Just curious, I have been collecting since 1993. I have about 90 or so Movie Posters. If so whats your fav.? Mine has to be my Episode 1 Teaser, Rarest would be Original WTC Spiderman Banner, and my current fav. would be Sin City (Nancy Poster) or Batman Begins (holding Katie Holmes)

I wouldn't I collect them - I do have a few though:
Troy (won it at a premiere), Unforgiven, The Godfather, Goldfinger, Star Wars (Special Edition), and Spider-man 2.
But I just bought them because they looked cool and thought they would look good on my wall. But I don't go out of my way to buy them as collector's items.

Yea... I've got a couple... about, oh, 700+? Working at a video store REALLY has it's perks. :D
At one point, I was changing "themes" in my room every 2 weeks. Haven't gotten anything new in quite a while tho... fucking cheap store owner selling posters instead of just giving them to me... bastard. I won't pay for something he's SUPPOSED to give away, send back, or destroy.
Mind you, I do have quite a few theatrical posters including... one of my prizes... an original Empire Strikes Back marquee poster from outside my local theater (which sadly isn't there anymore... the theater that is). I begged them for 2 months... 3 times a week for that poster... and yes, that's how many times I saw Empire at the theater. They finally gave in when Empire was leaving, and I was at the last showing there.

Hello! Welcome to the tour of Drew's room!
I bought each of these Kill Bill posters for 4 bucks on an AllPosters.com sale, and I hung them next to each other cause the contrasting colors looked awesome!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/xPhantomsForever/Posters/173_7339.jpg
Above the two Kill Bill posters is this Fight Club poster, one I like very much. I think I got this for 4 dollars too, I like how it lists the 8 rules on the side.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/xPhantomsForever/Posters/173_7340.jpg
My pride and glory! This poster for Blow is 6 FEET WIDE AND 4 FEET HIGH. This thing is fucking awesome. Every time I look at it from my bed I think of millions of dollars lying around my room.

And finally, this one I just got, it hangs on the back of my door and is a 6 foot long beauty of my love Jessica Alba. That's awesome to look at everytime you're sitting in bed haha. Nice image before you go to sleep.

I have a lot more music posters in my room than movie posters, but I still have several movie posters. I've got a pretty big poster for the Godfather, a Reservoir Dogs one that's a little smaller, and then one time I was at my local pawnshop/comic store/etc. and saw that they had a small pile of movie posters that were about 12" x 18". I got Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Dr. Strangelove, Anatomy of a Murder, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and the (original) Manchurian Candidate for $1 each. They look really cool all lined up next to each other.

I've been in the movie theater biz since 1994, and I pretty much take home anything. Well, I used to. The past few years I've slowed down, but I've got in the area of 400 or so theatrical posters a few banners, and a few standees.
I don't know if I could definitively say ONE poster was my favorite of all time, but I have a few that stand out. What makes me really like a poster isn't necessarily the movie it's for. What I really like are cool color schemes. The more vivid and interesting the colors, the more I like it.
Predator 2 theatrical poster - given to me by my then girlfriend. I just love this poster, the colors are just awesome.
Magic in the Water - Never saw this 1995 kid flick, nor did many others, but this beautiful purple poster looks fantastic.
The Peacemaker - Really cool images with a striking blue and yellow color scheme. This poster really stood out at the time.
The Rock - Bold, in your face, and very red.
Boogie Nights - It was retro before retro was over played. It looks like it came from the 70s.
Favorite banners: Bad Boys II and Reign of Fire.
Favorite Standee: Titan AE - it's huge. A giant cylinder that's lit up from the inside and spins around. Took four hours to assemble(!)

I am working on my home theater, and I have a buddy that uses frames that cost about 200.00 I think he is retarded, but they look good. Is there anything wrong with just going with a standard frame like ones you can buy at Target and Suncoast? Any comments and also what do you guys use? Thanks RW
darkface
07-07-2005, 12:49 AM
I bought some decent ones from Michaels. They have a thin frame with a nice glossy plexy glass over them to make then shinny. I think they look good.
They were $20 bucks, but found them later at Wallmart for like $12. yea I wasn't very happy since I bought 5 of them.

Gaborikroenick thanks for starting this thread. Even better that it was started by a fellow hockey fan. :D
If I had a digicam I'd show pics, but a short list will havta do:
Alien two-sheet - my first ever, has names of New York City theaters
Titanic (regular with Leo and Kate's heads) - ever notice that Leo is the only one with his head down and a white light next to him?...
Titanic reprint (Leo and Kate dancing with the ship passing by) - I liked this artwork better, but missed out on an original.
Mulan (ancient Japanese artwork style) - One of my favorites.
Tomb Raider 1 and 2 - I bought these purely for Angelina...lol.
Tomb Raider 2 San Diego comic-con poster - Only 5000 of these made (is that small?) plus I got to see Angelina in-person. :D
Episode 2 advance (the one with Hayden and Natalie's heads facing away from each other and the lines about how Jedis can't love, etc.)
I have a bunch more (30-40 total?), but that's all I'll talk about for now...lol.
On my wall right now:
Mr. and Mrs. Smith advance set of 2 posters
Episode 3
I have three frames hanging above my modest entertainment center. I rotate the posters as I get new ones.

