JUNE 24TH? Where the hell have I been? Jesus Christ!
BTW, im just WAITING for all the youngsters to say, in regards to the giant truck they seem to drive through town, "Man, this guy ripped off Dawn of the Dead!"
Explaining THAT logic to them will just be fun.

Nice trailer, especially that line from hopper at the end! Nice stuff. Man, if this movie is actually good-good, it'll finally raise mainstream's expectations of what to expect from a zombie movie so they won't tolerate shit like re2. Because this is a summer release after all, competition or not, if it has great word of mouth, it'll get enough bucks.
Should be an interesting time.

For awhile I thought this was going to be the first ROmero zombie film without a strong black lead, but as we're getting to see, that's wrong!

It was just music used to target what the studio believes this movie's target audience is - teens. And it will attract teens. Nothing wrong with that.

Romero-ites KNOW it wont be like the remake, so we'll be seeing it because of that. These teeny boppers will hear the rock music and flock to the damn theaters.

Romero is the fkn MASTER! I can't wait for this movie. I have all faith in this being just like his earlier Dead flicks, with organs gettin ripped out, etc. Who's doing the special effects? is it Tom Savini? or Rick Rubin?

The FX are being handled by none other than Greg Nicotero, one of the guys who worked w/ Savini on Day of the Dead. He even appeared in the film as one of the soldiers.

No, it isn't the first time. Peter said something like "there's gonna be a thousand zombies in here....." when the bikers were raiding in Dawn of The Dead '78.

I enjoyed the trailer a lot. I admit I was a little turned off that they used one of the Manson scores from RESIDENT EVIL. Of course, I'm one of the 17 people who actually loved RE so I am a little bias. I love a good zombie flick and I will definitely check this out at the theatre.

Also good to see a familiar doing the special effects. I really do love Greg Nicotero almost as much as I love Savini's. I'm sure Nicotero has done an outstanding job and I'm truly eager to see. Woot! Summer can't come soon enough!

Peter also mentioned that his grandpa was a voodoo priest which would explain why he refered to the undead as zombies.

I looooove how you hear "They're coming to get you Barbra...." while the screen is black....classic...as for the actual clips of Land of the Dead...It looked very Resident Evilish...BUT....Romero did make the "zombie" popular and RE was based off a game that ripped his work off....so its kinda hand in hand...was the preview kick ass...yes....but mainly for the past clips of the trilogy....I need to see more on Land

Was it just the "sound effects" added for the purpose of the trailer.... or do these zombies "scream" like they do in the DOTD remake?
Preferably, I like the zombies that sigh and moan.
But seeing as these zombies are supposedly "more advanced" than the past ones as they have apparently "evolved" according to Romero, does this also include shrieking?

As for Romero "pissing" on Resident Evil, he did an interview awhile back and said that he liked the movie quite a bit actually, only negative thing he said was that there "wasn't enough gore":D .

Then i'm def a modern day man :) .
Can i say something here , after watching that trailer i did something that will takes weeks to clean properly .
Okay , random thought time .
Wowzer , just when you think maybe the man has lost his touch , he throws this at us . I love how they sort of paid homage to the Dawn 78 trailer and mentioned the other films in the dead trilogy . Remember that great Dawn trailer intro , in 1968 , G Romero ..... . It's not exactly the same , but the spirit behind it is , just need that cheesy voiceover ( we get it at the end of the clip , don't know if it's the same guy , sure sounds it ) . Now , they should go with an actual video montage of all 3 previous films in the longer trailer , because in this one , unless i missed something , only showed Night 68 , and had titles for Dawn and Day , in additon to that cheesy voice i mentioned , would work great as a contrast to the modern incarnation of this dead installment .
Okay , same guys must have did the sound in the trailer and the titling , it reminds me of Dawn 04 . The crackling fire sound as the titles disintegrate . I like it , and not complaining , just an observation . After all it is Universal , same company that produced Dawn 04 , so it only makes sense some of the same talent will be used . I have no prob with that , that film was great .
The cinematography is appropriately dark and disturbing , as is the color scheme . This really does look like the end of the world . I thought it would look too polished , and in some ways it does , some of the look can be seen in other modern horror films produced by big studios . But , there is no doubt Romero's directorial eye is all over this thing , even if he had a bit less say about the crew he would work with with this film , he seems to have carefully crafted a look that will convey the particular mood his script and vision required .
The zombies , woah , there a ton of these stumblebums , but , somehow , im thinking i was right about the intelligence thing , they should become dumber as they deteriorated , and im not sure im accepting this coordinated attack plotline . Could be wrong , but i love the look of them , i like the ferocity on display , but i don't like the intelligence angle . They seem to be using weapons in this thing , and surprise , it looks like some will move faster than normal , at least for a Romero zombie . And what was that hanging from the ceiling , a homage to Dawn 04 . No matter these things look fearsome and unrelenting , they just better not forget to take some bites out of people when they get the chance . Now don't get mad , but they do kind of remind me of the ones in Re 2 , the way they move , the way they attack , even the way they look with those vacant eyes . Again , its not a bad thing because i liked the ones in that one , loved em .
Music for trailer , sounds straight out of RE 1 , during the invasion of the mansion and the train sequence , but that's not Romero's fault , i doubt he had too much say with regards to the music of choice for the trailer . If he did , i dont get it , i want something more atmospheric , not head banging . But Uni is going for the younger crowd , the ipod crowd , even though they dont have too , its the reality , it will make money mainly in the 17 - 25 yo range , its target demographic
A brief glimpse of the acting , im relieved that it looks as if Hopper is somewhat restrained in this , although that little crack he makes towards the end of the clip is a bit cheesy , he looks like he wont be a distraction . The other guy who said something , the one with the long hair , it's soap opera territory , but freak it , shouldnt be too much of a prob , its a b movie after all .
Now , final thoughts , for now , the film does look terrific , no doubt about that , but its obvious there are some modern influences with regards to some recent popular zombie films . Looks like he combined RE 1 , 2 , Dawn 04, SOTD and a host of late 70's early 80's zombie movie homages , with a good helping of the zombie master's touch . And that's great as far as im concerned , it looks like someone has finally put them all together , after all this time , and made a brutal as hell , exciting , suspenseful , tense , unsettling , and overall thrilling zombie / action ? movie .
I can now see why this is being released during the summer , even if i still wish it was in October , this is going to be one of the best of the Summer . Thought Batman would overshadow it ( it will at the box office ) , but damn if im more excited about this one now , maybe .
Wow , that can sum it up , now about that unrated cut :) .

