Criminal-Turned-Actor Bunker Dead at 71

Reservoir Dogs star Edward Bunker has died in hospital in Burbank, California from complications after surgery to improve circulation in his legs. The 71-year-old diabetic was a habitual criminal in his youth, who turned his life around by writing about his experiences and then became an actor in later life. As well as playing hardman Mr. Blue in Reservoir Dogs, Bunker also portrayed a criminal in the remake of this year's The Longest Yard. Bunker also co-wrote the screenplay for 1985 action drama Runaway Train and adapted his own book The Animal Factory, in which he featured alongside Willem Dafoe in 2000. His other bestselling books included Dog Eat Dog and Little Boy Blue. Bunker will be remembered by pals like Quentin Tarantino and Steve Buscemi at a memorial service in Hollywood on September 10.

That's a couple of quite impressive writing credits.

He and Tierney are both gone, now :(

This is so sad. Eddie Bunker was an amazing person. I actually watched Animal Factory last night. What a great movie...

I don't know what else to say. :(

Rest in peace buddy.

MR. PINK: I don't tip because society says I have to. Alright, I mean I'll tip if somebody really deserves a tip, if they really put forth the effort, I'll give 'em something extra, but I mean this tipping automatically is for the birds. I mean as far as I'm concerned they're just doing their job.

MR. BLUE: Hey, this girl was nice.

MR. PINK: She was OK - but she wasn't anything special.

MR. BLUE: What's special, take you in the back and suck your dick?

A time of grief for the loss of a legend, but also a time of celebration for what was a storied career. Anybody else watch the hell out of that "The Good, The Bad & The Bunker" tribute on the Res Dogs DVD? Such a great storyteller.

I never knew much about the guy outside of his role in Reservoir Dogs, besides the fact that he was a criminal in his youth.

Oh, and Animal Factory, but I don't remember too much of it.

Yes.

And I agree. The story where he tells of getting in a fight with Lawrence Tierney was downright hilarious.

Rest in peace Mr. Bunker. Gone but not forgotten.

LMAO

That was just classic.

There really should have been a "An Evening with Eddie Bunker" DVD. Such a great storyteller.
