only seeing 30 minutes of it. I have a friend who only gives movies 30-45 minute. If it doesn't grab his attention by then. He turns it off. How ever he still reviews the movie like he has seen it. making comments and saying the movie sucked. I have told him several times that if you have only seen 30 minutes of the movie you have no right in saying whether you liked or disliked it. What do you all think?

in some cases, yes, i think you can....generally if i sit down and flip to a film on tv if it hasnt at all interested me withing the first 20 minutes ill change to something else and rate it based on what i saw. although sometimes i might give it a bit longer but if it doesnt interest me, it doesnt interest me and i cant see the point of watching it all

i am of the mindset of... at least watch the whole thing so you can judge it... who knows what that finale will hold?!
BUT
i can def see how if you invest 30-45 minutes of your time, and the movie just sucks, you turn it off and say it sucked!
CASE IN POINT:
the movie TORQUE... i was only able to watch about 20-30 minutes of that flick... have never finished it... never plan on it... and am comfertable in saying that is one of the worst flicks i have ever seen!

Casually: Yes it's fine.
If you really do want to review it for other people to see: See the whole thing then critique it.

Oh, man, then you missed the part where it turned into an animated musical parody of blaxploitation movies. And then when the giant robots showed up... awesome! But that was before the motorcycles became self aware and traveled back in time to help crucify Jesus. Then everyone drowned in Mountain Dew. Kind of a downer ending. Otherwise 10/10

I couldn't even give TORQUE that much of my time.
Life is too precious to waste. Know what I'm saying?
ON TOPIC:
To give a review, you must watch THE ENTIRE film.
To give an opinion, watch what you can stand.

I think it's possible to know whether or not you'll like a movie based solely on the trailers only...

I'm wondering how his reviews go; does he say the movie sucks or just the beginning? Does he mention the ending at all? I've got no problem with him saying the movie sucked after only watching a bit of it, but I kinda want to know, most of the time, how the ending fits and character development and some of that stuff.

I guesst that is the part that I forgot to put in. He very rarely says that he hasn't seen all the movie. He basically reviews the movie like he has seen it. Since I have known him for a long time I ask now how much he has seen. But before I don't know.

We're talking about the best movie of the year, right?
I'm not kidding this time.
I thought the Stealth trailer was good at keeping the plot in check. Flightplan on the other hand... or The Italian Job - entire movie condensed to two minutes.
There have been few movies I couldn't sit through. One of them was Keeping the Faith, which is to this day the only movie I walked out of. At about half way through, I knew it couldn't possibly get any better (save for giant robots). But when I think of the worst movies I've ever seen, I never include that one since I didn't finish it.
What I think is just as bad as this is people who watch movies at home and do other shit the whole time, like cook dinner, talk on the phone, etc. and then say they thought the movie was bad. Or "confusing."

I dunno, I watched The Eye 2 the other day and for about 35 minutes I was bored out of my mind but after that it began to get interesting and grabbed my attension till the end.

I decided to keep going through with Hollywood Homicide after thje first 30 minutes. The ending was spectacular. Great chase sequence. It changed my whole review. They say a great ending can svae the whole movie. i watched it again and hated it.
Just saying there are strange circumstances sometimes.

I gave Napoleon Dynamite 60 minutes. I think it was 55 too many.

I can never sit through Until the End of the World without turning it off over halfway through. I've tried, dear God, have I tried, but it's such a dull film, filled to the brim with good intentions. The worst movies have the best intentions but end up failing miserably.
My first experience with Wenders' dud was when I was nine, and I didn't understand what the hell it was all about. Flash forward years later, and I still can't get into it. Believe me, I've watched Tarkovsky's Andrei Rublev, and I've been witness to Russian Ark, and I could watch those films in one sitting without pressing the "off" button.

It was the same way for me too!
I gave up on The Negotiator after 45 minutes but decided to give it a second chance and I ended up liking it.

30-45 minutes of viewing is deinatly enough time to tell if a movie sucks or not.
But as for writing a long review, no its not enough. I've seen movies where the last 20 minutes turned the movie around a little and it went from 1 star to 2 or sometihing.
