MTV Films has acquired film rights to action-horror videogame The Suffering from Sumner Redstone-owned Midway Games, reports Variety.

The game put players in the shoes of Torque, a man who was on death row in the first game when all hell literally broke loose and monstrous creatures invaded the island where his prison was located. The sequel sends Torque to Baltimore and involves a secret government organization and the nefarious Caleb Blackmore, the man behind the death of Torque's family. One of the unique elements of the game is the player's ability to enter a rage mode and transform into a hulking beast that can take out multiple enemies in a short amount of time.

The film will tie in elements from both games and create an original story, said Steve Allison, Midway's chief marketing officer.

Mtv is smart by slapping there logo on this film and picking up a popular video games rights and making it into a movie.

Teens are stupid because they think mtv is cool and see it even though it sucks and so will fans of the game which in about 6 years when u walk by Best Buy you see a Trilogy set of The Suffering for 15 bucks.

I enjoyed the game the first time I played, but I could never get back into it. After a while its not the surprising.

A movie about supernatuarl beings taking over a prison wouldn't be terrible, especially with the amneisiac hero with disturbing falshbacks. the bad guys were kinda cool too. There were two main ghosts who were based off different forms of execution (gas and electricity).

MTV isnt too appealing though. Not all movies with the MTV logo suck (orange county), but it doesnt exactly bring up confidence.

Man could you have a better premise for a horror than a hellacious take over of a jail? Man it could have been awsome if they do it right.... but you see they made their first mistake by letting MTV buy the movie rights.... BOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Ohh well another game to movie gone to shit.... My hopes are still up for HALO and Splinter Cell....hell even Rainbow Six!

Unbelievable.
How many succesful "video game" movies have been good?

Mortal Kombat? (I mean GOOD like in acting and story)
Super Mario Brothers?
House of the Dead (That movie f**king sucked! George A Romero should bitch slap the director, the actors, AND the studio that created it.)

Leave it up to MTV. They've got not a clue, Schmoes.
I played The Suffering, I though it was okay.
A whole movie about it?

Motherf**ker please.
