Since I have a shitty car and no CD player I have to still record CDs onto cassette tapes and then listen to those while in my car(Yes I kick it old school...still don't own a cell phone either). Lately I have been gathering all kinds of music(especially classic rock bands) and am compiling awesome mix tapes of classic rock songs...I'm going from the 60's through to the present. Here is the first two I made...(I use 120 minute tapes 60/60 so that way I can cram on as much music as possible).

Now some bands span over multiple era's and decades(I use them on multiple tapes) so I'll specify which era...and some songs I have to leave out because of time constraints(I'll mention which ones)

Yeah, those and some Grateful Dead. And some Allman Brothers, some FRANK ZAPPA (if you're into him, that is, which isn't necessarily the case), James Brown, a touch of the Kinks, Simon & Garfunkel, Santana, and some amateurs with a shitty drummer who went by the name, "THE WHO." I know this is way too much to fit on your two tapes, just suggestions if you were to make more. 'Twould be easy indeed to make a tape for each YEAR of the sixties, and still have everything be essential.

Yeah you mention some good ones there, but like you said that is a lot to fit onto one 120 minute tape...By the way if you notice I do have The Who on there and I will have some more from them on my upcoming 70's tape.

Captain Beefheart And The Magic Band - China Pig
Captain Beefheart And The Magic Band - The Blimp
Johnny Cash - Going To Memphis

Yeah, Johnny Cash'd be good, but I think Captain Beefheart (GENIUS that he is) and King Crimson are a bit too off the radar screen (or at least were in the sixties) to put on. I base this on the assumption that Puck's trying to create a sort of "spirit of the sixties", nostalgic album, as opposed to making a tape of simply the best music of the sixties, in which case the Seņor Van Vliet and King Crimson and ESPECIALLY Miles Davis would apply. Good to see that some other people on here listen to jazz, too.

Bluesbrother you are grasping what I am trying to do with this...I am making tapes with themes/spirit. All this music was way before my time...I was a teen in the 90's! So I am still discovering a lot of this music from the era so bare that in mind. I appreciate all the suggestions and am always willing to expand my musical tastes, but a lot of the artists you and others mentioned I just don't know their music or are not familiar with them. Of course I know who Johnny Cash was and in regards to Miles Davis I am not a jazz enthusiast per se but I do love the jazz influence in some of the music I do like...huge fan of horns(especially in reggae, ska and swing music)...and in fact I'm a big fan of two Female Jazz vocalists in Billie Holiday and Anita O'Day.

I was a wee lad listening to Raffi in the 90's. :D

Just to avoid misunderstanding, Miles Davis's late sixties stuff (from about '67 onward) is FUSION, which is, technically, rock, in terms of rhythm structure. It's only called jazz because it's basically all improvisation on top of the set rhythm, and improvisation is waht makes jazz jazz. So, even if you're not into traditional jazz (bebop, swing, Dixieland, etc.), you might like some of the fusion. And if you're into jazz singers, I suggest you try out Ella Fitzgerald if you already haven't, she's my favorite. :)
