it seems every universal classic has been freudianed to death (look, another made up word!) The acting is perfectly passable and the stories easy to follow. Anyone else seen it?

Yeah it was good. I like the original more though. The only thing that has to do with anything lesbian(?) is that Draculas daughter bites another girl. Way back when this film was made that was a big deal. I enjoyed Daughter more than Son of Dracula.

Although I have Son of Dracula in the legacy set, still haven't watched it. Was going through the Frankensteins first. I have read in film studies now of days that some still consider lesbianism hinted. Again, they overthink things too much I think. I even read one time an analyist comparing the mouth of the great white Jaws to a gaping, vaginal hole and how this threatened men

The ending to Draculas Daughter was kind of dumb I thought.
I have to give Universal praise on these legacy sets. I really enjoyed the ones I got. Frankenstein was my fave set followed by Dracula then the Wolfman. I havent finished the Creature set yet, but so far so good.

Yes, the ending did seem a bit 'easy'. I wouldn't have thought they would have worked as well as it did, and her personality switched pretty fast. Still, it was good and I wasn't dissapointed.
I agree with you on these Universal sets - I can't wait to watch more and then bring them up for discussion. I have one more of the Frankenstein's but am saving that for when I finish the Dracula and Wolf Man sets, since it features them all together. Haven't even touched the Mummy, Creature, or Invisible Man yet :(

What makes this one for me, is Gloria Holden as the Countess. One of my favorite vampire films of the '30's.

I definitely loved it. Gloria Holden was simultaneously sympathetic , aristocratic, scary and conflicted.
And as far as the lesbianism goes, I do see it, and it's very very subtle, and it works just fine if you want it to. I personally think it broke ground for the later Hammer efforts like Lust for a Vampire and the Vampire Lovers.
