Picked up the ten buck deal on "Bullet" and "Poseidon" 2 disc SEs. Not on that Best Buy list is "Giant".

I don't know if all store will have it on sale.

Saw the display for "300" but no DVDs. I was told that they would put them out on Tuesday.

I had pretty much two targets today. Both were gotten.

Before I went to Best Buy I made a visit to Wal-Mart for recon. Hmmm. I rummaged through the $5.50 bin. I noticed some new titlles, but they were full screen. I passed.

Mentioned in an above post, I wrote about on Sunday going to Best Buy looking at their $10 DVD sale and trying to find that promo disc (with movie ticket) for "300".

http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/5614/300bbbonusmn8.th.jpg (http://img297.imageshack.us/my.php?image=300bbbonusmn8.jpg)
screen snap

The display rack had about four copies on it. I grabbed one. While looking about I found the rest of the promo DVDs in the adventure section. So if you can't find one on the rack look in the DVD genre department.

I took home "Giant" SE and had to make one exchange for it; scratched on disc 1, side A. My customer service rep was Red. The redhead who gives me grief when I make exchanges. But she was either in a good mood or just too busy to make a fuss. The only thing that made me scream inside was her walking away with my exchange, knowing she's gonna open it. And not with care. I was lucky. She didn't cut up or dent the case. Or use my case as a makeshift clipboard.

There was a point where I was thinking about getting "The Lost Boys" SE instead of "Giant". But each of their five copies rattled when I shook them. Oh well.

Going back to Wal-Mart, it's still February and they've already have an isle stocked for Easter. Wow.

Something to think about. Some have started others are suppose to begin tomorrow. This is about CompUSA, they're closing a ton of stores (128 of 229). Click here (http://www.compusa.com/locations/store.asp) to see if your store is listed. If it isn't - your store is closing. I might check it out. I bought my Apple keyboard there when I got my laptop last year. And a couple of Mac software. Other than that... I don't really do my shopping there. It was however the only store in my area that sold Apple products.

The title was "Hellboy: Director’s Cut".

And it was bought at Best Buy.

The customer service fellow made my exchange (I can't recall how many discs were scratched) and used my replacement copy as his little clipboard and wrote up the paper work on it. I need to replace that slipcover. You can still see his writing on it, very clearly. *sigh*

I was talking to a guy at Circuit City and he said that the 2 disc Babel was a misprint. Whether or not he actually knows what he is talking about is still in the air. Picked up a copy of Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny with bonus disc. It has some pretty cool features. I also have 2 of the 300 disc, my Best Buy is giving one away for every DVD purchase. So I also picked up Reno 911: Most Wanted which is awesome!

Any more information on the Target bonus disc i.e. actual contents? The web site says the Best Buy exclusive car can be bought seperately (i.e. the 300 disc) so I may just buy the car and then buy the DVD at Target.

Also, any news on the Wal-Mart exclusive? It was rumored to be playing cards last I'd heard?

Bloodsport for $5??? YES! CHONG LI! CHONG LI! CHONG LI!... YOU BREAK MY RECORD.... NOW I BREAK YOU!

The BORAT T-shirt at WM looks dumb ("glorious Khazakstan"), so i passed on that. I really wanted the T-Shirt from BB ("very niiiice!") but it was completely gone in both locations i went to. So instead I picked up DA ALI G SHOW complete series for $30 (very niiiice!) and ordered the BB edition of borat online. also grabbed Peter Pan from WM and CC.

Note about Borat: only some of the DVDs have the illegal pirated Kazahk font look. But all the slipcovers are the same: everything in plain English.

My scope, three targets. Took home three, but not what I had intended. The usual, I guess.

All were purchased from Wal-Mart. I took home (list-wise) "Moonlighting: Season Five" and "Night Of The Comet". I had to make one exchange on Comet. The Moonlighting box has a new disc holder configuration (at least to me). This is the shit that should've been used for the deluxe edition of "King Kong". No DVDs overlapping, easy to remove and put away. The case set-up for Kong is a bitch. Hyper extending the discs to remove. I know that at anytime just taking it out will seriously scratch up the DVDs. Period.

I have two problems with the Moonlighting box. One is my fault, I should've been more careful. The price sticker was on the "HTING", these letters are puffy on the foil slipcover. When I remove the price with my adhesive remover, I wasn't being careful enough and pulled off the foil. DVD connoisseurs know what I'm talking about. The other thing is no featurettes, just screen tests and some commentaries. I would've love to have seen that "Entertaintainment Tonight" documentary on the show. The good and the bad of the series, it was thorough.

"Night Of The Comet" was ten bucks. Good deal for a barebones title. I forgot that "Decoys: The Second Seduction" comes out today. Another barebones title... for twenty bucks. No. I'll pass. I'll get it on the sale circuit.

The third wanted title was "Solar Babies". It's a stupid film, but I have fond memories seeing it at the theater. Wal-Mart didn't have it. In fact neither did Best Buy. Odd (I went there to continue with my BB advertisement project).

Found in the WM $5.50 bargin bin was a title I hadn't thought aobut in maybe more than a decade, "To Live And Die In L.A.". A special edition too. My gripe is that the Wang Chung music video isn't included. Me way too geeky. *smiles*

On TLADILA I had to replace the case. The security stickers were fused to it. Too messy. This I guess would be a blind purchase. I remember renting it as a kid, when video rentals were less than a buck. But I don't remember finishing it.

- - - - - - - - - -

Dudes. I did a double take driving home. If I saw three of them together I would've yelled out WWZ. I saw this... woman talking on a cell phone. Three possiblities. 1) The girl has some kind of medical condition that gave her an incredible gaunt appearance. 2) She's very anorexic. 3. We've entered into Romero territory. Man, that was freaky. She was missing hair too.

I am in error for not doing a recheck.

There is a CORRECTION.

Only seasons 1 - 5 is on sale.

Season 9 is $29.99. I don't know about S6 - S8.

I apologize.

Additional correction.

Only season five of "Alias" is $19.99. The other seasons are NOT part of the sale.

All I can say... this IS Circuit City we're talking about. The same shop that was unaware they had store exclusives. Or if they knew, they would say it's inside ALL of the DVD cases (which it weren't). Prime example: "Apocalypse Now: The Complete Dossier". Only a few copies had the bonus disc.

I was in Best Buy yesterday and I saw they had an add posted on the TV aisle shelf saying you get a free $10 gift card with the purchase of certain series, I want to say it was DVD series on the HBO label, since Rome, the Sex and the City box set and the Everybody Loves Raymond seasons were included in the offer.

I went in with the intent of purchasing Raymond seasons 5-7 and price matching to Circuit City's sale price of $17.99 each. They did this, and I received a gift card for each season (so $30 worth).

My point being, if anyone collects the Raymond series and needs to catch up, this week is the time to do it :)

They were actually on the shelf across the aisle. The offer was clipped on the shelf near the Rome and Sex and the City set, basically near the HBO section, but it lists Raymond on it. Just make sure you have a Circuit City flyer when you go there so it's easy to match. Hope this helps!