While the idea of a new Romero zombie flick being only a few short months from being released has me giddy, I'm probably in the minority here when I say that the trailer had me thinking "eh". It just didn't do anything for me. That said, it is just a trailer and the actual finished product, hopefully, will blow us all away. I actually dug the "Night" montage and the sound clips and white scrawl better than the actual Land footage that was shown. Also, Dennis Hopper may have been the wrong choice for this. While some thought his line at the end of the spot was great, I found it fucking cheesy and reminiscent (sp) of those Reebok/Nike/whateverfuckingshoecompany ads he did a number of years ago as the psychotic ref and fan.

Its funny, but im looking more forward to this movie then War of the Worlds or Batman simply becuase i know(on purpose) so little about what happens in the movie. This is my "surpise" of the summer.
..or rather, i know enough to know its going to rock, and am content to leave it at that without further spoilering.

I agree about the Hopper line , its too reminiscent of the cheesy one liners you'll find in almost every other studio produced horror films , not verbatim of course , but one of those silly throwaway lines that is used to break the tension for the mainstream . It's very minor , because the whole thing is inherently silly , but i get the feeling it was there because it would sound good in the trailer .
I'm not getting too worked up about one line in a film , just as long as Leggs Diamond doesnt go into his pest routine , that's the one casting choice i still don't understand , must have been a money issue , but i have a feeling i'll be longing for " Cj " to show up , slap his ass around , and take control of the situation .
Here's something , how would Ving Rhames and " CJ " look as the two leads of Land , i could easily have seen them tear it up something fierce in this . Somehow Legs and Asia just don't scream mercenary like they should , but Baker seems excellent .
That was just a random thought .
Hey , i read that the trailer originally did have clips of all three films in the beginning , but was edited because of some copyright issue , so only clips from Night are shown , can anyone confirm this ? A couple of days ago i couldn't get it too work , im thinking they took it down temporarily to facilitate this edit . What the hey is that , come on man , what's that then . I don't know , i didn't see the trailer when it was first released .

YeaH, when I originally heard the tailer was online, I rushed to Yahoo movies and couldn't get their links to work for the life of me. You're probably right - they were editing out the Dawn and Day clips b/c the only trailer I have seen only featured Night (which is a vastly superior movie IMHO).

I was checking out the upcoming movie forum about this trailer, and after reading one guy's thought that it looked no different than the new dawn . . . I realized yeah, this isn't any different looking than dawn. In fact, I liked dawn's trailer more (the remake's). This looks good, and since I know who's behind it, well. . .it looks double-good, but I think they're making a mistake by trying to say "This is the one that started it all! This is the one that will revolutionize it all!. . .and check it out cause, you know, it looks a lot like Dawn!"
Pitch it as something different, not a summer blockbuster rip-off of the new Dawn. Mainstream might fall for it and all, in which case, I guess the trailer did its job. But there's a good chance folks who have no idea of the movie's history will shrug it off.
I don't know. There's a lot of interesting things to think about after the heavy-metal, teenage-demographic trailer, and the new summer release date. Not that I'm thinking this movie will be mindless stuff, interesting as in, what is their marketing strategy and all.

Nah, a good zombie movie will appeal to most anyone.
Look at the success 28 Days Later and the new Dawn had. This will do at least as good. Mainstreamers will think its a sequel to the new "dawn" and old-timers will get what it really is. Everyone wins!