all I have so far are:
Pulp Fiction - (b&w) scene with Jules and Vincent pointing their guns in the same direction (towards my computer :))
Sin City - (red, black and white) Marv
Land of the Dead - (theater poster; framed) they were giving these ones out at the theater when I went to see Land of the Dead on opening night. They are smaller versions of the normal posters you see with "Stay Scared! G.A. Romero" signed on it in white.
Requiem for a Dream - (movie case coverart) same size as the Land of the Dead poster and originally was bought along with the frame that Land of the Dead stole away until I get another frame.
Blair Witch Project - (black and white shot of woods) I got this one for free back in the day.
Thats it for out here, I would go into my room and take stock of what is in there...I know there are two Lord of the Rings posters (Two Towers and Return of the King) The Matrix and some others...but they dont really matter right now anyways.
I have 3 Sin City posters (Nancy,Hartigan,Gail)
3 Sky Captain posters (Joe,Polly,Franky)
2 star wars episode 3 posters (Teaser and Final)
and 1 Charlie and The Chacolate Factory poster.

I bought over 100 at my video store over 3-4 years because since they're not exactly in mint condition, they're 1$ and the money goes to a foundation for sick children.
Every inches of my walls are filled with those posters and I put the best ones on top:
-Terminator 3
-Matrix Reloaded / Revolutions
-Kill Bill Vol 1 / 2
-Buffy the vampire Slayer
-Scary Movie 2 / 3
-Final Destination 2
-Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
-Sin City
-American Pie 2 / Wedding
-Torque (remember: it's the poster that's good, not the movie!)
-Hellboy
-Jaws
-Indiana Jones Trilogy
-The Day after Tomorrow
-Casablanca
-Valentine (see "Torque")
The worst posters (or as I call it, "The Flop Fest"):
-Dreamcatcher
-Malibu's Most Wanted
-Starsky & Hutch
-The Butterfly Effect (bad poster for a good film)
-The In-Laws
-007: Die another Day
-Urban Legends 2
-The Animal
-Bedazzled
-Welcome to Mooseport
-Paycheck
-Against the Ropes

I have not seen SYMPATHY FOR MR. VENGEANCE yet. I got the mini poster for free when I bought OLDBOY on DVD.

Where do you get these things? As a sidenote, does anyone know what theaters do with old posters? I emailed a local theater and all they would say is that they don't give them away or sell them, and I asked an employee at another theater this morning (at the Goblet of Fire first showing), but she said she didn't know. Does anyone know where they go?

I cant speak for every theater but I know for ours we auction them off. We have a bid book that people put their names in and when a poster that they want becomes available (that is after the film leaves the cinema) the highest bidder wins..
But I did just take home...

My theatre keeps them in a back room. Tons. Free to the first employee who wants one, as long as it's no longer hanging somewhere in the theatre. I haven't gone through them all myself, but I did just take home the Goblet of Fire teaser. It's pretty sweet. I can't wait to get more.

I didn't want to start a new thread to ask this. I figured anyone who could answer would probably look in here. I hope.
Where is a good place to buy just some cheap 27 x 40 (or 41) poster frames. Best I've seen online is $20 bucks. Fuck that. Any deals out there?

Do you have a Michaels near you? If so, check the sunday ads because they run really nice 27x40 (and various other sizes) at really good prices, usually around $9.99. The regular price is around $34.99 so whenever I catch them on sale, I pick up at least 5 of them.

I only have about 20 or so official posters. I have tons of the smaller, unofficial ones. I have to really really appreciate the film if I'm going to spend 20 bucks on the poster and then another 30 bucks on the frame.
My favorite official poster would have to be one for Rounders, I got it at a thrift store so it was a great find. My favorite unofficial one is a 40 by 60 inch Fight Club poster.

Just to name a few...
The Punisher poster is an original. Yes, it's lame...but fuck it, it's cool. The Spider-Man poster is an original double-sided 1st print (that says "COMING 2002" and not "3 MAY 2002"). I got lucky with that one. I have a bunch of other prints and posters that I couldn't find URLs to (maybe I'll post actual pics later), along with other posters I'll be hanging up soon to replace the aforementioned posters.
EDIT: Why the fuck did my post jack up this thread?

I haven't bought a poster in ages. There was a period where I spent over a hundred bucks on posters. Just went on a spree. I can blame that on allposters seeing as how they kept having deal after deal. The last poster I got was this badboy:

I have a small collection of posters, like some have said before there are defiante perks of working at a video store. Anyways, my favorites out of my collection is the signed european dogma poster, italian poster for the original crow movie, and ad poster for the animated clerks dvd collection. Some that I am still in search for are Leon(The Professional) 25th Hour and some of the hard to find V for Vendetta, Sin City, and GrindHouse posters
