It appears that the money has been moved in the president’s budget to handle homeland security and the war in Iraq, and I suppose that’s the price we pay. Nobody locally is happy that the levees can’t be finished, and we are doing everything we can to make the case that this is a security issue for us.

And now they have their security issue.

All this money that they're allocating to "homeland scurity" is virtually useless when you consider that we still have wide open borders with Canada and Mexico. If they were really so concerned about terrorists infiltrating into this country than don't you think they'd consider making the borders more secure? I live in Arizona and can tell you that drugs and illegal immigrants still flow freely from Mexico into the US.
And now it appears that by allocating this money into making us all "safe" (more like trying to make us scared) that several things have gone by the wayside that are only now coming to light. If I lived in New Orleans I would be seething at Bush and his administration's incredibly shortsighted policies right about now.

The problem is that their are two types of republicans when it comes to this issue. One is the Pro-business/cheap labor republican and the other is the anti-illegal immigrant republican. The democrats aren't really to worried about the illegals because they eventually vote for them.
I don't see this problem being resolved with this current administration. We will have to wait for a candidate to make "secure borders" his/her platform before it gets taken care of.
