has anyone read the book,it it alot like the movie - and is it worth a look?

Yeah, it sticks pretty close to the book from what I remember. But, it's been years since I last read the book, but I think it's pretty faithful to H.G. Well's story. I remember liking the book, so I'd guess it's worth a look.

the ship design is pretty much the same as in the book, and in the book it takes place in england, its a hard book to adapt though because it reads more like a documentary than a story, but the movie did a good job

The only major differences are cultural, going from 19th Century England to 21st Century America...all the major plot points about the aliens are the same.

I liked Ebert's idea that they should've set it back in turn-of-the-century England.

Of course, Ebert has been a dumbass, especially these last few weeks

I agree with this, and think the movie would have been enhanced greatly from being set back to the original time of the book.

..still wasnt anything nearly as bad as what Ebert was spouting, but its not the perfect adaptation i was expecting from my fav film maker.
