That High Pitched Voice!

Firstly, sorry if this has been mentioned before, I don't usualy venture into the Music boards. Anyway what I'm getting at is the high pitched voice craze going around the music scene at the moment, the trend to have some Smurf like backing singer singing along with slow songs. One example is found in Lonely by Akon.

What's everyone's opinion on this? Personally I bloody hate the idea and think it just makes decent songs sound retarded. It honestly sounds as if they have got Alvin and the Chipmonks to perform backing vocals and it makes the whole tune laughable. Am I the only one who thinks the high picthed voice is absolutlely awful?

I laughed when I first heard it because I love the original song.
It's just a "trendy" ploy to pay homage to the song the artist is "piggy backing".

As popular as it seems to be, I don't see an end to this in sight.:(

I hate hate hate hate it sooo much. The Lonely song is one of the worst ones and many songs by Kanye West and Jay-Z have them too.

I'm glad I'm not the only one to find the smurf voice stupid, like xirtam mentioned, the Lonely track is the worst one, especially in the video. You have Akon singing all dramatic like and then in the background you hear Smurfette singing along. Soon we'll be hearing Elmo providing a solo during a 50 Cent track!
