Every song here, save for The Grand Conjuration, is fucking magnificent. "Ghost of Perdition", "Reverie/Harlequin Forest" and "The Baying of the Hounds" are works of art. There's no stopping these guys when it comes to putting out amazing records consistently nearly every year since 1995. This CD is brutal and beautiful and better than whatever you're listening to.

Pretty much my thoughts save for the fact that I think "Atonement" is the really weak track. This has to be one of their best albums honestly. "Reverie / Harlequin Forest" is just fucking incredible. One of my favorite Opeth songs ever and one of the best songs of the year.

I agree with Frank that "Atonement" is inadequate. I didn't care for "The Grand Conjuration" at first, but it fits within the context of the album. Ghost Reveries is Still Life, Blackwater Park, and Deliverance combined. They've expanded their repertoire, which I didn't think was possible. Mike Akerfeldt's vocals just keep getting better and better. His soulful delivery on "Hours of Wealth" is impeccable. "Ghost of Perdition" is probably my favorite song. It's reminiscent of "The Moor," and it's never, ever boring. The offbeat "Beneath the Mire" is worth mentioning. The first couple of minutes don't even sound like Opeth.
They've done it again! Listen to Ghost Reveries back to back with Orchid. It's amazing how much they've evolved while retaining their core elements. They've never subtracted from their style; they've only added to it and built upon a sturdy foundation.
