Anyone else looking forward to this one as much as me?
Of course, today's main page (http://www.joblo.com/index.php?id=8141) had a link to some on-set photos, but that doesn't really matter to me. I went and bought the series, just because everyone talked so much about it within my circle of friends... and I LOVED IT!

I can't wait to see what is sure to be a load of fun... and maybe a few developments between the characters will be resolved in this movie (?).
If you guys haven't seen the show yet, I highly recommend checking it out.
It's not easy to explain without making it sound stupid. It's 500 years in the future, but it's actually a western set in space. The new "Wild West" is the universe. What's so wonderful about the show is the crew... they are all a group of people thrust onto this ship (in the pilot episode), who have different attitudes and agendas, but somehow learn to find respect for each other by the final episode. But there's always the chance that something - or someONE - will go wrong at any moment.

Great stuff!

I'm a big fan of Joss Whedon and I think that this movie is gonna kick-ass! Every night, when I go to sleep, I pray: "Please God, don't let Serenity bomb! Please!!"

My most anticipated movie of the year. Firefly was treated like shit by Fox so it's nice to see a big movie getting made. And has anyone else noticed how nice the Sci Fi channel has been? They're showing all 14 Firefly episodes IN ORDER every friday night including the 3 that Fox never aired. And on September 27, there's going to be a half hour Serenity special after an all day Firefly marathon. :D

I really hope it doesn't bomb either. From the way the pre-screenings sold out within hours though, I doubt it. It cost $40 million to make. I think it'll do pretty good.

Im glad to hear it and hope it turns out/does good.

Studios that bitch about being mystified about why a 100 million dollar risk doesnt make its money back is becoming old to me.

Slim the budgets down, work with what u have, and often u get a superior result instead of bloating a movie with overdone bullshit from over-priced actors pay to special effects that COULD have been done for far less and looked the exact same..if not better.

I loved firefly and was very sad when FOX decided not to air it any more (strange how that always happened when I go away on vacation). I can't wait till Serenity comes out and I hope it really good because I don't usually get hyped up about sci-fi.

Definitely looking forward to this one (I'm screening it in three weeks). Does anybody know if Joss is intending to parlay any (possible) success from Serenity into a new Firefly series? It sounds logical and that was my original assumption as to why he was making a film based on his own defunct television show, but I've never seen any hard evidence. The attention the Sci-Fi channel is lavishing on the show seems like a good sign.

This was only done for $40 million???????

The effects in the trailer look like its an $80 -$100 million dollar flick easy!

This one looks cool!

It was done for $40 million because they spent about $10 on the cast. That's what happens when you have a cast of less than no-name actors. I'll have to be the voice of dissent on this one. Now, in order not to offend fans of Firefly, let me state that I have never seen the show and I am not judging its quality when commenting on Serenity. I can't imagine this movie making any money. I have seen the trailer a few times now, and speaking as someone who has no idea what the TV show is about, it looks like an extremely generic sci-fi flick, something that looks more at home on the Sci-Fi Channel. It looks boring and routine. This, combined with the fact that there isn't a single recognizable name in the cast (and by that I mean someone John and Jane Doe would recognize) and the show was on so briefly and has a very small cult following lead me to believe that there is not much of an audience for this movie. I smell a bomb.

I agree with Madsen and will also add that some of the dialogue in the trailer was extremely lame and the trailer felt really cheesy at times.

But is this show aviable on dvd yet? I may give it a try before the movie's release date so that I can enter the movie better informed.

Yes, the show is on DVD and I highly recommend it. If it wasn't for the DVD releases, I'd have little to no enthusiasm for the movie.

I agree (begrudgingly) with peeps who say the dialogue, look, and generic attitude of the movie is very Sci-Fi quality. However, I believe that if you have watched the series, you'll know what to expect and be ready for the movie! Yeeha!

Seriously, the show was amazingly good. So, yeah, this will probably be a great movie for the fans, and for the non-fans, just a good time more or less.

The appeal of this show is that it doesn't take itself too seriously like most of the other sci-fi shows you see on TV, where the whole world is going to end every episode. The cheesiness and campy feel is part of the appeal.

I would like to hope this will do well, but like Madsen says, with no big name actors, a weird name, and a ton of other sci-fi movies to compete with, they are gonna have to rely on critic's reviews and word of mouth on this one.

I sense another Hitchhiker's type performance, although I didn't like that film and I love Firefly.

I saw a new trailer for this movie tonight, and while the effects look... amazing, it still looks like what it is: a made for TV movie.

I can't possibly see interest or buzz from the general public. People who've never seen the show (read: most of America) will be put off because they don't know anything about it, therefore will avoid it.

I have zero interest in this movie. But then maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

If they can make movies look that good for $40 million, they need to be doing more of this and a lot less Kingdom of Heaven/Alexander stuff.