I have "When A Stranger Calls" but haven't gotten around to watching it yet. Camilla Belle is very easy on the eyes. "Cry_Wolf", I know the film received lots of negative reviews. It doesn't deserve them. The reason was deceptive marketing. It's NOT a horror film, slasher type. Far from it, in reality it's a thriller/drama. A mind game to be accurate. I liked it a lot. And like Belle, Lindy Booth also easy on the eyes. Nice Little Red Riding Hood costume. Oh yeah, even though she plays 17/18 in the movie she was 26. So feel free to let your thoughts wander. : )

Hmmm. A few months back "The Killers" had a bonus two track CD for that very same album. I have it. I'm wondering if those two songs will repeat here.

What I'd like to see (my day dreamin') is the The Insane Clown Posse going to Walnut Grove ("Little House On The Prairie"). I can so see Mr. Edwards (Victor French) running to the Ingalls, telling Charles (Michael Landon) that the notorious gang is coming to their sleepy town. People getting killed. The three - Charles, Edwards and Jonathan (Merlin Olsen) plotting a very Macgyverish scheme to save their home involving Nellie Oleson (Alison Arngrim) doing some hardcore krumpin' (old school) as a distraction. I smell ratings.

Oh yeah and still no sale on the three pack for "Jurassic Park" - enough with "Riddick" and "The Mummy".

Hmmm. This was an odd outing.

I had one target this time, "Casino Royale" and ended up taking home something else; sort of.

Like most who have read the thread, it was expected that Target would have a bonus DVD. Which was not the case. Some are a bit miffed over Wal-Mart's exclusive. The ad and website apparently said the two card packs would include chips. Reality isn't plural, but singular. And that people got different chips in different sets.

I went to four places today. I passed on Wal-Mart's exclusive, it's just a pair of card sets, nothing fancy. I did get the Circuit City coin. I'm going to return the DVD in the next few days. Damn, I miss that old lady. She didn't care; as long as you bought something you could get the store exclusives or she would drop in other exclusives into the bag for the hell of it. She was cool.

I haven't opened it. It comes in a near DVD-sized pocket envelope. I can't really tell if it's plastic or metal, there IS a little weight to it. What I can tell you is that it come in a small pull-string purse. Maybe velvet- can't tell.

At Best Buy I looked at the non-exclusive toy car. It's cute, I guess. I passed on that too. Oh, they brought back the table. Ok. Backtracking. Since I began buying DVDs there, they would have one or two tables set-up with the new titles, movies and music. A great way to see what's new. Late last year they stopped and started using these tiny shelfs. They do not hold anywhere like the table did. You have to hunt for particular titles in the isles. I know it sounds lazy, but when you have different targets in different categories, it becomes a chore. I can't find it. Is it because I over looked it or that they don't have it? With the table, don't see it - they don't have it. It makes shopping a breeze.

Target. When I found out (in person) of no bonus DVD, I left. Later this evening I got a bit paranoid. What I want at this time is the exclusives. I can get the movie later. I looked at my calendar and see some pricey sets I want in the coming weeks. Ok. I made a decision, I'll buy that Target exclusive and sell the movie. I can rebuy the DVD at a later date when it hits the ten dollar sale cirucit. I go to the store around 7:50 PM. All but one left, I'm glad I changed my mind (widescreen). It's on Ebay right now. I'm hoping to get perhaps $13 for it. I am keeping the slipcover though; in case that sale has it missing.

The book. It's a hardcover pressing, some 132 pages. "Bond On The Set: Filming 007 Casino Royale" by Greg Williams. Pretty much all of the book is pictures, hardly any text. If you were expecting something like an issue of Cinefex you will be disappointed. It's decent. A side note, the book is put out by "DK Publishing, Inc.". The very same company that released the other hardcover exclusive for Circuit City on "Over The Hedge".

If that's not it, what did I take home - part of my collection. Once again bin diving in the $5.50 bin at Wal-Mart; "The Punisher". The Dolph Lundgren version. A good deal, though I am curious. I'm missing the insert. Did it come with one?

- - - - - - - - - -

Pick N' Save. I was there looking about at the DVD area. I saw the single Anchor Bay release of "Dawn Of The Dead". That was a surprise. I didn't get it. I already have the uber box set.

You are hoping to get $13 for it and buy it later at $10. That saves you $3 but if you take into account the gas it takes to go mail it out and the hassle of putting it online you just got f*cked! It was a sh*itty book and a total waste of money. Especially considering it was on sale for $13.99 this week at other retailers which means you paid $9 for that sorry excuse for an exclusive. Sorry for the harshness!

It is what it is.

The same argument can be made by non-exclusive buyers. There are those who are happy with full screen and with bare bone titles who can't understand why anyone woud want extras, let alone a bonus disc with more stuff they consider is worthless. We all know people like that. These are the same folks who keep their CDs not in the jewel box, but in a CD holder sleeves; harshly scratched discs - the polish long gone.

A have a friend, let me rephrase that. I have a friend who has a friend that I know. So, I guess that would make him an acquaintance. He buys his movies used from Star Video. I had a chat with him telling me it was so much better and cheaper when it's bare bones. Whatever.

It's a nice book. Not great, true. The poor exclusive is from Wal-Mart, poker cards? Please. Well, maybe it they were nudie cards, but of hot girls. Not like a set of ladies from "The View". 'I'll trade you this Star Jones for a bullet in the head.'

The toy car at BB is an effin joke. Have u taken a look at the CC coin?

Well the car is a regular toy, not even an exclusive. A better freebie might be the CD soundtrack.

As for the coin. No. It's still sealed. Plastic or metal?

was thinking about the Wal-Mart poker set

It's common card set with the words "Casino Royale" written on it. If you want it, you could do better by getting it from the manufacturer (http://www.cartamundi.com/Content/com/products/retail/licensing/adult/jamesbond/casinoroyalerange/1/index.html) . Though I'm fuzzy on how. But then again, I'm not so into poker cards.

Movie VVhore - I think that the Wal-mart exclusive Is the Best because you get poker cards AND A poker chip which is like a coin because it is made of metal and has casino royale printed on it.

I liked mine!!!

Good Luck with that one! But keep the book because from what I hear it's great!

Also:Walmart has an exclusive for Blood Diamond where you get Syriana for FREE!!! No extra $2 like at Circuit City! For some reason for the last couple of weeks Wal-mart has had the best exclusives. (Except for Borat , that t-shirt SUCKED!!!)

Nothing really of interest for me this particular week. "Night Of The Living Dead". I already own it. It's a good remake, a different take on the undead classic. I enjoyed it. Barbara is far more proactive in this, not the victim as she was in the original. This was the first, a second remake was released last year "Night Of The Living Dead: 3-D". I haven't seen that one. I am curious about it.

Squat.

Like a kick in the crotch I had an unexpected bill surface today. Zero purchases. Grand. That's life.

But I do have some observations since I did go, but for recon.

Best Buy continues to use the tables (mentioned last time), good. Correction. I did take home one. One the exclusives for the store was a bonus CD for The Killers's album, "Sam's Town" with purchase. Some months back the store had another exclusive bonus disc for the very same album, a three track disc inside a printed sleeve. This new bonus is also three tracks, but remixes of the song "Read My Mind"; inside a standard CD case. The ad says with purchase of "Sam's Town". The sticker on the case reads, "Free With Purchase Of Any Killers CD". But there is another sticker on the case, a blank yellow one with the word "Free" written in marker.

The CD was the last one in the store. I found it with the regular items in the shelves. I'm glad I had gone. Took a chance and went to the register. Either she didn't read the sticker or saw the ad, scanned it; $0.00 and gave me a receipt for it. Okay. Sway.

