You seem really stoked on WWII movies. I love 'em too and did you ever see Soldier of Orange? It was a Paul Verhoeven movie made in the late 70's.It's about the Dutch resistance in occupied Holland and I think it is the best film about WWII of all time. It is definitely worth finding in your local video store. And with Mr. Violence as the director you know the carnage factor will be high.

loner... Ive never actually heard of this movie but it sounds interesting. Yeah WW2 movies are my favorite war movies, mainly because its my favorite part of history. It just had everything, a true world war, famous battles, historic leaders and figures. plus i like the board game axis and allies...
P.S. my dad was born on VJ day, victory over Japan, and my mom was born in a japanese concentration camp in china, so that stuff interests me

puck: I've also played Axis & Allies. It's a great game. Kind of like a more detailed version of Risk.

I like the first list, but if you wanna have Private Ryan's greatness lessened a wee bit, then check out THE BRIDGE by Bernhard Wicki you will see that Spielberg DEFINITELY screened this before he began Ryan. (He also had to have seen Paths of Glory, of which the influence is really obvious). He combined the two, added some stars, and made his own masterpiece. NOTE: in NO way am I accusing Spielberg of ripping anything off! He HONORS those old war flicks, if anything. I love Saving Private Ryan- wanna make that clear. Also nobody has mentioned Europa Europa or Stalingrad. What gives?

It isn't really a movie but: A Band of Brothers is incredible. Like one big long saving private ryan. It is my favorite next to Apocolypse Now redux(which completely changes the tone of the film for the better I might add).
TOPE TEN WAR MOVIES (in no particular order):
FORBIDDEN GAMES
HOPE AND GLORY
SCHINDLER'S LIST
APOCALYPSE NOW
THE DEER HUNTER
THE GREAT ESCAPE
THREE KINGS
FULL METAL JACKET
A MIDNIGHT CLEAR
LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL

I'm not a big war film fan, and haven't seen many of the classic war flicks, but I loved three very recent war films: No Man's Land, Black Hawk Down, and We Were Soldiers.
