i would love to get that to match my bagman begins lenticular cover, but i'm getting the big superman set
What does lenticular mean?
JohnIan
11-20-2006, 02:33 AM
It is a process in which an image is given multiple pictures by the use of groves. Each grove holds a faction of the whole image, when hundreds of them are next too each other they give the impression of the image. Each grove can hold multiple strips/fragments.
Humans tell distance from the differences we see from each eye. The lenticular image fools the eyes into thinking the viewed picture has depth, giving a 3-D appearance without the use of traditional 3-D glasses.

I picked up the re-release to the first movie. Thanks for the heads up Anthony11085.
I have no screen snaps for the bonus DVD from Circuit City, "The Science Of Superman". The program starts, no menu screen. The Target bonus disc is a CD.
The Best Buy mini book is most outstanding; excerpts from the book "Superman: The Ultimate Guide To The Man Of Steel". Great graphics.

If you guys would like I can buy them for you and ship them at no cost, you could just send me the money for the DVD and shipping. I think it was $21.39 with tax and priority shipping is $4.05. So that would be $25.44, FYE is always more expensive.

Thank you Anthony11085.
I'm glad you didn't buy it. I have it now.
Some info I didn't know until last night. The company that owns FYE also owns Suncoast (Transworld Entertainment). There's a Suncoats in my local mall. This opens a new door for my inner collector.
I have the bonus DVD for Clerks II plus the Superman Returns lunch box tin (there was only two left) with the bonus comic book.
What's nice is that I think all the exclusive slipcovers I have (I've bought all the edtions with extras) will fit inside.
Again thank you for the offer, much appreciated.

Don't ask, 'cause I don't undertand. But right now Wal-Mart is selling those very same B.B. Kong collections for eighteen bucks. I paid well over forty when I bought mine. Get it while you can.

Since I'm hear so often... ok daily... several times a day.
I thought it would be nice to do a little write-up, my observations during the weekly DVD crawl.
First off I'm starting to get a little pissed off at the amount of exclusives stores are now offering. It was nice and kinda special when a few stores did it or the titles were non-repeating; those days appear to have fizzled out. A good example of this new world is Superman Returns. ALL the major outlets had exclusives: Best Buy, Circuit City, FYE/Suncoast, Target and Wal-Mart.
The current bad boys are Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest and season five of 24.
http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/8193/potc2tinagn7.th.jpg (http://img138.imageshack.us/my.php?image=potc2tinagn7.jpg) http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/1053/potc2tinbpv8.th.jpg (http://img99.imageshack.us/my.php?image=potc2tinbpv8.jpg)
POTCDMC has three bonus discs and one tin case. What you see above is the Blockbuster Video tin with the two disc special edition inside and the Circuit City bonus DVD game disc. This is all getting pricy. And the fact is this - I'm not gonna make my money back from selling my extra copies at Ebay.
There was bright side to that title today, twice actually. I'm a regular customer at Circuit City, the media clerks know me. I did not have to rebuy POTCDMC for the bonus disc. This segways into Best Buy, more in a moment. When there happens be a bonus disc or lithograph (should I want), I always buy something; today it was Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (by the way I'm missing the booklet/insert, grand). As you might have guessed the bonus DVD at Circuit City is not packaged on or in the case, it's at the register.
The deal is the same at Best Buy, slightly. Their bonus disc in on the POTCDMC rack. Backtracking, the price for these bonus discs usually are about one cent each, they have been that for these last few years. I decided not to have excess copies of POTCDMC so I just picked up their bonus DVD and the season 5 box for 24 with Best Buy's own exclusive. Plus a second title. The price has changed, it's not a penny anymore. They said it would be free (a Lincoln *wink*) if I buy POTCDMC or they would change me ten bucks. This is new. I opted to lighten my load; I also had with me H.I.M.: Love Metal Archives Vol. 1, I dropped it.
This is a warning to always check your receipt, always. As I'm less than happy for paying much more for something that should be a penny I notice a discrepancy. Best Buy charged me $49.99 for the box set. Huh? The advertisement reads $37.99. I went back and had that corrected.
http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/3032/potc2bbbonusdvdfj9.th.jpg (http://img138.imageshack.us/my.php?image=potc2bbbonusdvdfj9.jpg)
Best Buy bonus disc screen snap above (as you can see I had to do a composite, the stills I got were far too jittery). The big bright spot was at Blockbuster Video. I was expecting grief as I did last time when I acquired the limited edition tin case for Cars. Once again they said no. You need to buy the movie to get the tin. I walk to the shelf and notice all the copies they had for sale were the singles. I ask where are the two disc editions - widescreen? The manager looked my way and shook her head. And said, give it. I got that tin for FREE! I thanked her and left.
Wal-Mart. This is frakken smeg!!! Their bonus disc, a CD isn't attached to the two disc special editions. Nope. It's on the single. You have to buy BOTH if you want the better version. *sigh*. This is where I bought my copy of Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest - twice. That single disc edition will go on sale today at Ebay.
New title, same store. I looked about and I see a rack, grand. Wal-Mart is selling season 5 of 24 with a bonus DVD. This came out of nowhere. I didn't see it a first, but all the previous seasons of the show being sold there have a bonus disc. What's on it? Don't know. It could be some kind of Fox promo disc, unrelated to 24. They have those info kiosk there. I searched their website, no listing for that exclusive. Anyhow, they are selling it for $48.98, all seasons. As you already read, Best Buy has it for $37.99 and Target has it for $39.99. Not that much of a bargin.
Oh, I had no problems with Target, their exclusive disc for S5 of 24. No repeat mess as with their exclusive for season one of Prision Break. Anyhow, I would show the bonus 24 discs, but there are no menu screens, it just starts on insertion. *giggle giggle*
In an earlier post, I wrote about that Best Buy's King Kong box collection being sold at Wal-Mart. Add a new store, Circuit City. They are selling the same set. How very odd. I forgot to look at the price, sorry.
And there you have it, I'm off my soapbox. Happy hunting. Oh yeah, any help over that Star Trek title would be appreciated.
- - - - - - - -
Update.
I had to go back to Circuit City for an exchange. The above mentioned Kong set cost $39.99. It's way cheaper at Wal-Mart should you find it.