Circuit City. I forgot to include this in my last DVD Crawl. My store is reconfiguring for space. I can understand this. But a favorite area of mine has been neutered, the Sci-Fi DVD area.

The genre space used to occupy nearly one whole long shelve. With just a tiny bit at the end for Wrestling and Special Interests (documentaries and workout) titles. This has changed. The new area for Sci-Fi is now on the other side of that shelve and less than half it's size. The former home is now for MP3 players. The Horror section has also shrunk, but not as much as Sci-Fi.

The reason I'm mentioning it is that CC used to carry hard to find titles. This is becoming to be a memory. It sucks. On yeah, I saw a single copy of "Re-Animator" there, but it was just the DVD, missing was the special packaging and fluorescent green syringe marker. Odd. Best Buy has them.

The auction for "Casino Royale" has ended. It sold for $13.50. Good.

- - - - - - - - - -

March 22nd update.

I totally forgot about it; it feels great when you have a friend who owes you money. Well.. and they pay.

Took home "Re-Animator" with highligher, "News Radio" S5 and "Wild Wild West" S2. Hell yeah! I must be an idiot to forget about them greenbacks.

Both "Aeon Flux" and "Ultraviolet" were decent flicks. But I am sadden with the latter. The people who bitch about the story are often are in the dark about the movie's history. The studio gave the greenlight for "Ultraviolet" to have an R rating. But changed their minds after it was filmed. The director, Kurt Wimmer was not involved in the editing at all. In total; some twenty plus minutes were cut out in favor of having more action, less plot and character. The film's tag line - "The Blood War is On", but where's all the blood? Blame the studio. I suspect the reason is CGI blood. To save money and time, it was probably going to be added in post-production, that never happened. While the DVD for sale above is unrated, it only has six minutes restored. It still a good feature, but what we see is just a shadow of what it could've been. And that sucks.

yeah, that's a shame about Ultraviolet... being a big fan of Equilibrium, i was looking fwd to Kurt Wimmer's advancement or perfection of the gun kata... sucks when the studios overpower or overrule the director's creative freedom

just got back from my DVD runs...

my regular Wal-Mart did not have the Happy Feet bonus disc, just the Happy Feel "exclusive" bundle with some other movie, forgot what

so went to my "back-up" Wal-Mart... got it there.

then Target:
grabbed the 3-disc Deluxe edition of Pursuit of Happyness (wow, i paid $10 extra for a slipcover and a bonus disc... im a whore)...
Happy Feet lenticular deluxe edition with bonus disc? about 30 Full Screens, Zero Widescreens.

Circuit City dint have anything i wanted; grabbed Turistas w/bonus disc at Best Buy.... probably not worth $20, but i watched the movie last night and it was all right (i'd give it a C) and i enjoyed it overall.. im a sucker for films like that.

then my back-up Target: this time probably 50 Full Screen Happy Feet... Zero Widescreens.... not available on Target's website either.... anyone see or know if a Widescreen Deluxe edition even exists??

I just got back from my run, my Target didn't have the widescreen Happy Feet deluxe edition either. I wonder if they produce them mainly in full screen to get people to buy full screen versions.

Nothing.

I didn't see anything that demanded to be taken home. I was looking at Wal-Mart at one of those "Eight Films To Die For" DVDs and got cut. You know, those oversized price tags that over hang over the new titles. I cut my hand trying to remove a DVD below it. Not major, but enough to draw a little blood. I've since put some Liquid Skin on it. I was looking at "Unrest" by the way. I don't know, I'd have to do some homework before I pick it or any of them up.

The only big piece of news is that my local Suncoast is gone. It's been replaced with a billiard shop. I knew they were cloing several FYE and Suncoast stores. I checked on their website. My location wasn't on the list. I guess their closing was due to something else. Just friggin' grand, I was happy to learn that FYE and Suncoast were one and the same. I could get exclusives from Suncoast. Since there are no FYEs anywhere near me. Now just a memory.

Next week... they call me. Those 2 remastered two disc sets of "Godzilla Raids Again" and "Godzilla Vs. Mothra". Sweet.

I really don't see anything I want here, I'm sensing a trend.

JohnIan

Four.

One of my local Wal-Marts is doing some remodeling. The DVD area was a mess. I couldn't find what I was looking for. But I did see one of the employees get hurt when some shelves fell on him. They were not being used, leaning against something. The guy's ok.

Took home "Tango & Cash" and "Antz" from Circuit City, the latter being a blind purchase. I do have a question. Did it come with an insert? My copy doesn't have one.

Picked up "Freeway" (now in widescreen) for a friend from Best Buy and "Godzilla Raids Again" with "Mothra Vs. Godzilla" for myself. I don't know if your store is doing it, but there was another bar code sticker on the inside of the wrapping; right on the DVD case. I HATE that. I was able to remove it. I'm gonna be watching them later this week.

For whatever reason, Wal-Mart and Circuit City do not have those new Godzilla releases.

And like "Casino Royale", I've bought the gift set for "The Natural" from Best Buy. I have the movie taken out; selling on Ebay. I'm hoping to get $13 for it. The box sells for $24, their website says $19.99. So I printed out the page and took it with me. Yup, got it for that price. In case you're curious the DVD inside does come with the slipcover.

Why sell? For starters I want the store exclusive. And I'm starting to map beyond this month, so I need to make sure I can buy what's coming up. I'm pretty confident in five or six months, this release will show up at a ten dollar sale at Circuit City. The movie is on my list, but it's a low priority. I can wait.

Five

My local Wal-Mart is still remodeling. The DVD area was kinda spartan. I didn't really see much new titles. In fact many of the spots on the isle were empty. But I did strike gold. "Spider-Man 2.1" with bonus DVD ("The Villains Of Spider-Man 3") was out early. It's goes on sale next Tuesday. How naughty of them. They had it, three disc set for $12.88, outstanding deal. And yeah, I'm going to rebuy it from Circuit City for those postcards. The 2.1 doesn't come with any inserts.

While I was there I noticed a $4.88 sale so I picked up "Men In Black: Limited Edition" (it originally sold for $39.95) and "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation" - a blind purchase. As I understand, the later re-release of TCMTNG was full screen only. I'll give that a watch soon.

From Circuit City I picked up "Phantasm". The ad says, poster with purchase. The poster is folded up inside the case. The slipcover has a little sticker on it which reads excluive poster. Oh yeah, for whatever reason, "Phantasm 3" does not have a slipcover. Not a bad haul this week.

By the way, Circuit City didn't have "Phantasm 3", Best Buy did. I'll get that at a later time.

UPDATE

I just noticed something. I was putting stuff away and looked at the receipit from Circuit City. It reads, quote: "Phantasm W/ Exclusive Poster". I wonder.

A few months back they had "Hellyboy Animated: Sword Of Storms" with exclusive poster. I rebought it for the print and a few days later returned the DVD, keeping said poster. If the receipt now says it was sold with store exclusive, then those days are over.

Anyhow. At that price, you have no excuse not to pick up "Firefly" if you don't already own it. Most excellent show. "The O.C.", a heads up. I'm going to buy S4 when it comes out. I'm a fan, not ashamed. But it's been announced that a series box set is in the works for this Fall with an exclusive bonus disc. I already know I'm not going to be able to afford that. But I guess if you can, you might want to wait until this Fall. I'm guessing somewhere in the two hundred dollar range.

