I was talking with my friend yesterday about how it seems like, often, bands do their best work when they're on the verge of breaking up. This led me to think about some bands where the final albums were great. What does everyone think are the best last albums (the last albums with a band's specific line-up also count for this)?
Some of the ones I came up with:
The Beatles- Abbey Road (I know Let It Be came out after it, but as I understand it, Abbey Road was recorded last)
Husker Du- Warehouse: Songs and Stories
Dead Kennedys- Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death
Joy Division- Closer
Nirvana- Unplugged in New York
The Smiths- Strangeways, Here We Come
REM- New Adventures in Hi-Fi (I know they're still around, and their live shows still kick ass, but I like to pretend their recording career ended after this album, since it was the last one with BIll Berry, as well as their last album that was better than just "ok")
Pink Floyd- The Wall (I know they did two more albums after this, but this was the last one with their best line-up)