that 5 different places had different exclusives or box covers for Superman Returns was horrible. i just dint even try and dint buy any of them. fuck that shit.
24 season 5 at wal-mart was $39 or something. it has "Changing All the Rules" featurette (the making of 24 from the perspective of the producers and executive producers).
i also noticed that the "free" bonus disc at best buy is $9.99
good to hear u scored at cc and blockbuster... sometimes i ask for any free shit available at cc, and they;re cool about it... the last time i did that, i asked for an X-Men 3 sneak peak disc, and they brought out a bunch of other shit (X-Men pin, X-Men poster) to let me keep before finally finding what i requested; best buy seems to be more anal about this (they've repeatedly disallowed me to take the trial issues of Entertainment Weekly), and they mess up my receipt probably 1 out of 3 times
wait, so ... u have 3 box sets of 24 season 5 lying around? and like 5 copies of POTCDMC? i've had to resort to shadier ways to get my bonus discs...

24: Season 5
No. I bought two copies, one from Best Buy and the other from Target. I was curious about that mentioned bonus disc from Wal-Mart. I bascailly mixed and matched. Until I had one near prefect copy. The less desirable set went on sale on Ebay.
Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest
That would've driven me crazy. No. I bought it twice, both from Wal-Mart. The two disc and single version. The single is at auction now.
Your Wal-Mart was selling that 24 box cheaper than mine. I now need to get that bonus disc. But I'm not rebuying the set. As for Best Buy, it was my first time they screwed up a receipt. Question. Who's your nemesis there? Mine is a petite redhead, I call "Red". Whenever I bring in scratched up discs, she always gives me a hard time. On those occasions I see her in customer service, it's time for math.
How much time did the last customer take to be served? I don't want to be service by her. I've let people go ahead of me just to avoid her. There's a black girl there who's cool. Never a problem. Sometimes you buy a multi-disc set and only one disc is truely F-ed up. She lets me exchange JUST that disc. That's nice.
A had pleasant experience with a Wal-Mart customer service clerk. She let me exchange discs on that mega box set for The Matrix. I so needed that. I know had it been Red, she would've just handed me another box which could very well be in worse shape than the one I exchanged. All very trivial, but it really bugs me.

I have to agree with MovieVVhore, I result to shadier ways most of the time. Like at Walmart when they have a movie bundled with the bonus disc side by side I just peel off the barcode for the two pack (always covering the regular bar code) and I end up getting the bonus disc free. I also work at Hollywood video so I buy movies for the bonus disc and then re-seal them and take them back. No harm done, I didn't even watch it. As far as the Pirates 2 bonus disc, I just kept them in my hand and the clerk never asked for them so I got both of mine for free, I didn't even buy Pirates there. And as far as the Spiderman Walmart bonus disc is concered I just split up the 2 pack and placed the movie with all the single Spidermans and went to the register where the clerk sold the bonus disc to me for $4.88, no need to resell Spiderman. Most of this is shady but it sure saves me time and a shit load of money. Plus I only buy the bonus dsics I want, certain ones I just have no interest in like say ATL or Exorcism of Emily Rose, these movies just don't appeal to me. My advise John is become like a ninja! It's all about stealth!

agreed. you gotta pull shady ninja moves to survive in this hobby with limited resources.
my nemesis back in socal at cc was "old asian man"... NEVER gave me a break, ALWAYS checked ID for R-rated shit
at best buy, if the bonus discs are separate (like the POTCDMC ones), ill hold them undernearth or between the weekly ad (anthony-style), and if i get caught, play dumb and say, "but i thought they were free!"
if the bonus disc is packaged on the outside (like DH season 2 at wal-mart), ill buy it, open it oh-so-carefully just enough to slide out the bonus disc, then return it later, cuz Wal-Mart employees don't really seem to give a shit
if the bonus disc is packaged INSIDE (like 24 season 5 at target and wal-mart), then it's scary time, meaning looking for a place without cameras to quickly cut it open with a key or long fingernail and slip the disc out.. yikes, i hate doing that

I love it when you buy the DVD and they include a free ticket to a upcoming movie in the theater. Those are my favorite....
New Rocky SE = Free Rocky Balboa ticket...
I bought the DVD for $14.99. I got a free Rocky Balboa ticket = $8.00. I got the nre Rocky for $7.99 because i would have went to the movie anyways.

PS: I am a salaried manager at Wal*Mart and we do care. Sometimes we have stupid employees who dont look at something like they should...
EXAMPLE: Customer buys a $13.99 Hulk Hogan Classic WWE wrestling figure, carefully opens it, removes the figure and puts in a 1995 Shawn michaels in chaps figure. And then he returns it.
The peron at the service desk never even notices....
Walmart only offers the double pack on new releases for one reason. The first week of the movies release we lose around 20% on each dvd.
At the store I am at we sold 784 copies of Pirates of the Carribean 2 yesterday, at a -24% on all single versions. The bonus CD bungle made up for the lose of the -24%