And yeah, you should pick up "Veronica Mars" great show. I hope it gets renewed. But not with her as a first year FBI graduate, that's a mistake.

I have the first one, what I need is "Weekend At Bernie’s II". "Chain Reaction" was a decent flick, but it makes me smile. 'What? Keanu discovered cold-fusion? I suppose that could happen.' "The Transporter" is great mindless fun, plot? Who needs it, 'we have lots of action and an Asian girl with an ass to die for.'

It's been out for a few months now, but I finally saw "Transporter 2" last week. Very over the top, but still entertaining. I will probably pick up "Jurassic Park Adventure Pack", I don't think the price is gonna get lower. At least not anytime soon.

Three. Actually four.

Picked up from Wal-Mart "Masters Of Horror: Family" (blind purchase - Meredith Monroe fan). I must be a friggin' idiot, at Best Buy took home their exclusive set for "Smokin' Aces" (also a blind). And from Circuit City, "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" SE and their exclusive for "Spider-Man 2.1" (a repurchase)

I saw the other Best Buy exclusive for "Masters Of Horror: Family", a bonus CD soundtrack. I actually bought volume one off Ebay. I didn't care for the music. More of the same. I passed.

The postcard for "Spider-Man 2.1" are inside the case. The slipcover has a sticker on it saying it has them inside. The extra copy is now on Ebay. By the way, I saw no copies of SM2.1 at my local Wal-Mart, I guess they sold out since they were selling it a week early.

I did look into that SE for "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" it's censored. Grand.

Oh. Picked up that free DVD from Circuit City, a promo disc for Spider-Man 3. Neat.

Answering my Q from last Crawl. My recipt for SM2.1 does not say with exclusive postcards. There you go.

The "Spider-Man 3" promo DVD from Circuit City has as the back cover reads; SM3 movie clips, downloads, game preview and Sony product information. It also has something called "Spider-Man 3: The Story".

I haven't opened it since I got the last one there. And until I have a proper place to store the disc, it remains sealed. Otherwise, I would've posted a screen snap. Sorry.

- - - - - - - - - -

There are two issues of censorship in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit".

1) A mistake or inside joke, depending on what you want to believe (I fall in the latter category). The scene were Miss Rabbit is flung from Benny the Cab. She spins around before getting grounded. For a few frames, facing us; you can see she's pullin' a Paris Hilton - no panties. Some claim error, but then why was her intimate area painted. That would be the case if it weren't for the previous bit. Anyhow, later prints were corrected as it is on the SE DVD.

2) Near the beginning of the feature, Baby Herman storms off the set. As he does, he walks between a woman legs and as he does, he sticks out his middle finger and well... you get the idea. He grazed her lady business. Disney discovered the blatant frames and had them reanimated, the arm is at his side, not raised. Later it was reworked yet again. As it stands now, his arm is up, but no middle finger is pointing.

Yeah, it sucks. The laser disc (http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/835/940-CS/Who-Framed-Roger-Rabbit-(1988)) and VHS editions have those scenes as they originally appeared in the movie. On the bright side, the Baby Herman scene is still in the trailer which is in the two disc set. So, that counts for something.

There you go.

Though this is listed as a DVD on the cardboard sleeve, this is in fact a DVD-ROM. An htm page to open in a browser.

Some interesting stuff on it, but it's really just a scheme to advertise Sony products. I'm not disappointed by it. It is what it is. There you go.

Three, but really four titles bought.

At Best Buy I took home "Night At The Museum" (blind purchase) with their exclusive puzzle. I first thought this was a simple 2D puzzle, which would pretty much blow as an exclusive. No. It's a 3-D puzzle; T-Rex bones. It comes in what appears to be a display case (kinda phallic). I'm not opening it, unless I want a second. Which by the way would cost ten bucks - you can buy it separately.

I did some recon at Circuit City. The dino encyclopedia Britannica CD-ROM is packed inside select DVDs. Look on the slip cover for that sticker. I'm gonna guess a cardboard or paper sleeve. I passed on getting that bonus.

From Wal-Mart I made two more blinds; "Deja Vu" and "Azumi". "Deja Vu" came with an exclusive DVD. And "Azumi" is the two disc edition. It should be noted that for whatever reason, lots of copies of "Night At The Museum" have their slip covers damaged. Second, the bonus book on dinosaurs is only on the single disc copies, should you want it.

I would like to get those Boarders flash cards, but I don't have any stores near my. Though Walden Books is part of the company. My local book seller only has the basic release.

A notice for "Deja Vu". I don't know about your store, but the movie comes in a new DVD case. It's friggin' difficult to remove the disc. I ened up pushing in the holders individually to pry it out. I've since put it in a new case. This thing is BS.

On Sunday night, I'm a night owl. I was getting ready to bed when I turned on the TV (about 1AM). Holy crap, my local station KABC was showing (just started - opening credits), "Up The Creek". Woh. I haven't seen that movie in some fifteen plus years. I'd like to see the original unedited version, but it held up decently, total fluff. It was one of the first films rented when we got our VCR. It needs to come out on DVD, I'd buy it. Hmmm. Whatever happen to Jennifer Runyon?

I noticed this at my Wal-Mart too and wondered what was up with it. It looks like it was a result of roughly slamming them into the shelves they have there (I cringe everytime I see them actually do it). Either way, I don't think there was one slipcover that wasn't severely ripped on the back. Hopefully this isn't the start of a trend.

The problem there is in exchanges.

I do a lot since I tend to find scratched up DVDs. Wal-Mart's exchange/customer service is so lax. They usually don't blink, they could care less.

I did find one slipcover that wasn't damaged, but I had to sift through a bunch of copies.

First off DON'T buy "Trading Places". It's the bare bones release. On June 5th the SE for the movie comes out. Trust me, wait. I really don't see anything I want (or don't already have).

Recommendations: "Garden State" funny and sad, a quirky little flick. "Dog Soldiers" a solid horror movie. If you like "The Descent" you'll like this too - werewolfs. "Clerks II" donkey show, nuff said.

I might rent "Pulse: Unrated" just for Kristen Bell, maybe. "Submerged" ha-ha. "Free Edible Arrangements" sounds like some kind of sex accessory.

Three.

I have to say Circuit City is lossing my faith. *sigh*

My sights were set on three titles, I ended up getting two on my list and a blind buy. First off, I didn't go to Best Buy today. I did however go yesterday (picked up Avril Lavigne 1st album for ten bucks - yes, I'm a bastard).

From Wal-Mart I took home "Dinosaurs: The Complete Third And Fouth Seasons".

I had wanted to pick up "The Girls Next Door: Season Two" from Circuit City. Found it, took it to the counter and they declined my card. Which got me all paranoid. They had trouble reading it and eventually gave up; asking for another. I know for a fact that the card is quite healthy. Then the idea of identity theft popped in my head. Not good.

I then proceeded to buy tiny shit. A soft drink (Sprite - no ice), some onion rings (different joint) and a DVD from Pick N' Save (the blind purchase). No problems. I then returned to Wal-Mart to buy that softcore DVD set. How friggin' odd is that? Playboy being sold at Wal-Mart. Again no problem.

