I have no idea what those monsters are, never much played the game, but this still seems like great news. Check it out:

The description of a particular scene as a live-action first-person shooter (we enter the main's eyes and see from his POV) sounds pretty darned cool. I just want Rock to actually be in a good movie that does well at the box office (rundown doesn't count then).
Here's hoping it's good.

so the whole no hell/mars/demons thing was just some rumour that got out of control???
anyway, if this news is true it could be a lot of fun, The Rock is starting to grow on me as an action star and if this is going to be violent and full of demons it might be worth seeing

This is fascinating news. I saw The Rock on The Daily Show when he was promoting Be Cool, but all Jon Sterwart wanted to talk about was Doom. Then The Rock said it would be rated R, and I was like pshaw... whatever. He was just saying that to look good.
But now it looks like it could be true. That's... that's just awesome. Though I knew for a while Karl Urban was the main guy. I'd heard long ago that The Rock probably wasn't going to be in it much, as he was on his way to make Spy Hunter...
And of course, being AICN, the first ten posts to a very possitive story that seems like every fanboy's dream come true are like "THis is gonna be horseshit!" Along with the usual Q-bert: The Movie, Pong: The Movie jokes.

When I read this a big smile came over my face. I'm actually anticipating this now, whereas before, I was pretty upset that they were making so many changes to the source material. However, this sounds good. The Rock is the best action star working today, and this will be fun. The FPS part they described sounded awesome.

Having played through all 3 Dooms I always though that rumor smacked of cow manure to me anyway. How the hell can you make a movie based on a game that deals with hell w/o hell involved? Anyway I'm glad to hear that this will be an R flick. Might just have to check this one out now.

YES!
*does dance on any executive that brought up the idea to make it PG-13's chest*
looks freaking awesome to me. I played the game all the time as a kid.

..i must admit i went from having some interest in this to being 100% stoked with the news that it WILL be a totaly faithful adaptation.
Bring on the mindless action, gore, and non-stop carange. We all want it.:D

I hate to say this, but....I'll believe this when I see the trailer or the TV spot that says, "This film is rated R." I've seen this senario before.
But I really am hoping this happens. Really, I am.

I was having some serious doubts about this flick... especially when it's so close to release and there's no trailer in sight. That's the scenario for most crappy flicks that usually come out in January.
But after reading all about that panel at the Comic Con I have changed my tune. The POV scene sounds awesome and it actually looks as if the filmmakers tried to keep the movie as faithful to the game as they could.
I felt the same way about the first Resident Evil movie... the early descriptions and talk of it being PG-13 turned me off completely... until I saw the trailer. I ended up loving the flick (the sequel is another matter).
I hope DOOM knocks my fucking socks off!

What impressed me the most is how they're taking the universe seriously in tone and in the script (I'm going on The Rock's word, but I trust him ;)), keeping everything that made the game tic intact and not changing everything to make it "better" when really all that would accomplish is pissing a whole lot of people off and satiating the filmmaker's ego that they made something "original" that just happened to be ripped off of other, BETTER movies that have little or NOTHING in common with the game that was being "adapted"... oh, and most importantly, how the FX are mostly practical as opposed to shitty CGI.
Too bad these guys weren't fans of Resident Evil before it was tossed into the shit-grinder.

Well, you saw Alone in the Dark?
This is clearly a step in the right direction. Respecting the source material (which in this case includes the graphic violence) is always key to a good adaptation.

Doom scared the Sh*t out of me playing it as a kid and Doom3 was pretty intense, I hope they keep that feeling. Although I used to hate Dwayne Johnson's acting skills walking tall made me laugh so much and he does have the correct appearance. Let's hope they don't balls this up.

I was damn impressed by the teaser!
Less cgi demons and more costumes! Good stuff.
I loved the first person part, and overall it FELT like the game.
Groovy!
I was so glad when I heard this, plus even happier when I saw the teaser, and saw the Hellknight (I'll now be entering fanboy nitpicking mode) although he wasn't as big as he was in the game.

if u look carefully in the trailer i do beleive that they show the BFG.
****************************SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! **************************************
Another cool thing i learned was that The Rock was offerd the role of the hero but instead wanted to play the villian, or demon/cyborg instead.
That Rocks.(no pun intended) Shows hes not content to play the good guy bad-ass all the time and is willing to take a back-seat to have some fun. I think thats a pretty cool thing to do as most audiance members are going to think hes the good guy/main character.

Making this movie as a great idea. I absolutly love the game. Throwing in a FPS aspect even cooler. Hell, demons, lots of gun, awesome awesome, awesome.
But The Rock.... C'mon, there is much better people. I still think the movie will be good and I will be able to stand him in order to watch it, but honestly. It could have been Bruce Campbell (perfect in my mind), Mickey Rourke, Clive Owen. Oh well, I hope with all my soul it won't suck.

I love Bruce Campbell, but unless u wanted to make a horror/comedy out of it (..and why would u?) then he would be totaly wrong for the part.
The movie needs a badass Ah-nold type figure.

It wouldn't have been a comedy at all. It would have been a demon killing smart-ass!

Rock is really the new Arnold in my mind... Except the difference is Rock has more than just Charisma about him. He's also funny and a much better actor than Arnold, with more range.

Yeah, i have, and while i dont think he plays the CYBERDEMON, i do think he winds up as the badguy and gets demon-ized.

I don't think he plays the Cyberdemon. I'm assuming you've played and beaten Doom 3 correct? Otherwise I don't wanna ruin the game for you.

*SPOILERS*
He plays Sarge... If you remember who that is...
if not, from www.planetdoom.com:
http://www.planetdoom.com/images/characters/final_kelly.jpg
Master Sergeant Thomas Kelly:
The ranking Commanding officer at the Mars base. "Sarge" as his troops call him is a veteran of the UAC Marine Corp. and is a man of action. Not one to even think of running from a fight, he'll be in contact with you through out the game.
and here's what he becomes:
http://www.nextdimension.org/other/doom3/sabaoth.jpg
Sabaoth: :
Sabaoth totes a BFG and a tank for a lower half of his body. Try to avoid getting turned into road kill or blasted to hell by it. All you can do is shoot, dodge, and hope for the best. Otherwise, you'll be picking up your scattered body parts from the other side of the room.
But they better have the fucking Cyberdemon in the movie and it better look better than the Doom 3 model and hopefully more like the classic version, cuz the Doom 3 version sucked.
The two demons I really want to see in the movier are the Hell Knight (Wich I saw in the trailer) and the Ticks could make for some creepy scenes.

FUCK YEAH!
I remember playing Doom and Doom II as a kid, and loving every minute of it. I don't even care if Paul W.S. Anderson directs this, Jerry Bruckheimer produces (that's not what is happening, I'm just being hypothetical here), I will still see this movie.
EDIT:
Oh, shit! I didn't realize how soon it is coming out! October? YES.
(PS: Sorry about the swearing...I try to keep that out of my posts as much as possible....but I cannot contain my excitement)!

You know a spoiler warning is pretty inneffectual when the spoiler is in the form of large picture images that can be clearly made out while scrolling down. Not to mention the spoiler warning is tiny and you can't help but look at the pics before you even see it. Just saying.
