Here in Australia, SBS is showing one of the great film's every wednesday night at 11. They kicked it off with Porco Rosso the week just ending and next is Laputa: Castle in the sky. As far as i know they are showing the six that are available on dvd here down under (Porco Rosso, Laputa - Castle In The Sky, Kiki's Delivery Service, Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind, Princess Mononoke & Spirited Away).
As for the timing, i dont get it, perfect films for young audiences yet so late!!! Ahhwels what can ya do, atleast they are being shown! Anyone that can should definatly catch em on cause theyre a great watch!
Discuss the films!

lucky bastards :p
aside from Spirited Away, they never show Miyazakis films (or anime for that matter) in the UK
i have seen Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind, Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away which are all excellent and some of the best animated films ive ever seen

I'm not a huge fan of Hayao Miyazaki. I adored Princess Mononoke and loved Spirited Away the first time I saw it (don't like it anymore, now it just bores me). Porco Rosso wasn't great (I saw it a while ago, though, might be forgetting it) and . . . that's all I got. I'm interested in Nausicaa since Dead Halloween mentioned it, is it any good?
Oh and, anyone else not like the 'classic' character designs used in Ghibli movies?

Well the marathon's finally finished!!
And what can i say, these are some of the most awe inspiring films i have seen! Valley of the Winds and Castle in the sky had my jaw dropped with every large thing they had in it, they and along with Spirited Away, i foudn them to be breath-taking. Porco rosso wasnt much i found, but Kiki's was still pretty good, but i wasnt amazed by it like the other films. They didnt show mononoke but ill rent it out. The feeling and visuals of these films surpass anything Disney has accomplished since thier glory days, that says alot, i guess they must be jealous or something...but these films have really struck a chord with me. Highly recommended!
X, definatly check out valley and castle, you might find them more appealing then spirited away.

i agree, the visuals and images he creates are amazing and they are some of the most thought provoking films (animated or otherwise) that ive seen
if you liked them you should love Princess Mononoke, its the best out of them IMO

Wow, that sounds fantastic. I haven't been on the boards in about 5 months and all of a sudden an anime section lol.
