A 'BOXING" QUESTION

Hey, I didnt get any luck on this question in the General Movie Talk Forum so I thought I'd post a rhetorical here:

In Million Dollar Baby, Maggie's competitor was told if she 'pulled any more of that', she'd be disqualified-I guess referring to her illegal shots after the bell rang etc.

Possible Spoilers:
Anyway, after the final round, the bell rang, the stool was out and Maggie turned around to smile at her trainer. Her competitor hit her (a cheap shot), knocking Maggie down into the stool etc. So, would she be disqualified and Maggie granted the title or not? In the movie, she wasnt. I thought that was sadly overlooked. But, there may be some rules to boxing I'm not familiar with which is why I posted this here.:cool:

It's all ultimely up to the judges decision. If the judge choses not to disqualify the cheat, then the foul goes, I guess. It's just like in every other sport. I hope that answers your question.

Actually it depends in what state you're fighting in because every state has their own boxing commission. However, most states leave it up to the ref to make that call. The judges' only concern is to score the bout.

As for your question, I wondered about that myself.
