In any English or foreign language or animated films, who are your personal favorite (serious or humorous) obsessed film characters who are obsessed about something in the film (whatever your definition of an obsession is) and please say why, for each ones named ?

Randy from Scream comes to mind.

Obsessed with movies and the best character in that series.

Leonard Shelby from Memento: single-mindedly obsessed with finding the truth. Aren't we all? However, in this situation, it's an obsession that wipes itself clean and becomes new after a short span, and thus the cycle of aggressive payback continues.

*spoilers for Laura*

Jimmy Stewart's haunted detective Scottie Ferguson in VERTIGO, his dangerous obsession with Madeline/Judy (Kim Novak) is what eventually causes her ultimate downfall.

Norma Desmond's fatal, destructive, and completely irrational obsession with the idea of herself making a "return" to the movie business in SUNSET BOULEVARD.

Eccentric playwright Waldo Lydecker's (Clifton Webb) obsession with the beautiful, mysterious Laura Hunt (Gene Tierney), which leads him to murder, in the film noir mystery, LAURA.

Ellen Berent (Gene Tierney) in LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN, stopping at nothing to cling to the man she loves without sharing him with anybody else, even if it's at the expense of other people's lives.

Jerry Fletcher (Mel Gibson) in Conspiracy Theory - obsessed with conspiracies and Julia Roberts (hey, who could blame him ;) ).

He's just a great, crazy character and Mel Gibson is just awsome in the movie.

William 'D-Fens' Foster (Michael Douglas) in Falling Down - obssessed with getting home to his daughter's birthday.

Brilliant and really disturbing movie and an amazing performance from Douglas, without a doubt one of his very best.

The greatest obsessed film character of all time is-

"Y'all know me. Know how I earn a livin'. I'll catch this bird for you, but it ain't gonna be easy. Bad fish. Not like going down to the pond and chasing bluegills and tommycocks. This shark, swallow you whole. No shakin', no tenderizin', down you go. And we gotta do it quick, that'll bring back your tourists, put all your businesses on a payin' basis. But it's not gonna be pleasant. I value my neck a lot more than three thousand bucks, chief. I'll find him for three, but I'll catch him, and kill him, for ten. But you've gotta make up your minds. If you want to stay alive, then ante up. If you want to play it cheap, be on welfare the whole winter. I don't want no volunteers, I don't want no mates, there's too many captains on this island. Ten thousand dollars for me by myself. For that you get the head, the tail, the whole damn thing. "

Scottie Ferguson from Vertigo and Quint from Jaws are both excellent picks. But then again, no one has yet mentioned Travis Bickle from Taxi Driver. Obsessed with ridding the city of "scum" and putting "order" back into society, in his own sick little way.

Speaking of obsessed De Niro characters, Rupert Pupkin from The King of Comedy, obsessed with being on TV, is a great obsessed character as well.

Oh, and let's not forget the Terminator, possibly the single most obsessed character in film history, even if he is a machine programmed to do only one thing.

Uncle Rico's obsession with going back to 1982 for a football game. His obsession is hilarious. The time machine and the videos of him throwing footballs is hilarious.

T.E. Lawrence's obsession with leading the arab tribes against the Turks. What a crazy bastard. He didn't need to do it but he insisted and became a war hero amongst arabs.
