ANTA FE, N.M. - Actress and activist
Jane Fonda says she intends to take a cross-country bus tour to call for an end to U.S. military operations in
Iraq.

"I can't go into any detail except to say that it's going to be pretty exciting," she said.

Fonda said her anti-war tour in March will use a bus that runs on "vegetable oil." She will be joined by families of Iraq war veterans and her daughter.

They plan to return to the Santa Fe area, where she was promoting her book, "My Life So Far" on Saturday.

Prompted by a question from the audience, Fonda said war veterans that she has met on a nationwide book tour have encouraged her to break her silence on the Iraq war.

"I've decided I'm coming out," she said.

Hundreds of people in the audience cheered loudly when Fonda announced her intentions to join the anti-Iraq war movement.

"I have not taken a stand on any war since Vietnam," she said. "I carry a lot of baggage from that."

Fonda incited controversy in July 1972 when she was photographed sitting on a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun while on a tour of the country to drum up support to end the war.

I half expect her and John Kerry to be together on the bus tour, holding hands and open mouth kissing. Besides the point, she is faded. It won't last.

Even though I detested Fonda's infamous exploits in Viet Nam, I gotta agree with her that this war is predicated on lies and perpetuated by warmongers who don't have America's best interests in mind but rather that of their oil lobbyist and Halliburton buddies.

Fuck Bush.

Who want to bet she's still brainwashed by the Vietcong?

Either way, it's a little late to accomplish anything.

You go Jane!

I back her and anyone (within legal reasons) who are against this Administration and this unholy war of aggression and a push for imperialism.

I also agree, its a little too late; but anything that can cause fuckheads OReilly, Limbaugh, and Hannity to have coronaries about how the Left are actually "domestic terrorists" and shouldnt be allowed their free speech is okay in my book! :D

It's precisely this sort of attitude and the general public's complete apathy about this issue that causes me lose faith in modern society.

No. It's coming out and organizing a campaign against a war that officially started over 2 years ago. If she really wanted to make an impact, she should have done something then. I think we're at a point now where a fast pullout from Iraq would make the situation a whole lot worse.

I understand what your saying, but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't protest this meaningless and costly war. Bush should be impeached for what he's done.

Will she sign my copy of her book?

Thats great...i guess. Kinda.

Im really no fan of Bush, but id direct my efforts torwards something that actualy ACCOMPLISHES something.

I think she just likes the attention it gets her myself. That shit with her and Vietnam still rubs me the wrong way.

You know, I was reading the Doonsbury comic today, and it had the same attiude that you have, Mr-Blonde. Besides, why the hell would we impeach a president during a war? That means we would have to put Dick Cheney in office and that would cause, as I predict, even more bitching coming from you.

Dudeman you are a true patriot. You should enlist today and go over there to help keep us free.

God Bless you.

Hmm. I detect a hint of sarcasm. am I right?

Possibly.

BTW -- It's not bitching to protest a war perpetuated on lies. In my view it would be immoral not to. It can't really be argued that the stated reason that we went over there in the first place- that Iraq was an imminent threat to our national security was proven false. But if you feel that strongly about it, by all means sign up and go over there and fight the good fight.

..AND promoting a book at the same time.

Coincidence that she "cant stand by any longer?" :D

Bush and Hollywood go hand in hand in most cases of pushing a fake agenda.

This thread is in dire need of some political comics. The sheer lack of them is leaving a void in my life.

A pathetic attempt to ingratiate herself back into the public's mind by doing what they expect of her. It says more to not ride around in a bus. And I truly hope people aren't clamoring to have her opinion.

This sounds like a case for Godard.

Whether you agree or disagree with Bush and his administration (I disagree BTW), is any good really going to come from this? All she's doing is re-opening wounds that still haven't healed for many people.

Yead, it's too bad your precious little leader couldn't capture him ("I'm just not that concerned with him"). Then she wouldn't be able to do it.

To find him, we would actually have to be LOOKING for him, instead of mired down in a $200 billion boondoggle in Iraq.

That does tend to help.

Wrap up one order of bussiness before conducting another.

Bette yet, just wrap up the first order of bussiness and then stop until reall proff is obtained, and not just "a hunch". Could save some lives next time.

One thing that does piss me off however is that fact that the Clintons blast the man, but they thought Saddam had weapons of mass destruction as well. Thats no excuse for Bush not gaining better intell since he launched a WAR, but it does erk me abit.

..but then again, i hate most politicians. They remind me of my co-workers.
