During the nice interview with John Carpenter (read news boards to your left) on the set of the Fog, he shared with us readers that Sci-Fi Channel would be remaking The Thing. This isn't the best news I've heard, but I'm still groovin to it. I would be most impressed if the man himself (Carpenter) took control of the project, but you can't ask for miracles. Can we assume a tv series after this? I hope so.

That sounds like a horrible idea just because the Sci Fi channel is doing it. I'm sure they'll make a shitty movie as usual.

wow, this may be a first (correct me if I'm wrong) but a remake of a remake? I'll pass on that one.

This seems to be pretty stupid. However, if carpenter does get involved it could be worth watching.

Frank Darabont, who is producing The Thing mini series, said that this is going to be a sequel to John Carpenter's film and not a remake.

Here is a quote from an interview with Darabont (http://suicidegirls.com/words/Frank+Darabont/) :
"It's not a remake as much as it is a miniseries sequel to the great John Carpenter movie. It got reported in the trades as a remake but I would not want to remake a movie as good as John Carpenter's. But to do a loving sequel as a miniseries really does appeal to me. Then you're not screwing up somebody's great movie."

I hope their doing it from the Darkhorse comic cuz that was a great sequel, even though it was a comic book.

Well, THE THING is good enough as it is. No need AT ALL to make a remake, and so I say 'fuck that shit'.

I seriously think a lot of BAD horror movies should be remade. That way, the least that would happen is to get something just as bad, but chances are it could be much better.

However, seeing as how it's potentially not a remake but an extension of the original, I don't mind. Not at all. Hey, it could be fun.

This is like the best news I've had all year. I don't care if it's the Sci-Fi channel, I'm just glad someone got off their ass and started doing something about this. This should've happened a long time ago. I'm going to Outback and celebrate. Ciao!