Thank you Circuit City! You know what's the icing? Some might recall a mention that the Sci-Fi section has been neutered. But at least the Horror was alright. NOPE. It too has been shrunk. They moved their CDs into their DVD area and vise versa. In fact I'm getting the impression that they're using the DVD shelfs for their CDs now.

Seaching for movies is now a pain in the ass, they're all piled; one in front of the other. They need to fix that card reader and have better DVD storage for customers.

The other DVD was "Trixie". I don't only anything about it, other than a vauge memory that Roger Ebert didn't care for it.

Oh yeah, the third title was the re-release of "28 Days Later", like something that evaporated into the ether, it ceased to be. Strange.

- - - - - - - - - -

I finally got around to watching "Azumi" and "Deja Vu". Most sway. I really got into "Deja Vu", trying to guess what might be happening next. It's been awhile since I've done that. I have to say that the dubbing in "Azumi" is outstanding. Watching the featurette on it was fascinating. Having the voice actors speak to the time of the screen actor's mouth, it really does made the dubbing very natural. Not like how I used to see foreign movies as a kid. Some good fight scenes in "Azumi" and nice camera work. Yeah, I'll buy the sequel if it too comes out as a special edition.

One. Sort of.

It's a slow selection of DVDs this week. I didn't bother going to Circuit City. Just Best Buy and Wal-Mart.

Since I had no real target this Tuesday. I went for a replacement. I re-bought "Varsity Blues". I have the original 1999 release. It got re-released last year. From time to time I saw some minor pixelation. This is newer and probably better compression.

http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/1549/varsitybluesdvdsca5.th.jpg (http://img99.imageshack.us/my.php?image=varsitybluesdvdsca5.jpg)
Old and new covers

At one point I was considering taking home "The Guns of Navarone", but then I remembered buying "Where Eagles Dare" and being disappointed. This was back in my laser disc days. I paid retail, ended up selling it on Ebay.

At Best Buy I saw that they were selling the two disc SE for "Atlantis: The Lost Empire". Cool. But I'm not paying that price. Maybe it'll go on sale. It's one of those few movies that really deserves to be longer. The trip to the city should've been more.

Oh dear. I'm at Wal-Mart and I see this very attractive girl; shorts and t-shirt. I'm confused. Legal. Not legal. I couldn't tell. It's hard to tell on sight nowadays.

I agree with cocksmokinclerk...It aint illegal to look, but if you have to ask the question then best to just keep on shopping. My advice is to invest in a pair of quality cheap sunglasses; never leave home without them.

As for "Where Eagles Dare", no. Not compression, the LD was pretty clear. The movie just didn't work for me.

I saw "Saving Private Ryan" on TV, once. Never have to see it again. While it might be blasphemy, for me - it was just an OK movie. Very much not equal to the hype.

Looked at my 624 titles; only two war films (ok one): "1941" and "Catch-22".

It aint illegal to look
Indeed.

Man, the girls were much different when I was in high school. Teachers having sex with their students? This would be a bad thing at my school. Ladies that... should not be naked. There would be two exceptions. My English teacher - attractive, but I aways got the impression she was into bondage. Stern, but not over the top. Always in control. The other was my Algebra Summer school teacher. I flunked that class. The only F I've ever earned. She didn't have a car, she rode her bike to school. ALWAYs in these tight fitting spandex biking shorts thingies. I didn't get it at the time. I overheard the girls talking about her, hating her. Why? She was a decent teacher, fair (unlike my later Algebra teacher; I learned it out of fear - her thing was to humiliate you in front of the class). I remember her getting so pissed at us one time. We took a test and everybody did so poorly. Was any of us paying attention to the blackboard? Yes. In that direction... which got diverted to her rear. My first exposure to the bubble butt. Good times.

I see a few I want. A great price to get both "Bourne Identity" flicks. I'll probably get "Casino Royale" too. Maybe "S.W.A.T.". What I wish, but know deep down it isn't; the two disc set for "Glory". Oh yeah - "The Terminator"; don't know which it is. But remember the current version widely found is bare bones. The one before that has all the bonus materials. Check before buying.

Two.

One target, one impulse buy.

First off, EVERYBODY who is selling "Shrek" in sets, be it Wal-Mart with their plush toys or that Circuit City box set have in full screen ONLY. Fuckin' grand! It sucks. We should teach little kids that movies for the most part are meant to be seen in widescreen, period.

From Wal-Mart I took home both of my buys; "The Fountain" (blind purchase) and "Highlander 2: Special Edition". I realize many despise the second film. I paid to see it in the theaters. Main goal reached; I was entertained. I'm not going to defend it much, 'cause it really does screw up the mythology set up in the first movie. I liked it for going in such a different direction, being bold. Oh well. To each their own. Anyhow a good deal for seven bucks.

It is indeed true, the "Shrek" box set at Circuit City is full screen only. Here's what I don't know. The box is big enough to house all three films (including that 3-D one). Is the inside some kind of fold out disc holder or just those three regular DVD cases snugged inside? If the latter, I'd like that box - empty; I'll put in the widescreen editions. It looks nice.

(information from DVD Talk - Speedy1961)

Nope, not for me. "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" is a good flick, should you haven't yet picked it up. "Terminator 3" was the very first DVD I bought.

I know a lot a people hate it. To each... I suppose. For me the biggest thing that bothers me is how folks believe T3 messed up the idea that future could be changed, 'there is no fate, but what we make'. There was no conflict in T3; NOBODY was on watch making sure SkyNet came into being - it's not a single battle, it's ongoing vigilance. Why is anybody surprised Judgement Day happened??? Nobody was making sure Miles Bennet Dyson's data was fully destroyed. That pisses me off.

Two targets, but came home with five (I'm a DVD whore).

Picked up season 5 of "Scrubs" from Wal-Mart. Disc 1 and 3 scratched up. Made one exchange. Disc 1 scratched in the new set. I don't know, I might go to the other Wal-Mart and try again (exchange). I haven't decided.

From Circuit City took home three blind purchases, "One Hour Photo", "S.W.A.T." and "Casino Royale" (1967 film).

Looked about at Best Buy, picked up ad. I did go to Target and picked up the final season (four) of "The O.C." with bonus disc.

http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/521/ocs4bonusfe4.th.jpg (http://img258.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ocs4bonusfe4.jpg)
menu screen

Hmmm. I've only seen three now, but those "Atomic County" webisodes (fourteen of them) are pretty entertaining. The character spoofs are pretty dead-on. Cosmolass' (aka Marissa) power is to get drunk and shoot engery beams (but only when sauced).

http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/9673/ocs4bonus2si7.th.jpg (http://img252.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ocs4bonus2si7.jpg)
L-R: Kid Chino, The Ironist, Cosmolass & Lil' Miss Vixen

The Ironist: "But that's my superpower. My rhetoric is my sword.
Kid Chino: "Being a smartass is not a superpower."

Sway. As I understand (looking about the Net), all the episodes are here. Shiny. Never saw one until today. Too bad there won't be more.

- - - - - -

May 23rd - Update

Made a second exchange. Disc 1 is still scratched, but less. That's it I suppose. At least I was able just to exchange one disc vs. having a full exchange.

Three.

The real number is actually four, but I returned it. I was naughty.

From Best Buy I took home "The Wild Bunch" two disc edition, a blind purchase. I bought it and the other title on the raves of reviews read. Q. My copy does not have an insert/booket. Did it originally come with one?

