Has anybody seen this movie starring Matt Dillon, its about a group of junkies who rob drug stores in order to support their habit. I thought it was a great movie and should certainly get more recognition than it has now.

I think this is a great movie and always bring it up whenever someone talks about how powerful a portrayal REQUIEM FOR A DREAM was.

This not only has Dillon, but hottie Kelly Lynch and a very young Heather Graham. James LeGros is someone I can never stand, but he was made for this role, and Max Perlich always plays a junkie, so he was cool (not really, but well played). Even William H. Burroghs shows up in a great role.

Drugstore Cowboy is definately ace in my book. There are so many good moments to this film: fucking with the cops, hats on beds, all of Dillon's monologues and sermons --- Yeah, you are dead on about this being underrated. There is really just so much to this film that IMO it surpasses modern "heroin-message" movies like Trainspotting and Requiem. Dillon even shot himself up during the movie using water, so he says. :o

This was early Gus Van Sant when IMO he had more humor in his movies, well - that is to say he didn't treat his topic so heavy. While the movie gets across a pretty unusual, but important message, at the end, I like how it doesn't beat it into you and keeps things moving in a way as to not be preachy.

Yeah, this is exactly your point. I wouldn't even care if anyone liked it or not as much as I just think it's something that everyone should see for many reasons we keep listing.

Do you think it's the title or something? I think it's appealing, but maybe other people picture like a pharmacist with a 10 gallon hat in the old west or something. I dunno. My group of friends, and some family who've seen it all think it rocks. The movie has great cult appeal simply because of the names involved. It's a pretty odd mix when you step back and look at it. This is by far the type of work that makes Van Sant note worthy.

Bummer.

I haven't seen it yet, but I've read a little about it on Netflix, and its interested me a little bit. I'll probably be renting it here soon.

It's important that you do. Otherwise you'll never know the significance of hats on beds, and it something that could come up one day.

It's been over 10 years since I've seen it, but I really liked it. I think it's still Van Sant's best movie.

My memory of the movie is hazy, but I recall giving it 8/10.