Your story reminds me of Eurotrip. I recall seeing a copy which had been opened, its bonus disc missing.
Sorry MovieVVhore and Anthony11085 I don't feel comfortable doing such tactics. I shop at these stores weekly. I don't want to make myself a target everytime I walk through the door.
That's not to say I haven't done anything shady. For the first season of Lost there was a bonus disc at Best Buy. Backtracking.
I'm one of those people who believe that when you buy a release the disc(s) should be mint, flawless. The odds drop as the disc number rises. So I make exchanges (frequently) hoping to gain a mint title. For titles that I know will be big sellers on Ebay I will buy it twice, increase the odds of getting that mint set. Now I have two sources for exchanges.
I snagged the bonus disc from the second box and exchanged it for a new one with another bonus disc. Mixed and matched for me, mint set. Sold the lesser with bonus DVD. All and all, I lost money on that, but when you look at it, that Best Buy exclsuvie only cost me about eight bucks. Which is what I would've paid to get it without all this mess.
The other thing I do is inserts. When I make exchanges I take most of the inserts out. Sad fact, NOT all releases have them. It also varies from store to store.
There was this period earlier this year when I went through three weeks without making an exchange. That kinda freaked me out, my luck is gonna fail and I'm only going to get scatched up discs.
I've done that Funnyman, years ago. Sorry. I was working on a Visitor project (V, the NBC mini-series and TV show). It was boots off the G.I. Joe: Teddy Roosevelt 12 incher. It had the shoes I was looking for. I took out the toy and replaced the shoes with ones bought off a G.I. Joe accessory website, not cheap either.
Ok. Long story short I was puting together a fan boy toy. I found guy on the Net who did custom jobs on existing Joes. I had one of those old Visitors toys from 1984 (12 inches, roughly). Awful job on the figure, but the uniform was excellent. I bought and sent him a G.I Jane to transform into my all time favorite Penthouse Pet, Miss February 1993, Julie Kristen Smith. And needed those boots to complete the project. I even bought a display case with stand. It's hanging on the wall in this room. I was lucky. The guy who did them was handed legal papers from Hasbro to stop or be sued. I got one of the last mods before he closed shop.
On a side note, I have finally finished my V collection. Fantastic deal (http://www.amazon.com/V-Complete-Duncan-Regehr/dp/B00023BKMC/sr=1-1/qid=1165490013/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/103-1694768-9044643?ie=UTF8&s=dvd), nineteen episodes for $11.99.

I used to buy used DVDs (ugh) when i started collecting, and many times I would be missing inserts. So back when Wherehouse used to exist, I would rent movies for which id be missing the inserts, and return the movies and keep the inserts. I thought I wouldn't have this problem anymore cuz i only buy NEW DVDs, but are you saying that some DVDs that should have inserts sometimes don't? (depending on the store)?
cuz i've suspected this before... last year or so, I opened a newly purchased Conan the Barbarian/Destroyer and there was no insert... but there was an empty sleeve for where an insert would have been!

This is true MovieVVhore.
I can't recall what title it was, but I bought it at Wal-Mart and Best Buy, one had an insert one didn't. I don't know if it was about the store or if some fellow at the factory was just lazy.
I've been wanting to do that too. Rent a movie and just take the insert. I need the one for Clerks: The Animated Series.
There's your example. When I first saw it, a rental, it had an insert. When I bought it, it didn't. Same goes for the movie Equilibrium, I need that one too.

JohnIan
12-08-2006, 07:53 PM
Anthony11085, not that I'm aware of. I try to find out. But I don't think so.
MovieVVhore. Yeah, I do my cuttin' in the parking lot. Since I only do the multi-buys for titles with multi-exclusives or big box sets, that I know I can recover my money (mostly). For the most part I only do one exchange on damaged/scratched discs. By buying more than one of those box sets, say two, I can exchange once each = four attempts to get it right.
As for your bigger question. No. The luck of the drawl. BUT if, as with The Da Vinci Code; one had a different insert. I bought that title three times, took out the insert I didn't have and sold the rest.
So, no I don't exchange if I'm missing inserts, 'cause generally I don't know if that particular titles is truely missing it. Only on multi-buys do I learn if that has happens. BUT. As mentioned, when I do make exchanges on regulars stuff, I take the inserts out for the replacement might not have it.

I had some good luck at Blockbuster this weekend too, Johnlan. I was able to get the tins for Cars, Over The Hedge and PotC...without buying the movie. I was pumped. Needless to say my girlfriend thought I was insane when I tried to explain the reason behind my excitement. I soon realized it was a lost cause.

Hmmm. This was quite the meh week. Not much of anything interesting. I did however pick up four titles, two of those were Christmas gifts.
Somewhat on my list was the latest Masters Of Horror release, Fair Haired Child. I'm a bit curious. But not willing to pay retail. I noticed something, Wal-Mart isn't carrying it. They sold the previous titles (I own one MOH). Just thought I'd mention it.
The two taken home are not new (you know what I mean), but rather two titles I've had on my LIST for a couple of years; 54 and The Thing From Another World. 54 has been on my list since my laser disc days. I never got around to buying it until today. This was a blind purchase.
The other is The Thing From Another World. I'm glad I have it, but I am disappointed at it being a barebones release. This and Them! screams to be re-released as full blown special editions as Warner Bros did for King Kong.
I have the 1992 Image Entertainment LD edition. It was and still is the only laser disc in my collection where the jacket opens up to reveal a rather large CD holder for the disc. I mention this not because of nostalgia, but because the extras it held: production photos, press book materials, posters and lobby cards as well as the complete John W. Campbell short story (oh yeah, trailer too). Besides those items, its claim to fame was the first time the film was presented with six minutes of restored footage. That last bit is a given nowadays. You can read more about it here (http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc.php?id=2575).
MovieVVhore's Q: "if getting inserts is the luck of the draw, how do u know if a dvd is missing one if it doesnt come with one?" I don't. But if I'm buying two or more copies of the same movie for exclusives or such, I'll know.
Lastly is the Wal-Mart exclusive bonus disc for seasons of 24. I'm willing to trade for it, should someone be nice enough to do so. I have two exclusives to exchange for it: Circuit City's bonus disc for Pirates Of The Caribbean - Dead Man's Chest and an oddity. The drug Prilosec in their bigger boxes had an exclusive disc, Big & Rich - The 8th Of November. I can't recall if it's a CD or DVD. The cardboard sleeve doesn't say either way. And I don't want to open it, still sealed (same with that Pirates bonus). I'll sweeten the deal with a DVD too. Oh well.
Oh yeah, has anybody seen 12:01, I can't find it anywhere. Oh, the Christmas DVDs were The Princess Bride and The Girl Next Door: Unrated. Indeed.