At Wal-Mart I initially took home two, "The Siege" SE (re-released last week) and "Ali Rap" (Muhammad Ali retrospective). I originally bought AR when it first came out and with the exclusive bonus DVD from Wal-Mart. I recently discovered that the DVD I have is missing its slipcover. It was rebought today and slipcover removed and returned. I'm evil (but not that evil (http://img340.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bozotheclownyc5.jpg)).

I'm home and got curious. No, not pants down. I looked about the Net and returned to Wal-Mart once more. And here I am with "Shanghai Express" SE, my second blind purchase this week.

A side note. When I was there this afternoon the cardboard display rack for "Hannibal Rising" unrated was pretty full. Just a few minutes ago, it was nearly empty.

The Messengers
Bonus DVD with webisodes.

JohnIan
06-06-2007, 03:22 AM
Four, but more like six

Wal-Mart; took home all my titles from there: "Fantastic Voyage" SE, "Trading Places" SE and "Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea" (movie) SE. I've been holding off getting FV since I was hoping it would get the treatment it deserves. Sometimes it pays to wait. Oh yeah, I had to make one exchange each on VTTBOTS and FV. Scratches.

One of the film on my list has been "The Wood". When it was first annouced it was going to have various bonus features, then for whatever reason that got pulled. It's a barebones DVD for $24.96. I passed. But since it's part of that $6.88 sale I got one. Sway.

Circuit City I looked at those lentiuclar Fox editions. Why would anybody buy that re-release of "RoboCop" when in a few months a deluxe edition is coming out? I did look at the steelbook edition of "Platoon". It's the two disc edition. I already own it (transparent slipcover) so I passed.

Best Buy. I had expected to get those two new Godzilla titles; "Ghidorah: The Three-Headed Monster" and "Invasion of Astro-Monster". Nope. They did not have them. I ended up getting those from D2 with that 20% off code. I got a good deal on them, but I'm worried if the discs will arrive damaged/scratched. It happens.

A side note. I've begun noticing sticky inserts. The top and bottom of the left hand page has two sticky surfaces to keep the booklet from opening. I don't like it. I tried to remove it with "Un-Du". Yes it worked, but it also took off the ink on the page! I found out the hard way with "The Siege" insert. I've tired using an adhesive tape to stick off the substance. No luck. It's pretty embedded there.

Ok. My opinion. Samuel L. Jackson made a poor John Shaft. I just coudn't see him as the PI (went to see it on opening day). Now... Laurence Fishburne I could. He would've kicked ass. I wish the TV series would come to DVD. There were seven (two hour long) television movies made in the early '70s; Richard Roundtree reprising his role. I would LOVE that. Though made for TV, that's seven Shafts I've never seen.

Anyhow, I'll probably get "The Manchurian Candidate". Maybe "Wild Things" one and two. Maybe.

Not gonna get into that "Shaft" rant again. I like "Sky Captain" though for whatever reason some REALLY hate it. If you haven't already, pick up "Eddie Murphy: Delirious"; back when Murphy was funny. And of course, "V For Vendetta". Not gonna make a political comment. I'm still waiting for a SE for "Kill Bill". So, not gonna pick those up.

Three titles.

From Wal-Mart I took home "Hellboy Animated: Blood & Iron" and the new "Masters Of Horror: Screwfly Solution" (blind purchase). I'm on the fence on "Ghost Rider", but looking at how much it would cost me for all the exclusives. I decided to pass. I'm not sure if I will like it. I went out of my way on the various exclusives for "V For Vendetta" and "The Da Vinci Code" 'cause I know; it's a given... I'll like them. Not so here.

At Circuit City I bought "The Poseidon Adventure" (original - 2 disc set). You probably saw the post I made, it's going on moratorium; another blind buy. I like the remake. I might like this. Maybe.

Didn't go to Best Buy this week. Didn't see anything I wanted. It's been a 'meh' week. In a couple of days I should be getting those Godzilla DVDs from D2. Looking about I found this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqAhxOczvX8). I need to get that album now.

Updated - 6/14

I had to go to Best Buy to pick up a new hard drive. Looked about. That exclusive book for "Ghost Rider" can be purchased for $5.99.

JohnIan

Two targets. Took home four - only one from the list.

From Wal-Mart I took home Season Three - Volume One of "Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea". Not gonna defend myself. I know what it is. I saw tons of reruns when I was a little kid.

Quote from the back of the box:
"The brainchild of producer/writer/director Irwin Allen, Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea was years ahead of its time, reflecting the key social and political issues of its day..."

What the fuck?! Let me think. This season had the SeaView invaded by various aliens including those evil wind-up toys. And don't forget werewolves too. Plus a ghost. "Key social and political issues" my ass!

Also from Wal-Mart was the re-purchase of a title bought and sold (minus the Best Buy exclusives) some months back; "The Natural: Director's Cut". I'm gland I kept the slipcover. It didn't have it.

Going back to "VTTBOTS"; disc one, side A is scratched. I made one exchange. It's actually worse than the one I originally had. Less deep though. Fox TV DVDs have such a reputation of not having mint sets. At least for me. Dr. Gamma (http://img407.imageshack.us/my.php?image=vttbotscomickt8.jpg)? *head shakes*

From Best Buy I took "The Crow: Miramax/Dimenson Collector's Series". Ten bucks. I might as well. Next month I'm picking up the TV series.

The last place was Circuit City. Some weeks back I bought "Masters Of Horror: Deer Woman" from D2. It arrived scratched and missing its slipcover. I didn't bother making an exchange. About two weeks ago I was over there and saw they had "Deer Woman", but it too was missing the slipcover. Today while looking for something else I saw that they had another copy with the slipcover. Shiny. I took that home.

Ok. My original targets today was "VTTBOTS" and "The Manhattan Project". It's missing. Wal-Mart, Best Buy and Circuit City don't have it. Though Wal-Mart has it listed on it's website. Same with Amazon. Odd. I prefer to find it in store, should I need to make an exchange.

A great deal this week on box sets. If you haven't already, pick up "The Girls Next Door". Uncensored, nude girls doing rather mindless stuff. It's a trainwreck, but so damn fascinating. I might pick up "Virtuosity" if it's the re-release. The original was released in 1999 and had some minor artifact-distortion. An upgrade, like the one I bought for "Varsity Blues". Ohhhh. Yes. If you haven't, do pick up "China Town", it's a true classic. And "Adventures In Babysitting"; it a solid flick. Thor would approve.

There is a box for the upcoming "Live Free... Die Hard" movie. It has a t-shirt, ticket to see the movie and a bonus DVD, various trailers (as I understand).

I'll probably end up getting one.

Three targets today. Took home two.

From Wal-Mart bought "Dead Silence" unrated. That's about it. No real exclusives to mention or anything else that took my fancy.

At Circuit City picked up "Behind The Mask: The Rise Of Leslie Vernon" with bonus disc. This was crap. The store's air condition was either broken or off to save money, it was hotter inside the store than outside. Second, NOBODY was working the registers. I had to go to customer service to find somebody to help me. Where did they all go? Circuit City in San Bernardino, California.

Anyhow... copies of "Behind The Mask" with the bonus disc have a red sticker on the cover that reads "Exclusive Hatchet". The extra DVD is not packaged in an envelope. The DVD case is a 2 disc holder. Nice.

