Wow- I just heard Elijah Cummings (D- rep from Maryland) from the Black caucus, actually say that he liked what Bush said tonight and he has high hopes for the future. It was a nice moment. I'd like to see more untiy so the rebuilding can be done wtih good spirits.

It was a good speech.

I was just mostly happy because I saw that Bush got the point about why he was viewed as racist, and he addressed it in 'smart' words. That was like a fucking moment of redemption for me and more importantly many many blacks who are pissed because they are saying there's injustices (which are mostly economic, but maybe they don't get that) -- Yeah, that was cool on his part. For the first time I felt like it was being addressed - Okay, it's not all right. When people who feel things aren't right are being ignored, it's a crime against humanity, morality and so many things that are good.

I was underwhelmed with the budget for the rebuilding. He could have given Halliburton a no-bid contract or something. Haha. Just half goofing with that, but I thought the destruction was much more than that. We just really weren't prepared for it. We need another surplus. I would give up my tax breaks for this year so we could have disaster funds and other things.

There were a few moments that were classic Bush, like him lighting up when he said "Habitat for Humanity" -- That was pretty cool seeing him loose for a bit, because I like that characteristic about him. Some people make fun of it - call it infantile, like a baby seeing a shiny object, but I think it's pretty genuine and I get like that sometimes myself so I understand how it is for him.

I also was glad to hear him make the comparison to 9/11 and mention that we were unprepared and should have learned more from that.

The man has always impressed me with his politics, and tonight he played everything well. He saw past the bullshit and spoke to as many people as possible, and was just pretty cool.

I still think there should be impeachment trials though. Lots of people have gotten much worse for doing much less. I think Bush is up for the challenge and would pull through and finish his term.

I don't agree with the impeachment trials over Iraq. We all know that Bush was not the mastermind, but if anything....the patsy. That said, he should admit we fucked up there too.

The thing is, if he starts being humble, I don't think he'll be as disliked. Showing some humility, admiting that they were wrong, people get that.

Restructuring strategies don't appear out of nowhere. The Marshall Plan took two years to come about after WWII ended.

I did not expect Bush to just leap out of nowhere but his timing just awfully off eh?

Yeah, he didn't have a plan until now, but how hard is it to take 20 minutes on national TV, make an address, just to say "It's going to be alright. We are working on it, and we are concerned."

You know - Like he did the day after September 11th. Bush said they should have learned more from that day, but this is one of the things I think wasn't learned. People need to hear it's going to be all good again.

I trully believe things would have been more civil had the President not left the people 'hanging' --- It was important for him to appease people the day after 9.11 - he didn't have a plan then (well, everyone has their own opinion on that....) --- But he did the speech because he knew the people were freaked out and scared and they needed to hear that things were going to be right.
