Anyone other younger people love this film as much as I do?

It's not dated at all in my view. Sure, the soundtrack, the hair styles, the clothing and the references to Vietnam make you know it is a 1970s movie you are watching but that's about it.

But if Hollywood were to ever remake it and make the music, the hair styles and the clothes more modern, and replace references to Vietnam to references to Iraq, the script for Taxi Driver would not have to be changed much at all.

Although I doubt a remake could ever happen since the story also includes a 12-year old hooker and many people would frown on that today since live in VERY PC times.

They'd probably have to make the Iris character a little older. Like 16. But that would not be the same.

That's what makes Bickle into a hero in my view. Yeah, he is mentally disturbed. But he is also trying to save a little girl from a bunch of pedophiles.

And him saving a teenage girl would not be the same since teens are not as gullible as someone who is 12.

And if Iris was made like 16.....well since Bickle is 26, they would probably have some romantic relationship go on between them and that would take away from the innocence that Bickle and Iris's friendship had.

Don't get the wrong idea. I hope Taxi Driver is NEVER remade. No one can play the Travis Bickle character better then Robert De Niro.

I just wish more young people appreciated Taxi Driver and it seems a remake is the only way to get the casual high school and college students more interested in Taxi Driver since it is consider uncool to like the same music or movies your parents like.

I believe the story in Taxi Driver is a generally good story and one that can teach a good lesson for people and not enough young folks know about it.

People who could play Travis Bickle:

Christian Bale, Tobey Maguire, Cillian Murphy, Colin Farrell, Topher Grace, Ashton Kutcher, Wes Bentley, Ben Foster, Jake Gyllenhaal or Shane West.

My vote would be for Ben Foster myself. I am a huge fan of his and he plays the parts of disturbed young man very well in my opinion. See Bang, Bang, You're Dead and/or Hostage if you want proof.

I know plenty of kids at my school (I'm a soph in high school) who've seen and liked Taxi Driver, in fact, I can't think of any that didn't like it. What would be good is to see kids digging on old movies that aren't all violent and angst-filled, not that I'm complaining when kids my age like A Clockwork Orange and Taxi Driver, but I'd be more impressed to hear them give the same praise to Nashville, or some other movie that's less violent.

Taxi Driver is an American classic. It showed the Timothy McViegh/Unabomber mindset way before these kinds of things were part of the media culture. It has one of the best climaxes in film-- period. Any feeble attempt at remaking this film will suck.

Certain movies I do not mind being remade. Anything horror being remade is fine with me. Shitty sports/comedy movies are fine too. But do not take a classic like this and give it and MTV generation update. I would actually blow up every Hollywood studio (like in Fight Club) if I ever hear of something like this being remade. Taxi Driver, The Godfather, Scarface, Deerhunter and the likes should never be remade and anyone thinking of doing it should be tortured. In fact anything with Deniro, Pacino, Christopher Walken, or Dustin Hoffman should never be remade because it will not get any better.

I hope a remake never happens. Was just thinking "what if".

"What if Taxi Driver was remade?"

It would not be the Taxi Driver we have come to know and love. It certainly wouldn't be the character study that is. It be more of a political statment toward Iraq, one the particularly wouldn't be very subtle at all. It also would be mind-thumbingly action packed, proobably with an outrageous Taxi car chase.

If Hollywood wants to remake movies, they should remake bad movies into good ones. There's got to be a couple out there. I myself want to remake AVP and Van Helsing if I ever get the chance.

I too got the impression that this film could slide into any time period of American culture with ease. It didn't feel dated at all.

I'm glad no one here wants it remade...TRAVESTY:eek:

I concur.

There is no need for a remake of Taxi Driver. And it definately looks like it's also unwanted as well.

So, what you're saying is that it's awfully dated?

Um, some of those are really far fetched. To even think they could play something the way De Niro could is nothing short of blasphemy. I'd definitely shoot myself if Ashton Kutcher was ever even considered to play Bickle.
