July 6, 2005
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com)- Leonardo DCiaprio is looking to produce a feature film adaptation of Kurt Vonnegut's classic "Cat's Cradle" through his Appian Way production shingle.
Hillard Elkins' Elkins Entertainment is expected to join Appian on the project, according to Variety.
"Sahara" scribe James V. Hart will adapt the 1963 novel with son Jake Hart. "Cradle," which mixes Vonnegut's signature dark humor with a dystopic vision of a group of people searching the world for a substance called Ice-Nine, which is capable of instantly freezing the world's water supply.
DiCaprio, whose next film is Martin Scorsese's "The Departed," has been circling a number of upcoming acting gigs including leads in the Robert Ludlum adaptation "The Chancellor Manuscript" and Ed Zwick's "The Blood Diamond." The industry trades make no mention of the "Aviator" star considering a role in "Cat's Cradle."
