Every year, the Library of Congress adds 25 movies to the National Film Registry of movies that, by law, should be preserved. The movies must be at least ten years old AND hold some sort of significance thats either cultural or aesthetic. The movies that have already been selected can be found through the link at the top of the post.
Here's what I'd suggest for this year:
All the President's Men (1976)
Barry Lyndon (1975)
Born on the Fourth of July (1989)
A Clockwork Orange (1971)
Coming Home (1978)
Ed Wood (1994)
The Elephant Man (1980)
The French Connection (1971)
Full Metal Jacket (1987)
Dances With Wolves (1990)
Glory (1989)
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (1966)
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967)
JFK (1991)
The Killing Fields (1984)
Kramer vs. Kramer (1979)
La Dolce Vita (1961)
Leaving Las Vegas (1995)
My Left Foot (1989)
Ordinary People (1980)
Platoon (1986)
Pulp Fiction (1994)
The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) (ok, I didn't like it, but nobody can deny that it has a huge cultural significance)
Seven Samurai (1954)
The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
