My friend's father is as extreme as Will Ferrell seems to be with sports in this film. Hence, I will rent it.

If you schmoes still love the childishness of "The Big Green," you'll love this. Will Ferrell, for all he's worth, has his moments, but doesn't save the film being so-childish-it-alienates-the-older-viewers-itis.