There is no menu on the disc. It has the following trailers and a featurette for "Hatchet". Trailers: "Phantasm", "MOH: Family", "MOH: Right To Die", "MOH: The Screwfly Solution", "H.P. Lovecraft's Re-Animator", "Phantasm 3", "MOH: The Black Cat" and "Hatchet".

The other title not found was "The Last Of The 300" the documentary from the History Channel. Nobody has it. I also couldn't find last week's target, "The Manhattan Project".

- - - - - - - - - -

On Sunday I finally saw "The Crow". I lke it. But I was under the impression it was the full package. Not the case. There are various deleted scenes not in the two disc special edition. I downloaded a clip off YouTube. Ok. Who and what is the Skull Cowboy? I'm fuzzy. I have to say Bai Ling was more attractive when she she didn't loose that baby fat. I don't usually say that.

The Skull Cowboy is Eric Dravens guardian angel of a sort, instead of just automatically assuming the crow gives him the special powers he gets his information from Cowboy. He also tells him when its time to move on back to the underworld.

i have to say i was pleasantly surprised blind-buying "Shooter" tuesday. pretty entertaining action yarn....but i was even happier when i got the Bonus Disc from circuit city...

bonus disc..it says length around 38 minutes...but thats a mistake as the entire length of all bonus features comes out to almost 50 minutes

theres a cool featurette on one of Shooter's main sniper rifles, and an Unscripted with Fuqua and Wahlberg which is pretty entertaining....
but the best is the 30 minute featurette on probably America's greatest/prolific sniper, Carlos Hathcock......wow!

all in all pretty good buy-with-bonus for $15.99

I had to go to customer service to find somebody to help me. Where did they all go? Circuit City in San Bernardino, California.

same thing with me everytime i go to circuitcity nobody ever works the registers, nobody is in the right department where they are supposed to be theyre goofing off in the front of the store and the only people actually working are the ones in customer service (everytime i go there i have to pay at customer service)

behing the mask (ive heard good things)

I'll be watching that this weekend along with "Dead Silence".

Thank for the explanation NuclearMisfit. There should be a better deluxe edition with the remaining deleted scenes and a solid featurette/documentary of the work they had to do to put Lee back in the film after he was died.

We've been trying to get those deleted scenes properly put on a DVD for forever. There is footage of the Skull Cowboy on the disc, but for the life of me I can't remember what it's under. It's some kind of montage.

This is according to DVD Verdict:

If you'll recall, a couple weeks ago on the daily update I said that I might not have purchased this disc if I had known this information. Over at right, you'll find a link to an article at David Schow's website. In it, he details some of the behind-the-scenes shenanigans that went into the making of this disc. Jeff Most was a producer on all three of the Crow films that have been released. At the time the DVD was in the works, he was trying to get a fourth movie off the ground. Of course, you must also keep in mind that The Crow: Salvation, the third film, tanked in its test run in Spokane, Washington, and did not see a wide theatrical release. According to Schow, Jeff Most cried like a schoolgirl that he was not given much credit in the materials that had been prepared for The Crow, namely the making-of featurette; a commentary track recorded by Alex Proyas, production designer Alex McDowell, cinematographer Dariusz Wolski, art director Simon Murton, and Schow; and a 90-minute behind-the-scenes video recorded on set by Schow. Proyas had been promised by Miramax final approval on the materials for the DVD, but on the other hand they wanted to placate Most and keep his involvement with the planned fourth movie (why, after The Crow: City of Angels, I have no idea). So, Proyas got the shaft, to put it indelicately, while Miramax kept Most happy. A third of the making-of featurette was omitted—the parts with Proyas and Schow—and all the other stuff was left out of the set. After the contents of the DVD were locked in, the third movie tanked and plans were canceled for the fourth movie (which would have starred rapper DMX). It was all for naught.

So, what does this mean? We get a DVD set that not only does not have the endorsement of the very talented director, but it's also one that is not as complete as it might be. To make matters worse, there's the rumor that the Canadian company Alliance Entertainment will be making a Canadian version of the set with all the rest of the extras included. Alliance has worked with Buena Vista in the past; they produced DVDs of eXistenZ and Pulp Fiction with more extras than their U.S. counterparts, and they released a DVD of Heavenly Creatures, while Miramax did not make a release for U.S. audiences. That means that there might be some truth to the rumor. Should you wait for it? That's for you to decide. The U.S. Collector's Edition is sparse for a two-disc set, but on the other hand the audio and video presentation cannot be surpassed.

[Follow-Up: David Schow graciously emailed me after reading this review. He informed me that Three Legged Cat Productions, which had produced the excluded extra material, had not been approached by Alliance for rights to the material. Apparently, for Crow fans, it's this DVD set or nothing.]

Zero targets. But took home two anyway. I'm a bastard.

It's a shitty week. Nothing of interest and too damn hot. Today was 105, o' fun.

Knowing I had nothing listed, a thought popped in my noggin' so I did that today. I own the theatrical remake of "The Poseidon Adventure"; liked it. Since it went on moratorium last month, I picked up the two disc SE for the original from Ross for seven bucks. I figure I might as well complete my set and buy the television remake from 2006. That I did - seven bucks too. I picked that up from Circuit City. It reads that the release has forty minutes of newly restored footage (and widescreen), could be cool. Maybe. This time the store had it's air conditon on. Good. Still NOBODY to help. Once again to customer service. This is a new low for that store. Grand.

Looking about for a fan at Wal-Mart I browsed the five dollar bin. This and that; mostly that (...crap). But I did see something of interest, "Wonderland" (two disc SE). Hmmm. I heard this movie was coming out then nothing. It was a surprise to see it and see it there. It came with its slipcover. Five bucks, a good price. That's about it this week. I did pick up that fan and a novelty portable fan (http://www.preparedness.com/o2bapoflfast.html) ($14.99 my ass, I bought mine for three bucks - the fan's neck is kinda phallic). But I do have a story to tell; a high definition tale...

While I was looking though the bin there was a mother and her child. The kid wanted a movie, but as kids tend to be could not make up his mind (at one moment "A Shark's Tale", the next "X-Men"; too many options for his head). There is a new rack in the store, the high definition titles, Blu-Ray and HD. The kid had pick up one of those movies and showed it to his mom. The woman looked at it and say no. Not the obvious reason, she said and I quote: "No, that's not the movie, that's the soundtrack". As many of you know, the new format has a different disc case (and color too). There you go, average middle America still is clueless of the two new formats.

Had one target this day, but took home three (well, two actually).

I only went to Best Buy and Wal-Mart today. It's a slow release day. While doing recon at Best Buy I discovered that the two disc special edition for "Atlantis: The Lost Empire" has been re-released. Now in a standard DVD case (two disc holder). I gave it a shake, I hear the tray, but that's about it. This got me concerned. As many who haunt this messageboard knows I'm a collector not simply a movie fan.

I want my titles complete and that means with their booklets/inserts. I dropped purchasing "The Astronaut Farmer" to pick up a copy of the original release, this being in the alpha DVD case. A good shake revealed it indeed has inserts. The store had two copies of this edition, I'm glad it did. The one I bought was damaged; disc two was scratched up. One exchange - mint.

