Personally I can't stand him...i hate his voice, hate the way he acts and hate the way he looks..i remember seeing him on Conan O'Brien about a year ago and Tarantino was the first guest and Chuck Palahniuk was the second guest and when Conan was talking to Chuck, Tarantino would not shut up....he just kept talking and talking..i felt like punching the screen..Palahniuk didn't look to happy either....i'm not a big fan of his films either....i've seen all them except Pulp Fiction, altho i've seen the first half about 3 times, and i've always thought they were average at best and not something i would want to see again....I'll take Michael Mann over this guy anyday

Never met the guy but I like his movies. He comes up with some amazing dialogue too. I'm not much of a hater though.

Tarantino has some of the greatest movies ever under his belt, and take away just the picture, listen to his films, they are full of dialogue that is as electrifying as the movie itself, followed by the music which as far as I am concerned is chosen expertly, because I cannot think of one scene in one of his movies that the music doesn't fit like a glove.....You are certainly allowed your opinion, but I have to tell you, between movie lovers and people that only watch the occasional flick, Tarantino is a name that noone forgets, or dislikes.

I know the show you're talking about Jay. I didn't personally see it, but there was speculation, or it was proven, that Tarantino was drunk during that taping.

To me Taratino is easily on e of the best working directors and/or writers working today. I would place him up there with Scorsese and Speilberg and Fincher. His dialogue is really something to marvel at and hsi film Pulp Fiction is still one of the tightest scripts ever created. No matter how many times I see that film or other by him Im amazed at how great his writing is. And all of his films are a marevl at direction.

In a s ea of nondescript and average directors Im glad hges around

Doesn't this thread belong in the rant forum?

It's a free country and you can hate on anyone you want. The rest of us will continue to no doubt enjoy his brilliant and extremely entertaining films.

Nope. I try to hate those deserving of hate like Uwe Boll and Paul Anderson.

Tarantino has made some amazing movies with fresh dialouge and great characters, and really comes off as a true fan of cinema who "gets" what its all about.

He takes his time, he gets it right, and he delivers the goods. He kicks mucho ass.

No, actually, that was on the Jay Leno show. He wasn't drunk on the Conan O'Brien show jaymckee74 mentioned, or at least he didn't seem to be. He always talks the same way, real hyperactive, rambling, and he always said "alright?" after every sentence. So, yes, I do think he's an annoying talker too. But I still like the guy.

Tarantino is perhaps the most interesting director around today. He's one of the very few directors who, whenever he releases a movie, I feel I just HAVE to see it. Not even Scorsese has the ability to do that to me anymore since he seems to be trying too hard as of lately to win an Oscar, and as a result, his movies turn out less personal and more dull than his earlier movies. But Tarantino really doesn't seem to care. He's making movies for people with his taste, and I happen to be one of them.

How can you not love the guy. When he comes out with such brilliant dialouge like "Silly Rabbit, trix are for kids." I mean, it just doesn't get any more brilliant than that does it?

Ok, to be real...Kill Bill I and II I absolutely despised. I thought they were two over rated piles of crap, no matter what anyone else says.

On the flip side of the coin though, Pulp Fiction is in my top favorite 3 films of all time, and Reservoir Dogs is close to top 10.

I don't love the guy, but I respect him a lot. he just gets me so pumped as film lover. I also like that he seems like the dude that's always inspired. Scorsese has that too, not since Casino, but he has that love for film.

Oh and by the way, I don't think if QT is in Marty level yet. He's good though, maybe the bes writer of this generation.

Ill admit Scorsesee has more great films and more pedigree but I would still place Tarantino with him. Both are those few directors that get me ecstatic to go to the cinemas. It should be like that all the time

I'd rather take this guy than, say, all the Stephen Sommers or Rob Cohens of the world.

When I see a Quentin Tarantino movie, I know I'm being guided by a guy who LOVES movies -- it drips off the screen.

I've never really gotten on the Tarantino bandwagon. I loved Pulp Fiction and Resisvour Dogs was good but I must admit I was a little disapointed by Kill Bill. To be honest he makes some intresting movies but I do think he's a little over-rated sometimes. I wouldn't say I hated the guy but I also wouldn't say I loved him either.

I am a huge fan of Tarantino's, love the dialogue in his movies and his orginality in films, Reservoir dogs rules. I don't think he's as excellent as Scorsese but Taratino always comes across as a great guy, he attends the awards bashs and has great things to say about the British, in my opinion he's brill.

Then I realized it was a typo.

But that's it. I'm not sure how everyone seems to miss the part about Tarantino where he's talked about his ecstacy use and how he thinks it's damn near the greatest thing around. I've gotten into the discussion many times, and everytime -- no one seems to have ever heard him mention this. And during the filming of Kill Bill, I heard him talking about it more than once, and he said that "they" used it frequently during the filming process. This was Tarantino saying this -- not hear say.

The way this guy talks, the rumors about his projects - "E" explains everything.

