Tom DeLay, Republican Rep. from Texas was indicted on criminal charges of conpiracy of financial fraud, along with two political associates.

The cahrge is that he laundered contributions from corporations through a political action committee they put together "TEXANS FOR A REPUBLICAN MAJORITY PAC" which was meant to help Texas GOP candidates (looks like it has been....) -- This, of course is in violation of most state campaign laws.

Here is just one of the many news sources reporting on it -

Some Republicans have rallied to defend DeLay, saying once the charges are cleared, it will be of no consequence to him returning to his post -- Though I've only found sparce details about these statements.

Represenative Peter King, of NY said "If anthing, this indictment may have rallied the party around DeLay."

Just goes to show that some people may not actually live by the motto "Fool me once..."

I heard tonight that the Washington Post is saying that these are trumped up charges for doing something that they all do. It should be interesting.

He had to, but as long as he does not get convicted (I don't think he will) he can resume as majority leader.

Oh and yeah, I dream of an impeachment too. Those are great things.

What’s the evidence against the guy? From what I understand there’s a conspiracy theory and a check. Is there anything else I'm missing?

Nope.

I'm thinking if anything, they're trying to uncover some shit that will force him to resign outright.
