I'm a big fan of the kan-kan but this tepid and uninspired first single is hopefully not a sign of things to come. Kanye's wordplay is starting to get on my nerves, and although the beat is quite good as usual (it riffs on Shirley Bassey's "Diamonds are Forever") maybe it's just a case of too much, too soon. Please Kanye, don't head toward Hootyville so soon.

Tepid and uninspired? I could possibly understand why you'd say uninspired, but TEPID? Are you kidding me? This is fucking hot.

The fast tempo, amazing rhymes and slick as hell production make this one of the better songs of the year. I suggest you relsten to the song a few times to make sure you catch all the lyrics, they're genius.

Fun Fact: The harpsicord in the song is being played by indie man Jon Brion, showing just how much West is collaborating with all sorts of people for this album.

July 12th it comes out, and it should be good if this single is an indication of what's to come.

I've listened to it several times, it's just not that good. It sounds like a retread, which it basically is. Kanye still manages to work in a few great lines, my favorite being:

Take your diamonds and throw 'em up like you're bulemic/
Ya, the beat is cold but the flow is anemic.

Unfortunately Kanye, I couldn't agree more. Maybe I was hoping for a little more growth from Mr. West but this sounds like a Dropout B-Side. For a man of such obvious talent (it's still better than 90% of commercial rap), I'm hoping that Late Registration isn't just a quick attempt to cash in on the last album's success.

I can understand tepid perfectly. Just because it has a fast beat doesn't mean it can't be tepid. This song is just like every other Kanye song. The only good thing is the beat and backing vocals. Kanye is not a good rapper. He is not a good writer. He is not good at all. He added nothing new to rap, those claims of him re-inventing rap are bullshit. This is just pure, typical bullshit.

Hm. It's pretty good, he's definitly kept his flow pretty similar to how he used to be on THE COLLEGE DROPOUT. The verses are really really good. The lyrics in the verses are just awesome and the beat during the verses is really awesome, especially the harshipcord kinda thing playing during the second verse. Unfortuneately the chorus is really terrible. It's tedious and pretty painful to listen to. The chorus pretty much ruins this song for me. The verses are SO good, it's kinda unfortunate that the chrous brings it down so much for me.

But:
good lyrics,
good verses,
good beat,
bad chorus. (FOREVA? FOREVA FOREVA?)

I got tired of this guy ages ago. His ego just gets bigger and bigger. his production on Jay Z's "Blueprint" is brilliant but everything he does now just sounds the same as the last song he did.

Don't rule him out before his album comes out. There's going to be a varying of tracks on the album, and from the buzz I've been hearing, it should be interesting. Kanye's very self-conscious and I'm hoping he'll address his ridiculous ego ont his album.
