I read about this in a magazine and had to cross reference this info w/ imdb and yes its true! The novel by Armistead Maupin who has brought us The Tales From The City series did a chilling tale called Night Listener which I was forutnate to have read from begining to end. I am sooooo stoked that the movie will be coming in 2006 and hopefully they will do a good job.

Brief Synopsis from imdb:

In the midst of his crumbling relationship, a radio show host begins speaking to his biggest fan, a young boy, via the telephone. But when questions about the boy's identity come up, the host's life is thrown into chaos.

And here's a summary on whos in the movie...

Robin WIlliams
Toni Collette
Sandra Oh
Rory Culkin

All I can say is the pacing is very creepy and yet shocking at the same time.
If ya liked his writing in the Tales of The City series then ya might swing right into Night Listener...