A repeat of last week's weak selections. I did take home one title, A Scanner Darkly. It's a blind purchase. I might have taken Altered, but I couldn't see myself spending twenty on it. I'll pick it up in a later Circuit City or Best Buy sale. I'd say for about ten bucks or less.
A note to collectors, not so much a warning. I was at Best Buy earlier today, looking about. My usual weekly thing and collecting the new advertisement for my project. The box set, Six Feet Under: The Complete Series Gift Set has a minor glitch.
http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/7893/sixfeetunderboxfm6.th.jpg (http://img86.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sixfeetunderboxfm6.jpg)
The plaque on the top showing the series birth and death year is held on by poor adhesive. Two were missing their plaques and the other I touch came off in my hands. I suppose a good dab of hot glue should fix that.
The other thing to mention is Wal-Mart, they're once again having a $4.88 sale. Meh. I saw some stuff I'm sort of interested in. Maybe. The list is incomplete, but you get the general idea.

I had two titles on my crosshairs today, one of which had to be bought three times over.
Going alphabetically... I took home season two of Airwolf. Yeah, yeah. I make no excuses, it's total fluff - very Hollywood. But I still like it. All the chopper needed was some kind of modular slot to install K.I.T.T.'s AI. It is what it is, a childhood favorite. And yes, I do own the complete series, Blue Thunder. What we need now is for Street Hawk to come out. There is something to take notice. The single sided DVDs have FIVE episodes per disc. Unless I'm misunderstanding the technology, that's gonna be less than stellar picture quality. Season one was double sided and had less episodes.
As a blind purchase, I picked up The Big Empty. Five bucks from Best Buy. I saw it there yesterday and when I returned home I read various reviews. Never heard of it until then. I hope it doesn't suck.
It happened, all of the plaques from the Six Feet Under: The Complete Series Gift Set are now gone from the boxes being sold at my local Best Buy.
As mentioned above, the movie The Descent has three exclusives DVDs (Best Buy, Circuit City and Wal-Mart). No snaps, they start playing on insertion - no menu screen. My copy from Circuit City did not come with a booklet, but rather an anti-bootleg flyer-thingie. As in buy the real deal, not an iimitation. The Best Buy copy also came with that item too. I suppose the biggest thing on this subject is Wal-Mart, they were selling their bonus DVD packed with the full screen editions ONLY. I went to both my local stores, nope. I hope others has better luck on that two set.
Completely unrelated. I finally got around to watching a title in my collection, She's All That. The party, music playing in the background (bathroom scene) is "Gorgeous" by Girl Next Door. I was listening and knew I heard that song somewhere before. The song is showcased in the 2003 CD, "DJ Ferret Presents: NOIR - Smooth Female Trip Hop" (kinda hard to find). Seek it out, very silky tunes. Favorite song by far there is "Cold Fever" by Kei Kusama. The song is a Japanese import. Sooooo sexy. And yes, I liked the movie. How can you not like it? Rachael Leigh Cook is so adorable. All huggable and stuff.
- - - - - - - - - -
Update.
As it turns out Sam's Club had the widescreen copies of The Descent bundled with the bonus DVD. Oh yeah. The bonus discs minus Wal-Mart's which is in its own seperate DVD case are within double DVD cases.

I've read all three (Walmart, Best Buy, Circuit City) bonus discs for The Descent have the same content, just titled differently. I could be wrong, though, might want to wait for other confirmation.

Since there was squat I was hunting for this week, I went looking about for other titles on my list. Took home two DVDs.
From Wal-Mart I took home "Weekend At Bernie's". Hey, I like it. I now need to get the sequel.
Oh yeah, the DVD bins where the low priced titles are held is getting smaller. I rememeber when they used to be deep. Now it's shallow. Most of it is crap, but still - everyone once and a while you find a true gem. It's worth sorting through from time to time.
At Circuit City picked up "The Thirteenth Floor". This title was re-released, 2005 to be exact. Why mention it? The original release (1999) has both widescreen and full. I bought it thinking it was in widescreen. Nope. That's ten bucks in the toilet.
This has happened before. The film "Whatever It Takes" (2000) had both viewing options. It is currently being sold as full screen only. I had to buy my copy off Ebay to get it right. And it now looks like I have to do that here too.
A film spoiler here for "The Descent"...
Since there is confusion about the ending. This info is very subtle. The reason why Sarah did what she did at the end was because Juno had an affair with her late husband. It's all in the necklace.

happy new year, fellow schmoes and movie whores!
i grabbed the Snakes on a Plane circuit city bonus disc today, then went to Suncoast for their Snakes on a Plane bonus disc (also pre-ordered Crank), carefully cut open a slit in the shrink wrap and removed the circuit city bonus disc, went back to circuit city and returned the $15 dvd (and thus keeping the Suncoast one, $20 - $7 mail-in rebate), then finally to Best Buy and used a gift card on Flavor of Love Season 2 (with Best Buy bonus disc). oh, also grabbed a $7.50 Dodgeball for the free Borat bonus disc that's been out for a while (couldn't sneakily slip this one out, had to open the whole thing cuz of a large filthy piece of tape they used to attach the bonus disc to the dvd... gotta sell off that Dodgeball dvd tho =/ ). And Lucky Number Slevin (excellent movie).
btw, fye/Suncoast is gonna have free playing cards with Casino Royale whenever that comes out
and thanks for the heads-up about the SoaP bonus disc at suncoast, Anthony11085... hope you liked SoaP! not a good movie, but definitely entertaining!... looking fwd to Crank next week... now THAT's a surprisingly good non-stop action movie! (even tho the preview for it was mediocre and basically looked like Transporter 3, which it wasn't, thankfully)

