Brandon Lane is a former college football star whose uncanny ability to predict the outcome of a game introduces him to an unexpected new career when his gridiron glory is sidelined by a crushing injury. Brandon's talent makes him a prime candidate for recruitment by Walter Abraham, the head of one of the biggest sports consulting operations in the country. Walter hires the small town ex-athlete and grooms him into a shrewd front man. Brandon soon begins to enjoy his status as a Manhattan golden boy and finds himself growing comfortable with Walter's high-rolling lifestyle. The surrogate father/surrogate son relationship fattens Walter's business and personal accounts...until Brandon's golden touch begins to falter at the same time that Walter's manipulation of his protege crosses the line. With millions of dollars on the line, Brandon and Walter engage in a deadly game of con versus con, each one trying to maintain the upper hand while everyone in their world, including Walter's wife, Toni, is drawn into the escalating duel.

I think this looks really fun. The cast is awesome and the trailer was a million times better than I was expecting. I thought it would be really stupid but it looks awesome! I'll try to see it opening weekend.

Moviefan02000,

From now on, please don't put the name of the actors in the title of threads, it just makes the thread topics too long and cluttered looking.

Thanks.

Sorry The Other! I don't see the big deal, I think it makes it look better and nobody else has said anything about it. I won't do it anymore though.

5/10

If you see the movie, you would understand. It throws together a ton of subplots, none of which are all that significant, and none of which are even remotely tied up in the end. What you get when Two For The Money is over, is a movie that was slightly entertaining, but too full of nonsense that it is impossible to fully enjoy.

I went to see this one earlier tonite, and thought it was pretty good for your typical Sports Betting movie....

When I first saw the trailer, I thought it was gonna be a bit different than what I ended up watching... Basically McConaughey's character is really good at making sports bets and predicting winners.... Pacino's character plays as his "boss/mentor" who has a horrible gambling problem, but has a TON of money and is sorta "the bad guy" in a way...

The story's not the best, and I can't really stand McConaughey at all... He plays the same fucking character in EVERY one of the (few) movies he's in... With that horribly agitating hick accent... Pacino carried this movie from start to finish, and Rene Russo is just getting older and uglier by the second....

Other than that, it was ALRIGHT... If you liked movies like Rounders and Boiler Room, you should enjoy this one (though the aformentioned 2 flicks were leaps and bounds better ! :p)

** BRIEF SPOILERS**

I have to admit I am not aHuge fan of some of Pacino's latest work, with the exception of (Merchant of Venice, Any Given Sunday, and Insomnia) but this one got me going. This movie was just what I thought it would be and some. Al Pacino plays a hard gambler who cant seem to stop himself, and uses Mathew to make him money, even though you dont find that out untill the end. The movie had its share of humorous moments, for example the gambler anonomouse class, but aside from that it had a crafty hidden subplot (the ending gives away the hidden part) Keep in mind if you watch this movie that Mathew cant seem to loose. He is going 13-2 almost every weekend. The guy is unstopable. Untill it appears he goes into this slump. Not just any slump but a BAD slump. I'm talking about 1-14.
**HEAVY SPOILERS**
But what you dont know is that he is setting Pacino up to loose, because subcontously he knows Pacino (who keep in mind claims hes been gambling free for 18 years) is back into gambling and using Matts picks as his anchor. There is 2 key scenes that give this away. One is the meeting at the gamblers anonomous class. Pay attention to his dialogue. Claiming Gamblers get a certain High from loosing. that Gamblers want to loose. Sounds crazy yes but in a way it's not. The second scene is when Matt, knowing he cant loose, asks for more money and Pacino grabs him and yells "If you want what more from me You have to take it, and fight me for it". Takeing that Mathew takes control over the entire situation, his life everything.
** END OF HEAVY SPOILERS**

The movie I thought was great. Definetly will be in my top 10 films this year, maybe even top 5. Pacino plays a great role and Mathew's performance was great. Rene Russo's role was fantastic as well. If your looking for a great movie to see this weekend this is a def. to check out. Its got a great subplot and an even better ending!

8.5/10

It was nice to see Rene back and that it's actually a substantial part with some weight and not some nothing role like I originally thought it would be. Armand Assante is also back and he's great too. He's only in two scenes but he's very effective, very menacing.

Al Pacino is fantastic here. When the twist is revealed at the end concerning his character, it's very heartfelt. A very moving scene because of the performances from Pacino and Russo. And Mathew McConaughey gives what may be his best performance since 1996's A Time to Kill. Liked the movie a lot. It wasn't what I was expecting. It's much better.
