From IGN:
Tartan Asia Extreme will release the gritty revenge drama on August 23rd in the US, on both DVD and UMD formats. The film garnered critical praise and prizes from six international festivals, including the "Grand Prize of the Jury" in 2004 at Cannes.

The DVD will be presented in anamorphic widescreen. The Korean-language track will be presented in Dolby Digital EX 5.1 Surround Sound or DTS-ES Digital 6.1 Surround Sound (either with English or Spanish subtitles) and the English-language track in Dolby Digital EX 5.1 Surround Sound.

Expect the DVD to feature director and cinematographer commentary, deleted scenes (with optional commentary), and an interview with the director.

The UMD will feature deleted scenes not on the DVD. It will be presented in anamorphic widescreen in Korean with English subtitles.
I am still pissed that I couldn't catch this movie in theatres, due to the distance to the nearest 'arthouse' theatre combined with crappy showtimes. However, I will assume this is worthy of a blind buy.

The region 2 Tartan Release is better. 2 discs, one with the movie and one with all special features. Amazon.co.uk has it for around 26 bucks American.

The movie kicked ass (9/10), but I don't think I'm going to get the DVD just because I don't think I want to watch it over and over again - it's that f*cked up.

I've been hearing people rave about this film for almost a year now and am really looking forward to finally seeing this. Why do they always have to make us wait so fucking long for a film that's been out forever already?

Such is the advantage of making your DVD player Region Free. I always order from Amazon.co.uk when I know something won't be out here for a while, including Oldboy.

No, QT was one of the judges at Cannes and pushed for Oldboy to win the top prize. So QT did indeed love this movie.

Oldboy is one of the coolest movies to come out in quite some time. I imported the Tartan release a few months ago and have shown it to multiple people - all have loved it.

On a side note, the Tartan UK PAL release is actually Region 0. So, if you import it you may not be able to watch it on your NTSC television screen (without the help of a converter of some sort) but it should play without trouble on your PC.

I lent it to a friend at work and it worked fine on his laptop.

So, if you can't wait a couple of months, want the better DVD version, and don't mind movies on your computer... head over to Amazon UK.

Great flick.
