What does everyone think of this classic? Overrated? Worth every praise? Outdated? A movie that will never lose it's appeal?

Just finished watching the commentary for it by Rudy Behlmer. If you have any interest in the film, you should listen to it. Very informative, from the opening intro/music, to the book, plays, actors, scene - by - scene details, and ending. The only gripe I could have about it is he sounded a bit like a radio host, or one of those instructional children documentary narrators. But not every commentaries full of humor, I guess, which isn't a bad thing.