Dude, where I am, movies retail for no less than $20.00...if you're lucky that is, the average starting price here, is between $23.00 and $28.99....I'm not even gonna get started on box sets (most are no less than $50.00...again, if you're lucky).

i know what you mean, Anthony. I hate double-buying DVDs for the bonus discs, so I employ sneaky tactics whenever possible (you know... we;ve talked about this before! hehe). I mean, no way was I gonna pay for 3 different sets of 24 Season 5 for 3 different bonus discs!
Here's a tactic i used this week to snag the Wal-Mart bonus disc for Family Guy Vol. 4: I bought it, went home, used a sharp tool (pencil, knife, fingernail, whatever) to carefully slice open a slit long enough for the bonus disc to slide out (you gotta feel around and inspect the box to predict where the bonus disc is), went back a couple days later when it was busy and returned it. Wal-Mart is relatively lax with their return policy, and as long as the DVD doesn't look like it's been tampered with, the employees usually don't notice. They're usually worrying about other shit anyway.
This works at Circuit City, too, whenever the bonus disk is attached on the outside of the regular movie case. For example, for Snakes on a Plane, I purposely bought the full screen version, went home, cut slit, slipped disc out, went back next day and returned it. If they ask why you're returning it, say "I didn't realize it was the FULL SCREEN version, so I ended up buying the WIDESCREEN somewhere else." If they notice the bonus disc is gone, then say, "that's why im returning it. i dint notice it was missing till i got home."

I live in the same province as bourahioro, and yeah... it's true. A deal here is $19.99 on a new release. Usually if it is offered that price, it's a one-day only sale. The more extreme collector's editions, and new releases that don't drop in price the first day often go for 25-35$ after taxes.
Sneaky way of getting bonus discs, by the way. I personally think they should be able to be bought separately at a fair price. I don't feel the need to buy several versions of the same movie, or a version I wouldn't want (full screen) just to get an extra disc with 5 minutes worth of content on it. Sadly, here in Canada, bonus discs are a rarity. HMV had a bonus disc for The Descent... and FutureShop has a few now and then... but it's nothing like in the US.

$19.99 Canadian is like $16-17 US, right? but still not as low as $15 US, which i sometimes see for new releases on opening week

Well it's listed as "The Departed - Futureshop exclusive steel case". They have an exclusive case and bonus disc for SAW III too, yet it's just a slipcover, not exactly a tin.

It appears that Wal-Mart (mine at least) is selling Gridiron Gang a week early. Anyhow, for those who are curious, it comes with a bonus DVD.

Crank bonus disc from Best Buy has 25 minutes of extra interview segments with the directors, Jason Statham, the Pedro guy from Napoleon Dynamite, the cinematographer, and the guy who plays one of the villains
Crank bonus disc from fye/Suncoast has an 11-min clip of an interview panel at Comic-Con

My hunt nabbed three titles this week.
No problems getting the bonus discs for "Crank" from Best Buy and Suncoast (both didn't come with inserts). And no exchanges, the DVDs were not scratched.
http://img398.imageshack.us/img398/3071/crankbonusbestbuyom1.th.jpg (http://img398.imageshack.us/my.php?image=crankbonusbestbuyom1.jpg) http://img489.imageshack.us/img489/9438/crankbonussuncoasthi0.th.jpg (http://img489.imageshack.us/my.php?image=crankbonussuncoasthi0.jpg)
Best Buy and Suncoast/FYE bonus disc snaps
Out of curiosity I went to Circuit City, the syringe pen for "Crank" is inside the case. I also took a look back in the sci-fi section and saw it again. Last week when I was there I took home and was disappoint by my purchase, "The Thirteenth Floor". They had two copies, the one I had bought and the other which was loose inside the case. ALWAYS jiggle your DVDs before going to the register. Today; either they sold that damaged or sent it back. I saw only one copy. I was going to leave for Best Buy when I glanced at the back. It's the 1999 first pressing with the widescreen presentation (see DVD Crawl - Vol 2., #1). I bought that, it's mint. The DVD comes with the insert. The re-release didn't come with one.
At Best Buy I took home besides "Crank", "National Lampoon's Senior Trip". I haven't seen this movie in maybe five years or so. I have it on LD. I saw it late one night and knew I had to have it. This movie so so dumb. But yet very entertaining. Plus it has a pre-Deep Space Nine, Nicole de Boer (http://img152.imageshack.us/my.php?image=nlseniortrippx3.jpg) as a lesbian. My complaint is that it does not have the alternate ending.
Ok. Your question MovieVVhore. I've never seen "Gridiron Gang". The bonus DVD is packed slide by side with the movie, it's in its own case. If that helps.
Back to Best Buy. On my list was both "Bourne Identity" films. The store didn't have it. I spoke to one of the employees and they said the warehouse was out. Did anybody get those? I'm in Southern California. Curious.
I found a pricing post I though everybody here would like to read. Target's discount price outline (http://www.boingboing.net/2007/01/08/howto_hack_targets_s.html). Plus various comments on other stores (http://www.consumerist.com/consumer/target/target-price-drop-hack-226909.php).

The syringe pen is inside the case? I stopped by Circuit City last night and asked for just the pen, and the employee said "i think we're all out", went to check at the cashier's station, and said, "yeah, we're all out." i wouldn't be surprised if she was just clueless and that the pens were actually in the cases like you said.
thanks for the target links, btw. "very Nahhhhhce!"

JohnIan...I usually don't like to get involved with these types of things, but I know for a fact that these ads are being copied and pasted here from DVDTalk, and the person who posts them over there goes to great lengths to bring all the members those ads. I can't speak for him, but if you're going to copy and paste the ad, at least have the decency to give him and DVDTalk credit for it AND let him know that you are in fact posting his ads elsewhere.