When you have some guy talking a mile a minute about how he's going to make a sequel... in 15 years.... and a movie.... in a foreign language.... maybe a new Friday the 13th.....

Not saying that Quentin isn't going to pull through -- but recognize: It's "blowing up" talk, and that's not hard to spot.

The only thing keeping Quentin from not looking totally in the X-zone is that he doesn't offer back rubs and hugs to his interviewers. But who knows.....

You know, I'm an aspiring writer myself. I've been working hard, trying to learn the ins and outs of screenwriting for a little more than a year. I'm still learning and am trying to write "well written" screenplays. But I hate it when amateurs say things like "his scripts suck" and "he breaks all the screenwriting rules" and all that shit. Why do his scripts suck? Becuase they don't look like it says in the book? Fuck the book. I don't care if Pulp Fiction was written on a napkin, it's still a masterpiece! Tarantino is Tarantino becuse he doesn't write "by the book." That's what makes him so good. If Tarantino would write "by the book," he would be...well...us.

I'm on pretty much the same level as you Murdock. I feel that Tarantino is somewhat over-rated, however I can't really say that I hate the guy, nor love him.

I felt Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs were both excellent pieces of film (both manage it into my own top 20), yet Kill Bill Vol. I really failed to impress me. I didn't expect much from it, and was still disappointed. However, I am yet to see Kill Bill Vol. II.

I think Tarantino can be great when he sticks to the gangster genre. The Kill Bill series was quite entertaining, but too dependent on style. Jackie Brown plain sucks ass.

I hate when people say this. I dont mean they suck because theyre not typical 'by the book' scripts. If anything, I LOVE weird scripts.

But I recently read Pulp Fiction to do coverage on in my screenwriting class (mind you IVe never seen the movie) and I was blown away by how BAD it was. Disjointed, ridiculous, one-dimensional with dialogue so odd (not BAD per se) but just so ODD that I cant stand it.

If it didnt have Tarantinos name on it it never would have been made.

I love watching Tarantino's movies. However, even the almighty Reservior Dogs (sorry to break it to everyone, but it's much better than Pulp Fiction :D ) has recently slipped from my Top 20. And I'm not even someone who makes a "Top 20 ever made"; my list is just personal favorites. I'm not sure what it is, but thinking about it too hard makes me too critical and disappointed in his work, but if I just kinda pop one in after not seeing it for awhlie, I have a blast.

About him as a personal, he's undeservedly full of himself. He's given 4 movies to the world and thinks he is the greatest man to ever walk the Earth. Sorry Quentin, you're a lot of fun when you just the bullshit and make movies, but the rest of the time you are an annoying ass.

I think you're overstepping a bit there.

Usual Suspects came out in 1995 - I hardly think McQuarrie and Singer stewed over 1992's Reservoir Dogs, and 1994 Pulp Fiction before coming up with TUS, then writting, casting, filming, and releasing it all in the next year.

If you want to talk about influence, sure it could be there, but I'd accredit movies like The Third Man, and The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 ages before ever crediting something that was made a year earlier.

As to whether Pulp Fictions success (it's practically an urban legend that Reservoir Dogs was at all successful beyond Canne....) had anything to do with making The Usual Suspects more marketable - that could be said - but as far as actual influence story or style wise - Doubtful.

Reservoir dogs 1992
The usual suspects 1995 - rip off RD

3 years difference - The director saw RD in cannes, got fasicnated by the writing and undercover cop shit, went home with RD in mind and wrote TUS.
Casting, editing, acting........ done in a year and BOOM.. you get a reservoir dogs rip off in less than 4 yours. Magic, eh ?

Okay, so now it's not Pulp Fiction AND Reservoir Dogs, it's just Resorvior Dogs.

Okay, sure - Do you have any basis for this, or are you just assuming, because they are two movies that are about criminals that came out in the early-to-mid 90s?

Other than both movies being about a heist, I hardly see the similarities. Totally different premises told from totally different points of views, with different moods, themes, and overall plot.

Believe what you want - ain't no thing to me. For all I care, you could beleive The Usual Suspects was based on the memoirs of Ronald Regan's wet nurse. I doubt there's even much room for debate, since your arguement basically boils down to "Just because."

Now, if you have some privy as to an interview with Singer, or what-not where they talk about how seeing Dogs made them rush out to film The Usual Suspects. -- but overall, if anything, there are a dozen other movies made before 1995 that have more similiarity to The Usual Suspects than Reservior Dogs does.

I'm not opposed to The Usual Suspects being influenced by Reservoir Dogs, I'm just not seeing it. Yeah, filmmakers are influenced all the time, but in this case I think you're barking up the wrong tree.

Shockwave

..im not seeing it all how they could do it that fast, but if they DID do it that fast then i have even higher praise as The Usual Suspects stands above RD im my mind as in overall better movie with one of the most kick-ass endings ever, and perfect casting.

...that being said, i still love RD.

Shockwave - Check out The Taking of Pelham 1, 2, 3... While arguably not as good as Reservior Dogs, it was def. a big influence for QT, and IMO is a must for all fans.
