April 27: New company cooks up Mario Bava, HOUSE remakes

Producer Jeff Ritchie, whose creepy indie feature COOKERS is gearing up
for release soon (see previous item here), has announced that he has
formed Harbinger Pictures with REEKER producer Don Dunn and David Bond,
founder of the Exofest International Film Festival. "The goal of the
Harbinger group is to recapture the spirit of the American horror
film," according to a press release. "For much too long, the horror
film been devoid of passion and soul. Harbinger, through its
productions, wishes to reconnect with the genre’s glorious past and
expand that ideal into a new form for the future. Harbinger’s main
objective is to recreate the atmosphere and wonder of the classic
horror film."

The company has announced a slate of three features for production in
2005, the first being a co-production with Richard Mann’s RMG
Productions on the remake of THE HOUSE OF SORORITY ROW that we first
reported on here. Ritchie himself is now scripting the redux, which he
promises "will be a complete re-imagining of the story," and will film
in the South this summer/early fall. Next up is THE FORT KENT MASSACRE,
described as "a twist on the Indian legend of shapeshifting [which]
recounts the tragic events that befell a small northern town after the
First World War. The project will be a Canadian co-production and will
be filmed in Vancouver and Alberta during the winter." Finally,
Harbinger and Mann will reteam for a remake of a Mario Bava chiller,
the title of which has yet to be announced. Ritchie is also already
planning Harbinger’s 2006 slate, which will include a movie about the
Orm legend and a remake of a classic Asian chiller. —Michael Gingold

If I didn't hate the "rolling eyes" smiley, I would be posting a bunch of them right now.

we should just make a thread titled "What Films Were Announced To Be Remade Today?" and I guarantee it gets tons of replies in the next week alone.
