What better way to celebrate our day of independence, by paying tribute to the 'Independent Films' and the creators that kept the nightmares of our youth alive.

The mavericks that paved the way for all who follow...

Roger Corman, George A. Romero, Wes Craven, Tobe Hooper, John Carpenter, Frank Henenlotter, Dario Argento, Mario Bava, Lucio Fucli, Bob Clarke, Eddie Romero, Joe Zito, Sam Raimi, Larry Fessenden, Curtis Harrington, George Milhalka, Bill Rebane, John'Bud' Cardos, Amando de Ossorio and to all the visionaries that dared to dream of making a feature film!

So dont forget to pay your respects to the men who made a difference and kept us scared all these years...watch your favorite 'Indie' and have a Happy Horrific 4th!!! Stay Scared Schmoes...dont forget the brews, chips, dips and whips...well maybe will scratch the whips. :D ;)

My picks for the 4th:

Night of the Living Dead
Brain Damage
Kingdom of the Spiders
My Bloody Valentine
The Fog
Ruby
Evil Dead
Habit

Just to name a few... :D

I watched Child's play but those choices are perfect for Independence Day.

Nothing wrong with checking out 'Childs Play', besides I wouldnt want to piss of Charles...DONT FUCK with the CHUCK!!!

Another film that relates to the themes of Independence Day and the after effects of war is Bob Clarke's 'Deathdream'. I Highly recommended this lost gem from 1974.

Deathdream is creepy, unsetteling and remains one of the most chilling horror films ever made.

Get the DVD from Blue Underground!

Deathdream (1974)
Blue Underground DVD
Directed By Bob Clark Written By Alan Ormsby

Be careful what you wish for! That age old admonishment is given a chilling visual interpretation in Deathdream (1974), a low-budget, Nixon-era horror film that updates "The Monkey's Paw" to a contemporary setting while incorporating elements from various vampire and walking dead movies.

In the film, now on DVD from Blue Underground, a mother prays for the safe return of her son from a deadly overseas conflict. Instead, an army official arrives at the doorstep bearing the bad news; Andy has been killed in action.

This tragic news is reduced to a cruel joke when Andy turns up on his family's doorstep in the dead of night. But there's something not quite right about the lad. In place of the gregarious, all-American boy who went off to serve his country is an unusually quiet loner, one who prefers brooding alone in his room or walking through the graveyard at night.

And as Andy's behavior becomes increasingly disturbing - he strangles the family dog in the presence of some neighborhood children - even worse things begin to happen in his town, namely unsolved murders where the victims have been drained of blood.

Given the current situation of the unpopular war in iraq, I wouldnt be suprised if 'Deathdream' was slated for a remake...

God, I hope not!!

Eli Roth has been attached to a Deathdream revamp for awhile now. It's still in the early stages of development, though.

Eli Roth? Eli Roth?

Thats just fucking great...the hack who was responsible for that totally waste of good film stock...Cabin Fever!

What a fucking piece of shit that was! CF was extremely painful to sit through, I had taken my son tyler to see it.

Just to give you an idea of what Im talking about: We arrived roughly 20 minutes early to get good seats, when I glanced around the place was starting to fill up, S.R.O.

During the films running time, I could hear the audience actually vocalize thier displeasure with CF, by the 20 to 25 minute mark I tunred around to find half the audienece walked out....

Cant say I blamed them...My son and I should have too.

P.S. Thanks for the BAD NEWS count!