This time around I took home two titles. Well... actually one.
But first off, in the last DVD Crawl I mentioned that Wal-Mart was selling "Gridiron Gang" with a bonus disc. When I was there today I saw no such bonus DVD. I just saw the movie only release. This was at my store, I don't know if the others who sold their copies early experienced the same thing. It's no loss to me, I'm not interested in the flick.
I had two targets this day both documentaries: "Jesus Camp" and "This Film Is Not Yet Rated". An updated, they're not out today. Their release date has been changed to next week.
At Circuit City I grabbed "Bring It On: All Or Nothing" (I'm a bastard), widescreen - naturally. Now I need to get that Target bonus disc for it. I find it funny that Panettiere's character Claire from "Heroes" is always in a cheerleaders outfit. No reason for it, just because.
From Best Buy I bought "Election". A problem, it's got DVD rot. The disc is mint as in no scratches. But I can see the silver surface, it's full of ripples and bumps. Plus parts of the rim appear to be fading. I got it cheap from their sale. I'm afraid to exchange it for another just the same. What I plan on doing is keeping it and rebuying it at a later time. The case and wraparound is mint too. So if I buy and damaged copy (case-wise) next time around, I can just switch cases.
Sabrett beat me to it, Anthony11085. The bonus DVD for "Employee Of The Month" is inside the case.
- - - - - - - - - - -
Update
Well, I'm such an anal bastard. I went back. Rebought "Election" (mint, most sway) and took home "CSA". A what-if documentary, "Confederate States Of America". What if the South won the Civil War. I've been looking for this for a few weeks. Nice. I do have info on those two documentaries I was looking for today. My error, both have a 23rd release date, NOT 16th. Sorry.
Oh yeah. You haven't LIVED until you have seen a fifty some year old man dancing in the isles while the song "Car Wash" is playing on the PA system (earlier at Wal-Mart). Damn!

Two targets this time around. Bought two, one not on my list.
As mentioned last DC, I went looking for Jesus Camp; found it. No big surprise that Wal-Mart wouldn't be carrying it. My second was to find This Movie Is Not Yet Rated; two documentaries this outing.
My Best Buy said the store had four copies. Ok. Where? Somewhere in the ether. It's misplaced (I had someone help me, it isn't in the back either). Grand. As you may have guessed, I didn't take that home. I'll eventually get it. Oh yeah, the store is undergoing remodeling for a guitar room. The noise of cutting wood and various loud machines hurt my ears. Yeah, that sounds sissyish, but it does. I don't have load noises near me. When it does happen it hits me hard. Like nails on a chalkboard.
At Wal-Mart I saw that "Stephen King's Desperation" is now at $9.99. I bought that. Blind purchase. Never saw the TV movie. I hope it doesn't suck.
Today I join you my DVD brothers. I was at Target and saw "Monster House" widescreen with slipcover. Everywhere I go it's just the case. I bought it and have removed the slipcover. Tomorrow I'll return the DVD for a refund. I'm not going as far as MovieVVhore, you have bigger balls than I do. But I can now cross that item off my check list.
- - - - - - - - -
Ok. I know this is off topic (but kinda a variant on Jesus Camp), but seriously that sounds so freaky, WTF (http://www.glamour.com/news/articles/2007/01/purityballs07feb?currentPage=1) ? That wacky Wal-Mart (http://consumerist.com/consumer/walmart/walmart-and-target-sell-anime-porn-230709.php) .

i enjoy reading your weird dvd crawls. good shit on monster house! haha.. does the slipcover have that "interactive" rotating wheel? i was actually thinking about that slipcover yesterday and wondering if all of the monster house ones have that.
i bought chicago razzle dazzle edition for $10 last week at best buy, but no slipcover. so i went to circuit city yesterday and found one with the slipcover. bot it. will return that along with Heat Special edition i got last week (but kept slipcover).
btw, u know of any website or source that lets u know if a dvd release has a slipcover or not?
and as for jesus camp, i think it's meant to sound kinda freaky cuz it's about some sort of religious camp for kids? i dunno. tell me if it's good. i wanna see This Film is Not Rated too.
this is random: but i watched Bad News Bears (Billy Bob version), Find Me Guilty, and Thank You For Smoking last night. All great comedies, especially BNB and TYFS.

does the slipcover have that "interactive" rotating wheel?
That's the one. Both the WS and FS had the slipcover when it was first released. Now I need to get ones for "28 Days Later" and "Wrong Turn".
i think it's meant to sound kinda freaky cuz it's about some sort of religious camp for kids?
Dude, this is sick shite. Take the idea of Muslim extremists and replace the word "Muslim" with "Christian" - same thing. I saw a few minutes of it online. Stuff like this makes me gland I'm an atheist. One of the people interviewed here is none other than evangelical preacher Ted Haggard. The same Ted Haggard who was busted by his gay crystal meth lover two months ago. The same fellow who condemned "homosexual activity" in his sermons. Do as I say, not as I do.
As far as I know this place is the only real locale that talks about slipcovers. I know of no database for it.

hey guys,
i haven't commented much lately but i read this thread daily.
johnlan, very nice work on the crawls, i enjoy reading them because i can relate most of the time.
movie vvhore, nice idea about the database for slipcovers. this is something i've wondered about for a long time. i wouldn't say i'm obsessed with collecting slipcovers, but.... anyway, i've looked for a site that lists if a dvd has one or not, and haven't found a reliable source. so it looks like its in our hands to compile a list. i'm up for contributing if needed.
MovieVVhore

tight... i think for now, copy the most recently posted list of DVDs with slipcovers, alphabetize them, then add any titles you can confirm that aren't on the list yet.... for example, whoever has the time to do this next would copy Sabrett's recently posted list, then alphabetize (or not), and add whatever they have that Sabrett doesn't.
also, as for lenticular slipcovers, off the top of my head there are:
Batman Begins Two-Disc Deluxe (Best Buy exclusive)
Cabin Fever
Corpse Bridge (Wal-Mart exclusive)
Poseidon Two-Disc Special Edition (limited)
Lady in the Water (limited)
M:i:3 regular, not 2-Disc Special ed. (Target exclusive)
Day After Tomorrow (limited)
Ant Bully (Full-Screen only? never seen a WS lenticular)
Family Guy Vol. 1 (Best Buy exclusive)
Family Guy Vol. 2 (Best Buy exclusive)
Family Guy Vol. 3 (Best Buy exclusive)
Family Guy Vol. 4 (Best Buy exclusive)
V For Vendetta Two-Disc Special Edition (Target exclusive)
Saw II Uncut
Da Ali G Show (Da Compleet Sereez) (new)
Transamerica
Final Destination 3 (Target exclusive)
Superman Returns (Target exclusive)
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Two-Disc Special Edition (Target exclusive)
I know there are more... anyone know about that Ant Bully one?

