Confirmed Spider-Man 3 villians

During an interview this weekend promoting Elizabethtown, Kirsten Dunst confirmed rumors to Zap2it that Thomas Haden Church will play Sandman and Topher Grace is Venom in director Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3, opening in theaters on May 4, 2007.

"We have really great people though as the villains in this film, Thomas Haden Church and Topher Grace -- Venom and Sandman," said Dunst, who plays Mary Jane Watson in the Spidey films.

"Maybe I wasn't supposed to say that," she added before reversing her claim. "It's the other way around. You're right," she conceded to a journalist.

Dunst has yet to receive a script for the third film that will begin shooting in January. "But I know the general story. There's a lot that they're trying to fit into this one."

Well i mean this leaked out months ago but yeah, being confirmed its good to know that Raimi's Venom is definatly gonna be something speical.

I would be better if Venom was the only villain in the movie. But anyways that's very good news.
If Venom and Sandman fight with each other in some point in the movie i could be awesome.

Personally, I think that Raimi should have kept Venom out of the Spiderman movies until the second last or the last, as Venom is a character that fanboys yearn to see - Raimi could have used other villains that are equally cool, such as Rhino, or Chameleon....don't get me wrong, seeing Venom will be cool, but using him in the 3rd out of 6 reported movies almost seems like jumping the gun, or frivilous. Sandman will be great to see for sure, honestly, Black Cat would have been a better addition than Venom.

I don't care if they got the sexiest woman on the planet (insert female's name here) I protest the Black Cat in ANY of the Spider Man movies.
I'd rather see Silver Sable, Black Widow, Gwen Stacy of Madame FREAKIN' Webb before they roll in that waste of time.

I'm pretty sure Dunst has done this before, before the making of spidey 2, she was quoted for saying that the lizard and doc ock would be in the film. So maybe she just likes playing the media, or maybe dunst is a ditz... In any case I look foward to seeing Venom, and I hope GG2 won't have the exact suit as his dad, as for Sandman, I could think of more compelling characters to wrap up the trilogy with.
But all these guys might water down the story.

I think Venom should have been saved for a while, and they should have had Grace play Quentin Beck aka Mysterio. I think that would have been better, cos i I can't picture Grace doing serious movies.

Well...technically, Lizard was in SM2, ala Dr. Connor's brief appearance.

Agreed. Im an advocate of having only ONE fucking villain per film. MAYBE if they had Sandman, and then GG 2 near the end, that would work.

As of now, with this two, possible three villain thing Raimi has goin on, I'm seriously sceptacle as too the quality of this film.

Yeah, I know, I'm not a big supporter of multiple villains in one movie, save Batman Begins. As good as THC looks as Sandman, I wish Raimi would wrap up the Goblin Legacy in this movie to cap off the trilogy and move onto the Symbiote Saga in the next trilogy.

Some of you are saying that you dont want venom to be the villain in this one bc you want him to be a finale...just so you know there probably isnt going to be a sixth film....well there is only actually suppose to be 3...they never confirmed their would be a 2nd trilogy, they are just toying with the idea of a fourth movie...i doubt they will have a 2nd trilogy...so i think making venom in this movie is a real great idea...plus they should make a clifhanger in the end showing eddie brock in a jail cell with Cletus Kasady ( carnage )...so that in the fourth film it will be carnage vs. venom. vs spiderman.....sweet!!!!

one of the things me and my friends have been tossing about is that brock will only become venom at the end a la harry in SM2. i don't know if there's any speculation on this already as i'm trying to avoid to much spoilage but what do you reckon?

Well in the actual comics it is a long process for venom to be created. I think I'll know how much of a major part Brock's Venom character will play in SM3 from where the story starts in the film.

If J. Jameson's son is going to space at the start Venom will make an appearance.

so that in the fourth film it will be carnage vs. venom. vs spiderman.....sweet!!!!

I hate Carnage. This would suck a whole lotta ass!

My bet is that Venom will be an on going villian throughout the movie-series.

I think that because of the success of the Spiderman Franchise, they'd be crazy if they did not green light an ongoing Spiderman Movie Series.

Why kill off Venom...? Perhaps he'll get his own movie(s) someday. He's a big enough character - sort of.
