Alright, I've seen Ft13th part 1, NOES 1, Night of the Living Dead, Suspiria, Hellraiser, TCM, etc. and none of those movies did ANTYHING for me. I've seen a lot of horror movies but so far nothing has put me in a scared feeling OTHER than The Exorcist when I first saw it when I was 12 :)

What's wrong? Please recommend some horror which will actually make me want to crap myself in fear.

No problem. I watch a lot of horror films and it's rare to find a film that is actually scary for me. Here are some that I found somewhat creepy/scary or at least had some creepy scenes:

Prince of Darkness
The Eye
Candyman
Threads (not really horror though)

Try The Eye and the videogame "Silent Hill 3".

I've played and beat Silent Hill 3 and it did nothing for me lol.

I've seen The Ring ( I know not Ringu, but close enough) and it did nothing other then jump scares for me.

:(

I'll rent Candyman as I'ev heard good things.

I also want to clarify that I've seen many many horrors that aren't listed, so don't think that I've only seen those 4 and that's it :)

Horror films don't have to be scary to be enjoyable. I don't know why so many genre junkies look for jolts, shocks, thrills, and chills. The genre is an art form. If you want to be genuinely frightened, play Russian roulette or take a stroll in a bad neighborhood at night.

You say AT LEAST one Godly thing a week, I swear Count!

I might as well start worshipping you, because I was thinking something very similar. All but the Russian Roulette and bad neighborhood.

GODLY. :D

But you are right Count, I whole-heartedly agree.

Play RE4.

Running from crazed zombie-like villagers, boarding up windows, and shoving shit in front of the door, while knocking over ladders to keep chain-saw weilding maniacs from entering has never been so much frightening fun.

Made even this horror fan jump a time or two.

That's understandable. I'd recommend The Last Horror Movie and The Nameless if you want something that gets under your skin.

And now that it's been revealed to the public, I'll fess up to it. It's true that I am, in fact, God. Mr. Peanut is a disciple.

Try Session 9, Black Christmas, and Ju-On: The Grudge. Session 9 and The Grudge are great creepfests, Black Christmas was the first and only slasher movie to really scare me.

Horror films don't really scare me because they're too fantastical. I think some non-horror films are scary because they're more realistic.

Baise Moi scared me off women....... (only joking ladies);)

I have to say that the first Evil Dead had me leaping out of my seat like a jack in the box and pissing myself like there was no tomorrow. Maybe that'll put the fear in you. Or not, maybe you're somehow immune to horror. Most of the movies you mentioned had me crapping myself at some point, with the exception of NOES and F13, which are just good fun. I finally saw TCM recently and it scared the living shit out of me!

Do you concider jumping at a scare is being afraid of a movie? Often I feel the suspense but I'm not scared, like I don't fear watching it.

Im too jaded to get frightened by much in films. My own imagination though...

To me no movie has ever been *completely* frightening. Although when I watched In the mouth of madness with the lights shuts off I got chills.

I would go with The Shining and The Changeling.
But it's just because a movie portraying a house, its past and its influence on its inhabitants can have some weird effect on me. Don't know where it comes from, though.
Everyone has probably a "weak point", so it's kind of tough to know what kind of horror will genuinely scare you.

Interesting point. I normally only jump at horror films when I'm watching horror flicks with my friend, who turned round and screamed at me while watching House on Haunted Hill. However, TCM really creeped me out: The hitchiker and dinner scenes just scared the crap out of me. Recently, Wrong Turn made me jump, but it's not exactly a horror masterpiece.

First of all cryptopsy I'll be the first to agree the majority of horror movies haven't flat out scared me either. Of the list you mentioned only Suspiria, TCM and NOTLD (at brief moments) were creepy. However I still love for those movies anyway.....

Anyway if you want to be scared I'd recommend something like Black Christmas (those phone calls are fuct up), Stanley Kubrick's version of the Shining, as well as something like A Tale of Two Sisters. Session 9 & Evil Dead also provides some great scares.... Psycho (1960) and Rosemary's Baby are both films which may not scare, but they certainly get under you skin....... Or you could try some of Dario's other movies (Deep Red etc)

Hope that's helped, even if you don't find them flat-out scary hopefully they'll get understand you skin, like they did for me.......
But ultimately everyone's obviously got their own fears, depends on what you're really terrified by.....

Crytopsy:

Some of those films you mentioned are pretty good, so I feel you are not watching them correctly.

#1. Watch them late at night. At least after 10:00pm or after midnight is even better.

#2. Be sure to turn out all of the lights in the house. I mean every single one, except the TV of course.

#3. Be alone, have no friends with you, not even your dog!

#4. If you are still not scared you need to advance to semi (potential) danger:
a. open a window in your viewing room
b. open a window in a different room
c. open your back door , or at least unlock it!
d. open your front door, or at least unlock it!

#5. Try turning the volume way down or way up.

#5 1/2 : be alert. Don't drink alcohol. Try drinking one or two cups of coffee instead.

#6. When the horror film is done, go for a walk around the block. Be sure you are alone.

#7. Immagine that what is happening in the movie is actually occuring. If you see a witch. pretend your wife is a witch, or your roomate is a zombie, etc....

#8. Watch a series of horror films in a row. For example, see film #1 at midnight, then film #2 at 2: am, then film # 3 at 4 am: The same night of course. This has worked for me in the past...

Good luck and report back to us.

I think these factors are a HUGE reason why no one is ever scared in movies in theaters. Ive found that when Im concentrating hard enough on just whats happening in the film I tune everything around me out completely, including the dim theater lights, and am genuinely afraid if it was a well made film. Also, I dont think there is any difference between suspense and the fear of watching, just different levels of such. For example, the suspense builds the fear, but you may not be as afraid as you are in suspense to see whats about to happen. Its hard to explain normally, and even harder on a messageboard but if you get what I meant at all then awesome.

Also, if you have the SLIGHTEST inclination to squint your eyes oy maybe close them completely at all when youre following meltingman's list, that counts as being afraid :P