My opinion has not changed. I saw this movie on opening day at the theaters. It's far too short. This is very much a roadtrip kind of movie, the voyage there is just as important as the destination; if not more. The were too quick to reach the fable city. A mini-series would do it justice. Plus I wanted to see A LOT more of the submarine. It's so friggin' colossus - using 1914 technology. How cool is that? I wanna to see something like that in a big budget movie about... Cthulu (please let not-Cloverfield be a Lovecraftian flick).

From Wal-Mart I found in the five dollar bin three copies of the two disc SE for "Escape From New York". One copy was crushed, but the other two were good. I bought both, since I already own it; I'm gonna sell them on Ebay. My goal is to make enough to recoup my ten dollar investment and have enough left over to order a USB fan (http://usb.brando.com.hk/prod_detail.php?prod_id=00278&dept_id=015&cat_id=049). Fancy.

I was going to get into a rant about director Victor Salva; Circuit City has a two pack sale (ten dollars) for his films "Jeeper Creepers" and its sequel, "Jeepers Creepers 2". Salva is a convicted child molester (video taped himself in the act). I got too angry and tired; yelling at the laptop monitor. So I won't. Anyhow, don't buy his movies. He got three years for his acts and got out fifteen months later. *sigh*

I should mention that the limited edition box set (in a crate) for "Land Of The Giants". Cool bonus stuff, but NOT at that price... $169.99. Beyond my reach, period. From the $5.99 sale I'm gonna be picking up "Reign Of Fire". I saw it in the theaters. I know a lot of people hate it, but I was entertained. My favortite moment is the storytelling to the kids - Empire Strikes Back. The expression on the tikes when it was revealed that Vader was Luke's father; priceless. If you haven't picked up "Equilibrium" you should, end of story. "The Riddick Trilogy" is good sci-fi popcorn fun; people were expecting FAR too much from it. It is what it is. And yeah, I'll be picking up "The Bourne Files".

A word of caution. A better version of "Serenity" in coming. All the extras from this edition will carry over. Indeed.

One - blind.

I didn't see any reason to go to either Best Buy or Circuit City, so I only went to Wal-Mart.

What I took home was from the $5.00 bin. They had a massive pile of new stuff. But lets be honest. 95% of that is pure crap. I sorted through the load and found something I'm curious about.

This movie being "A Sound Of Thunder". The reviews were pretty negative. I'll find out soon enough if it's true. That's it, no real observations. Unless you count seeing obese ladies in clothes that magnify their... largeness. But that's a normal thing at Wal-Mart.

- - - - - - - - - - -

I did find out something. On August 28th, "Ski School" comes out on DVD. It's a very stupid movie, but I like it. I have it on laser disc, this would be an upgrade. It'll be in widescreen. The sequel (not as good) "Ski School 2" is already out for some years - and only in full screen. Anyhow, I probably need to pick up "Hot Dog: The Movie". As I recall "Out Cold" was filmed as an R, but got released as PG-13. They never released the full version.

Bratz: Sleep-Over Adventure
Exclsuive bonus disc, "Bratz" movie sneak peek.

300: 2 DVD Deluxe Edition
I'm fuzzy on this. But it appears to be download option, download the movie to a device and with a making of featurette. But there might be a bonus DVD with that on it. Three disc set???

Here we go. I'll be checking that exclusive (300, not "Bratz").

Damn.

It was a friggin' hot day. HOT and humid. There was a warning today (here) for a flash flood. Grand. It didn't happen - as far as I know. When I got home I noticed I got a tan. *sigh*

First off a PSA. I found out I had a can. You should check your pantry. Unless you want botulism (http://www.castleberrys.com/news_productrecall.asp). A plant in Augusta, GA was closed down. The can was "Kroger - Chili No Beans", I returned it to Food 4 Less for a refund. The thing is last week I had two cans. I opened one and it didn't look right, so very watery, the meat looked grey, not the normal color. I decided to pass and trash it. I'm so gland I did. I didn't find out about this until yesterday, the recall. How things might have gone?

I had an expensive day. Granted next week might be as expensive.

Store one. At Wal-Mart I picked up "The Bourne Files" with bonus DVD and the two disc SE for "The Host", a blind buy. I was looking for "The Crow: Stairway To Heaven - The Complete Series", no such luck. Neither was for "The Monster Squad". But I did see an empy space for it. I asked and was told they didn't receive it. I opted to go to another Wal-Mart, yup there it was. Now we need is a special edition for "Night Of The Creeps". I had one exchange for "The Host", disc two was scratched. This is the second this happened, the clerk used my DVD as a clipboard. Friggin' grand. Anyway, the bonus DVD is on the back of "The Bourne Files".

Wal-Mart's bonus DVD and its menu screen

From Target I picked up the season two box for "Weeds" with their exclusive. First off a warning. I bought it, took it to the car to inspect. Removed the plastic and opened it up. WTF? There was plastic dust/debris; the plastic equivalent of saw dust. EVERYWHERE. I had to get out of car and dust off. I took out the discs and wiped them clean (both DVDs were mint) and clean out the case. I don't know what happened, if I was just very unfortunate or if others had the same glitter bomb. If we could just now get them to re-release season one in widescreen. Anyhow, the exclusive. MovieVVhore it's a sample booklet (48 pages) from a larger book by Kera Bolonik. It's ok. The store had four copies, now three. The booklet comes inside the case. I forgot to look for "The Crow" there.

Target's bonus booklet

At Best Buy I took home "Todd McFarlanes' Spawn: The Animated Collection" (tin case). Nice looking, but the disc holders are a pain. I'm getting close to hyper-extending the DVDs to get them out. And NOT letting go, so I've hurt my fingers; at that tight they feel like blades. The holder extend are well beyond the discs. The case came with an insert - advertisement. It got crushed and poked/ripped from the holders when closed. The store exclusive comic book is sealed with the tin, on the back. I looked for "The Crow", but they didn't have it, nor could they help me. They're system had crashed. I did however learn something while looking for that box set. The Business: Season One (http://www.amazon.com/The-Business/dp/B000P6R9OO/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/103-1694768-9044643?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1185344090&sr=1-1), it came out last week and has a Best Buy exclusive, a bonus disc with two episodes from season two. I never heard of it, but now I'm curious. I would've picked it up, but my other (last) target was "The Crow'.

Best Buy's exclusive comic book

The last place I visited was Circuit City, I asked for help and indeed they had just one copy of "The Crow". I'm SOOL if it's scratched. Nope, the TV Guide DVD set was mint and has a nice set of extras. Sites are listing the box as a four disc set, not true - it's five DVDs. Very sway collection. Now I'll finally get to see the last episode, I missed it.

Hey Johnlan,

I can't find the bonus discs for Zodiac and the Bourne Files on Wal-mart's site. Are the trailers the only thing on Bourne's bonus disc? And, the "Dexter episodes," are these related to the Zodiac movie at all?

You have to go to the store(s). Sorry. As for the second part of your Q, nope; not as far as I know. They just slapped one killer onto the other.

Sorry. You had three question. The screen shot tells it all. To be honest it's a weak bonus disc.

Woh. Someone is getting rid of inventory. First off if you don't already own "Brick" you really should. Excellent noir flick in a high school setting. I'm curious about "Cruel Intentions 2" the DVD was re-released in full screen only. I will say this, I will be getting me some "Dick". It's a stupid little flick that should've had a better box-office. If only "Weekend At Bernie’s II" was on that list, I'd have my set complete. C'mon you know you like it!
