I had a cool idea! We all know which major horror films are worth watching, but what about all the direct-to-video ones??? We should use this thread to highlight any obscure gems we come across down the video store.

Let's get searching!!!

THE NIGHT MOTHERFUCKING FLIER

You sure? Wasn't it a TV movie? Like The Stand, IT, all that? If that's a stv movie I need to rethink my opinion of stv movies. . .
But I'm almost positive it was a made for tv movie.

Night Flier rules. I like Shredder too:) Anything by Stuart Gordon or Brian Yuzna (Dagon/King of the Ants/ Beyond Re-animator) kicks ass. Plus cool films Dimension doesn't bother to release properly like Below and Equilibrium.

I watched Vampires: Los Muertos last night. Cool scene where the vampires raid the bar:cool:

If you want to get technical The Night Flier had a very limited theatrical release before hitting cable then video stores. A couple of other choices mentioned wouldn’t be categorized due to either being shown theatrically in other countries or festival releases. That would also rule out the movie I was going to mention Chasing Sleep, due to these restrictions. When I think direct to video I immediately think of the boom in the early nineties with Charles Band heading full moon pictures or the latest Debbie Rochon flick. I didn’t think Bleed was that bad. Those pictures had no chance to be shown in a movie theater.

It premiered on (motherfucking) HBO, but it wasn't made specifically for the tube. As Cabrini mentioned, most of the films listed in this thread were given a limited theatrical release. They can still be grouped with straight-to-video flicks, however, as the majority of Blockbuster patrons don't know the difference anyhow.

Good call on Chasing Sleep.

Dead Birds

Quite simply one of the best direct to video horror flicks in a long time. 7/10

Dunno if Monster Man ever got a theatrical release, but it kicks ass! The monster truck is amazing and there's loads of gore.
Anyone who liked Club Dread will love the humour, too. And if you didn't like Club Dread you're a meanie ;)

Word! Strange how there seem to be very few Club Dread fans out there. Anyway, don't watch Terminal Mothafuckin' Invasion. It may seem like fun 'cos it's got Bruce "The Man" Campbell in it, but it's a crap, really low-budget rip-off of The Thing.

The Prophecy: Uprising

even though it didnt have Walken in it, and they casted Doug Bradley in a part that previously had Viggo Marteson in the role. it was still a cool movie, and very welcome in my collection.

Was The Prophecy DTV in the UK? I bought the DVD a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it. Also, Brain Dead starring Bill Pullman, Bill Paxton and Bud Cort was a really good fun, twighlight zone type of film. Not to be confused with Peter Jackson's Braindead, though. There's no zombie babies in this one, but it's entertaining stuff.

I saw Ghost Rig and Ghost Rig 2 this week...

Ghost Rig (also known as The Devils Tattoo) was funded by the Scottish lottery but don't let that put you off. Even though it's just a bunch of people stumbling around an old oil rig it has a good atmosphere and some nice twists at the end.

Ghost Rig 2 (AKA Sea Ghost) has absolutely nothing to do with Ghost Rig. It's trying to be Deep Rising, but has the silliest story, the stupidest characters and the worst CGI EVER!!! If you like bad movies then this one's for you, but make sure you have plenty of alcohol:)

Glad to see a positive rating on it. I didnt even know it was out yet until browsing netflix. While I cried bitter tears when knowing Walken wouldnt grace the sequels, I'm still curious on it and will give it a go. The premise is too cool to pass up
