It's sad when you see a group with potential ruin themselves. Animal Collective was somewhat popular before this album was released in 2004, but now they have gotten popular by a large amount from this album.

Why do I say that they ruin themselves? There are two sides to this album. A higher, upbeat side and a softer side. When they are upbeat, they completely dominate everything. Who Could Win A Rabbit and We Tigers are damn good, among a few other tracks (Winters Love, Kids on Holiday, Leaf House). Their problem comes in a few tracks. The Softest Voice is torture to sit through, and Visiting Friends is even worse. Of course, these tracks are the longest ones on the album, visiting friends being the longest track at 12 minutes. These are just terrible, and the final three tracks are very average (Mouth Wooed Her being the worst of them, especially with the annoying 'Mouth WATER' repeated over and over). I think that if they kept working on the more upbeat songs they would become a giant force to be reckoned with in music.

I'm worried about their new album, since most of the stuff I have heard from it is very annoying (mainly due to the vocals, which I loathe). But anyways, what do you think about the album?

I completely disagree. My favorite songs on the album are the downbeat ones. I love them. They make the album for me. The Softest Voice is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. The whole album, upbeat and downbeat, adds up to a definite statement on man and his place in nature. The downbeat songs (particularly Visiting Friends and Softest Voice) are the ones that give dimension to the album, the ones that turn it from some hippies singing around in a campfire to an ethereal, primal thing. AT LEAST I THINK SO.
