the standard cliche in any horror movie is if there is some type of mysterious noise, some nimrod will always go check it out...ladies and gents - i am that nimrod. i heard a noise last night and told my wife hold on i'll check it out. luckily it was just a cardboard box that had blown into our balcony...
the question is how many of you have actually found yourself falling into a horror cliche in real life?

Well, considering my wife is going to make me check out the noise. I guess I fall into the nimrod catagory too.

Nimrod here:)

For some reason if I hear a funny noise and it freaks me out late at night, I get up and talk loudly so the evil monster can hear me like am not afraid.

Man Im a loser....

i never check the noise. i live alone in an old bar with quite a few enemies and for some reason, spirits or whatever you want to call them are attracted to me. so if i hear a rather odd noise, i sit tight, reach over for my aluminum bat and wait it out under the covers...i'm a firm believer in if i can't see it, it can't see me.. if it continues or gets worse...i freak and call someone before i go and investigate.

If those ghosts are attracted to you, what the hells a bat gonna do? Maybe they just wanna some TLC before they go back to the afterlife:)

Just a thought.

I guess it depends on what kind of noise it is. If it sounds like something falling over then yeah I'll check it out I always have my knife on me anyway but if its like a heavy breathing, or a deep growling or something then no I will not be checking that out.

Happened to me when spending the night in some dark, macabre, "Burtonian" woods a while ago.
I definitely didn't check what was the noise. I mean, there were other people, with just a bit of luck the "thing" might attack the first one to move, giving me some time to react.

the bat's for the weirdo who practically stalked for a while and now claims to never have met me... my penguin from madagascar is for the ghosts....he gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside when i squeeze him.

If it's a quiet noise I normally pretend I didn't hear it, but if it's loud I do go check it out. The annoying thing about watching so many horror flicks is that you always assume the worse: It's a maniac with a knife/gun/machete/knives for fingers, or just some asshole trying to get in to rob you.

I am proudly a Nimrod for the most part. If I'm in my room and all alone in the house then I usually keep some kind of weapon within reach. So, I usually grab said object and head on out to investigate!

If I am at home with others, I make my husband go check out strange noises.

If I am home alone, unfortunately I am a nimrod that will check out strange noises but will carry a katana with me just to be on the safe side. If I don't find anything, then will lock myself in the bedroom with my weapon and wait.

one day one of the nimrods in this thread will die a horrible thread and cause of death will be - "death due to horror cliche"

Wow, I feel like I am in the minority here. Pretty much my entire adult life I've yet to hear any mysterious noises that called for investigation.

Now when I was a kid, that was a different story.

Well for one I have a Colt .45 anytime I hear a suspicious noise I bring it with me. So if some killer sneaks up on me then I'll just blow his fucking brains out.

I always hide under my sheets screaming, GO AWAY!!, all they while crying uncontrollably, no matter what noise I hear when I'm alone. And if I hear it again, I reach over beside my bed, grab my Kimber .45, and run down the hall screaming through the hail of gun fire. My neighbors don't like it, but they've gotten used to all the craziness. You hear lots of noises when you've got a cat... and, well, I've gone through a LOT of cats lately... wait... what was that?

GO AWWAAAYYYY!!!!!

Did it ever occur to anyone that we are curious beings by nature?

Now I realize that every time we are watching horror films be it Friday The13th, Halloween any number of clichéd ridden epics and some poor dope says....

What was that’? Or ‘Who’s out there’?

We the audience immediately says…

How stupid can this guy or gal be?

I wouldn’t go out there! Or (fill in the blanks)

However no matter how self-aware or well informed we may consider ourselves, through no fault of our own we can’t resist temptation.

In any given situation no matter how strange or bizarre the circumstance. We tend to ignore our instincts or better judgment and make bad judgment calls at on time or another. After all no body is perfect...that is a stone cold fact!

Take ‘Scream’ as the example. A film that was self-aware of the clichés and no matter how intelligent we think we are, our arrogance can blind us from truth.

Food for thought?

If a hear a strange nosie I just stop whatever I'm doing and wait about five minutes. If I hear nothing else I keep doing whatever it was that I was doing. Usually it either my cats or my mother coming home from the basement.

Well, I am the wife in this household, and I'd rather be the nimrod who checks out the strange noise than my husband. Why, you may inquire? Because once he finds out it was nothing, he'd come back and scare the shit out of me. I'd rather take my chances with biting it from a horror cliche.

I'll check it sometimes. My curiosity is pretty strong. If it's really bizarre and needs checking out, I'm there, but otherwise it depends. (Like if I'm snug in bed and don't want to move)

I think there is something going on outside. I'll be right back. If I don't respond back you will know that it got me.

Yup, I'm a nimrod!:D If I hear something, I always check it out, but I'm also like Erin_LoJ; if it's something minor, like my house settling at night, or something else not that important, I won't go look.

I'm a nimrod! Here's an example of why: One day this summer, me and my little brother where hanging out at the house during the day and we heard a loud sound upstairs like someone was breaking in. We walked outside to the garage and he got a bat. Then we walked back inside and I got a knife. Then we walked around the house checking every room until we found out that it was just a plaque that fell off the wall. If it had been a robber or a psycho, we could of taken him though.

Rock On!!

I fall in to those cliches sometimes. I go "Hello?" or "Who's there?" or "Did you hear that?" But whenever I get nervouse, I head for the door, I dont go in to the belly of the monster.

It depends on the noise. Most of the time, I'll go look. But if it's something really wrong, like a voice coming from the attic ("Agnes... it's me, Billy...") then I probably won't be checking it out. Of course, I've always wanted to try the Ray technique from Scary Movie 2--molest the attacker.

"Uncle Ray-Ray has a game for you..."
"NOOOOOO!!!!!!"
