From Fangoria/Bloody-Disgusting-

We can confirm the reports by Fangoria that Lions Gate Films has acquired Raw Nerve and Tim Sullivan's remake to the classic Herschell Gordon Lewis flick 2001 Maniacs for US distribution. Although the following portions hasn't been confirmed yet, Fangoria reports that 2001, "will likely go straight to video, but midnight shows and festival play appear likely, beginning with July’s Fantasia fest in Montreal." The film follows travelers who take a wrong turn wind up becoming the planned main course for the hungry residents of a strange little town.

Now, this is all good and all, but straight to video :( .... I was thinking this would get the theatrical push, espicially from a company like lions gate. But oh well, can't complain too much, atleast we're going to get to actually see it...

I don't see this as a theatrical release, but like you, I'm glad that it's finally seeing the light of day. I'll be viewing the original soon.

yeah... well, i didn't really see much from it to judge on, but I figured if LG picked it up theyd throw it in theaters somehow, since its Lions Gate...but hey gotta respect them for picking it up for us to see and still being a kickass company.

It seems like a flick that many will compare to HO1C

I saw 2,000 Maniacs last night. It's a fun little movie, but it could use an upgrade. Apart from the gore (which isn't as excessive as I was hoping), it doesn't feel like a genre ride. It's more like a redneck comedy with intermittent dismemberment. I wonder if 2,001 Maniacs will keep the original's twist ending.