i recently bought off ebay the Sin City Recut Back Alley Poker Set (Suncoast exclusive) for $25 (used). I am looking to get rid of it bc the shelf wear on the dvd case is sub-par by my standards, but it includes "15 sinful poker chips" (great condition) and a pack of Sin City playing cards, each with a different comic drawing on it (good condition). I want to get rid of everything. Any takers?

After promises of rain these past fews days, it's now pouring outside. I'm now getting back to norm, I've been sick these past few days. I feels good to breathe and not cough (as much).
Today I had three targets. Took home two.
From Target I bought that ten dollar sale set. Well, I paid less. I still had one of my Christmas gift cards with three bucks still on it. I now have "Casablanca". Never seen it; blind purchase. I had to make one exchange on it. Disc two was scratched up. The replacement is mint, but I'm annoyed. The customer service clerk opened the package - with a scissor. Not a collector. There's small gash on the side. *sigh* And happily hands it to me. These are the same people who make me cringe when they put DVDs in their players. I gently descend it onto the tray. They slide it in, usually scratching the discs on the tray itself.
I ended up getting "Flyboys: Collector's Edition" from Wal-Mart. Another blind buy, but looks potentially cool. The slipcover is inside the wrapping, a thick wrapping too. It was a pain opening it without damaging the slipcover.
The other target was "Looker"; I couldn't find it at Wal-Mart, Target or at Best Buy. It's on my list. I'll eventually get it.
- - - - - - - - - -
I was also at Sears today. Noticed something. They have no VCRs for sale. They did have two of those VCR/DVD players, but no straight VCRs.

Thanks for the report Johnlan. I was a little annoyed yesterday because my Target had none of those 2-disc WB sets, i.e. Casablanca. The funny thing is, I've never seen any of those titles there, so its not like they were sold out. Oh well.
My Wal-Mart only had the bonus for Open Season in FS as well, although Target did have an "exclusive" set for it.
That's funny about the VCRs. Now you got me wondering if I've seen any lately.

I took home quite the haul.
On my sights were three titles (got them all) and bought a fourth.
I got all my wants from Wal-Mart this time around; "Eddie Murphy's Delirious", "The Amazing Screw-On Head" (blind purchase) and "Hellboy: Sword Of Storms". On the latter I picked up the store exclusive, an 80 page graphic novel. Pretty cool.
From Circuit City I took home the Criterion edition of "Chasing Amy". I have this on laser disc, it looks like all the extras carried over. CC has an exclusive for "Hellboy: Sword Of Storms" a full size poster. I looked at the DVDs. None of them have any kind of label or something indicating that this is the case. I ended up asking for help. Nearly 20 minutes later she said there were a few in the back-room. Ok. Taking a step back.
The troll I got service from used to work at Wal-Mart. I never liked her. I'm glad she never worked in customer service. Anyhow, troll girl (she's short and fat) says the poster is only for purchases of the DVD. I asked how much for the poster, she replies not for sale. I had in my hand two DVDs I was purchasing (2 copies of "Chasing Amy"). It's not as if I was asking for the poster without buying anything. I bought what I had and left the store pissed.
There used to be an older woman who worked in the media section. She was cool. She didn't give a crap and handed me stuff. I got a lot of exclusives from her. She knew I always bought DVDs from the store. I don't know what happened to her. Unless she got replaced by troll girl.
I go to Best Buy to pick up a DVD for friend and it popped in my noggin. Screw'em. I went back to CC and re-bought the DVD and got my poster. Tomorrow I'm going back and returning "Hellboy".
At Circuit City they were giving away some free posters. I took home two. I didn't realize what I had until I was in the car.
http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/4420/jamesthunderearlybr0.th.jpg (http://img254.imageshack.us/my.php?image=jamesthunderearlybr0.jpg)
It's Eddie Murphy. I did some looking into it at home. It's a poster from "Dream Girls". So, I have these poster now for trade. Should anybody want one.
Back to Best Buy. Once again searched for "Looker" (last week's target). Couldn't find it. I asked for help and got an anwer. The movie is being sold by them, but only online. Strange.
A side note. Today I saw the family of this Hindu guy I somewhat regularly see at Wal-Mart. His daughter/granddaughter is hot. Damn.
- - - - - - - - - - -
Ok. VERY off topic. Porn.
Today I downloaded the lastest issue of AVN (Adult Video News). For those who do not know, it's a trade publication for adult stores. What titles are coming and recommendations. 80% of the magazine is ads. It's a great way to keep up with what's going on in the biz. Who's new, keeping track of your favorite starlets and such.
Jesus. How humanity continues to sink. I saw an advertisement from Tightfit Productions for an upcoming release called "So Low: Autoerotic Self Asphyxiation". I'm so NOT joking.
From the ad...
WARNING. Contains scenes of extremely dangerous acts with possible permanent side-effects... up to, and including death. These acts are committed by professionals aware of these risks, and are done under controlled circumstances. These acts are presented for entertainment purposes only. Do NOT attempt any of these acts under any circumstances at any time!
What the fuck?! There's a guy in the industry who I thought was the bottom of the barrel, Rob Black. He gained fame from filming simulated rapes. *sigh* The same guy who in some of his previous ads included bloody decapitated heads. Yeah, that sells porn. I feel sorry for those girls. This is just wrong. I don't know what else to say.

