I know there are a few fans on the board, but I thought I would share this with everyone since he is a very talented young musician. I was completely unaware that he was releasing this until a few days ago. I already found a leak of the album and it's really amazing.

I never thought a ballad about a serial killer/rapist in a clown costume would be so beautiful.

Yeah, this finally grew on me when I gave it a good listen.

It's damn beautiful, and a nice happy album. I need to listen to it further, but this could be even better than Seven Swans.

And I agree, Heart Collector, the song about John Wayne Gacy Jr. is pretty beautiful, given it's subject matter and lyrics.

I just got Seven Swans and Greetings from Michigan from a friend, and I'm digging them so far. The guy has a beautiful voice, and the instrumentation is always interesting...I'll pick up "Illinois" for sure.

If I were him, I might (might!) work on shortening the song titles. Just a thought.

*shameless bump*

Just wanted to remind everyone that this will be out in a couple of weeks, and post the cover art...

It keeps getting better with each listen and it's easily right behind Architecture in Helsinki's album as the best of the year. Where will you be on July 5th?

Sufjan hopes you will be at your local record store picking up his wonderful gem!

If any of you guys ever have the opportunity to see him live, go for it.

I saw him last night (front row...ka-ching!) and he puts on a HELL of a show. First off, he slipped in unannounced to play drums for the opening act, and then his entire band (after no delay between openers and him) ran out in matching Illinois pep uniforms and danced around for a while before playing their set.

In between songs they did cheers. Regular, high-school cheers. Sufjan could barely keep a straight face. But all the silliness of the cheers took a backseat to the beauty of their set. Every song was fantastic, and even his wispy, almost creepy rendition of The National Anthem in the encore had me locked in a trance.

This guy is a great showman, and undeniably without ego.