Originally I had two targets today. But after thinking about it. I narrowed it to one. But took home two anyway.
I'll probably purchase "Marie Antoinette" when it hits the $7.50 sale circuit. But not now.
All my buys were from Wal-Mart once again. They added new stuff to the $5.50 bin. Searching through the lot I found "Masters Of The Universe". Sweet. He-Man loves hangin' with Man-At-Arms. He's metro-sexual in the movie and gay in the cartoon. Unless he was getting it on with She-Ra. But that's a whole another can of worms. But they may have different laws in Eternia.
The other title was "The Quiet". I've been waiting to get this. I missed it at the theaters. I'm a Cuthbert fan. I'm going out on a limb, but I think this movie is cougar free. She so spankable. And by spankable I mean trouser party. Though now looking at the U.K. cover, it's actually better. Same image as the region 1, but in black and white with Cuthbert's lips in red. Indeed.
At Circuit City I went looking for my next slipcover, "Duel", the Steven Spielberg TV movie. I didn't find it. At Best Buy was looking for the slip cover for "Wrong Turn" and "Duel". No luck. Though it wasn't until I was home that it hit me. I forgot to check CC for "Wrong Turn". Oh well.
Next week my SeaView voyage.

I'm sure this has already been posted, so apologies in advance, if that's the case, but if you get Clerks 2 from Virgin Megastores (UK), inside there are 4 free postcards - they're basically the 4 different movie posters, though with slightly different phrases on 'em compared to the US posters.

My plan was for four purchases. In the end I took home three.
From Wal-Mart bought "Flushed Away" with exclusive bonus disc. It's a blind purchase, hopefully it won't suck. I had a coupon for $3.00 off from TV Guide. It works, but not on the editions with the bonus disc; movie only. Grand.
At Best Buy I got "Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea: Season Two - Volume Two". And "Down In the Valley". I was hoping to get "Starship Troopers 2", but it's been sold out. A great deal at $4.99. "Down In the Valley" is another blind buy.
Some info on that VTTBOTS set. I made three efforts (one exchange and one rebuy). They appear to be all scratched up, disc one and three. It's pretty shitty craftmanship. I'm not going to make another effort. On top of that the disc surface has what appears to be bubbles and ripples. I hate that.
I was planning to get "Alias Smith And Jones: Season One", but Wal-Mart isn't carrying it; they would've had it for $28 or $26. I'm not paying retail. Oh well.

i was a bit surprised/disappointed that there was no mention of the Flushed Away exclusive packaging at Target on this thread... guess i'll have to keep checking the dvdtalk forum too...
so with the late news of that Target exclusive, i ran out to get that. Good thing i dint open my Wal-Mart Flushed Away. Carefully cut the packaging and slipped the Slug bonus disc out. Return original DVD later.
Went to best buy, got a replacement copy of Hollow Man cuz somehow it's gone (i fucking hate that) and blind bot Anacondas for $5 cuz i liked the first one. Wasn't planning on getting the free plush slugs that come with Flushed Away, but when I saw them, i decided i MUST have them (you may now call me a whore). So i grabbed one copy and a green slug. Will return DVD later.
Now that i'm home... im looking at the slug and dude this slug is so cool... i've decided i MUST have the other 2 colors... talk about OCD. so i guess ill run to best buy later and get 2 more copies... to return later of course.
edit: called home and apparently i still DO have a copy of Hollow Man. what is WRONG with me?!

02-23-2007, 10:45 PM
so i went back to Best Buy to return Flushed Away (success) and get 2 more copies to get the other 2 slugs. Got the red one, but the blue one that was there earlier today was gone (DAMMIT). This turned out to be somewhat of a blessing in disguise.
Determined to get a blue slug, i drove 15 miles to another best buy and returned the Flushed Away i had just purchased for the red slug. No slugs whatsoever there (DAMMIT). However, there WERE a batch of "300" preview discs, free with purchase of Troy, Alexander Revisited, or Constantine.
They come in nice slim cases and has a free movie ticket inside to see 300 and over 30 min of behind the scenes footage in 12 separate features (regular price $9.99). So i bought a copy of Constantine, which i'll return later. also grabbed Down in the Valley and Enough.
so yeah, heads up: 300 bonus disc available at SOME best buys.

i was a bit surprised/disappointed that there was no mention of the Flushed Away exclusive packaging at Target on this thread...
Hmmm. It was, the page 12; near the bottom.
Any good? What's it look like?
Carefully cut the packaging and slipped the Slug bonus disc out. Return original DVD later.
Do they notice the price is different? The single is less than $15. While the one with bonus disc is twenty. Wouldn't they see the receipt and see that it's listed as 20; meaning that this was a double set and one of the discs is missing?
I'll pick up a copy of the 300 bonus disc next week.

ahh, i guess i missed it at the bottom of page 12... my bad.
as for returning the Flushed Away, you'd think they'd notice, but they don't. The UPC sticker is intact on the back of the DVD. They just scan it, mmmmmmmmaybe notice that the words FLUSHED AWAY come up and if they do notice that, it matches the DVD title being returned. If u go during regular hours (or better yet, on a saturday), it'll be hectic and they'll be too busy keeping the customer service line flowing. If it u go during the graveyard shift (if it's a 24 hr WM), then they'll be too tired to notice or even care. Plus, I doubt they know that the single disc is $15 and the double is $20.
to see a pic of the Target packaging (which looks pretty cool), go to http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?p=7666217#post7666217
And I agree about Slither... it's a shame that it had a weak box office... hopefully if you spread the word, it'll gain a bigger following and boost DVD sales!
thanks for the updates, as always
