Normally I like a good chick flick now and then. I really enjoyed RIDING IN CARS WITH BOYS and I loved THE SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING PANTS. This on the other hand just looks really boring and stupid. I might see it at the $1 theater but I definetely won't be seeing it first run.

'Tis not a film by dullards, my good man. 'Tis a good film.
My expectations were low for this, too, but once you see it, you can't help but be sucked in by the story and characters (thanks to sharp writing and terrific acting).

I've seen a lot of positive reviews for this and it's even better to see a schmoe really enjoy it. Maybe if more schmoes enjoy it as well as critics, I might see it first run.

It's no LA Confidential or Wonder Boys but it's a very good movie nonetheless with great performances from Toni Collette and the underrated Cameron Diaz.

For starters, this movie is vastly superior to Riding in Cars with Boys and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, both of which are painfully mediocre at best. I think this has much more depth to it, thanks to Curtis Hanson and Susannah Grant. The story is nothing groundbreaking, but extremely good acting, smart writing and excellent directing make this something special and worth seeing. The three leading ladies are superb, clearly relishing the opportunity to portray a three-dimensional character. You really come to care about these women, even the initially awful human being Diaz. Their growth feels natural, rather than contrived or forced, as in most "chick flicks." The story is allowed to breath. Thankfully, I never felt that it became too sentimental. It is fairly predictable, it runs a little too long (10-15 minutes could have and should have been cut) and a few scenes are a tad hokey and/or cliched, but overall, I was engaged from start to finish and more than pleased with the end result. I really enjoyed it. I think (most) males will enjoy it as much as females.

I went to see this today and originally was NOT on my list of MUST SEE flicks but it was my Day Off from work so WHAT DA HELL.....
Cameron Diaz is somewhat likeable in this but I was goin MORE for Toni Collette!!!! I LOVE DIS WOMAN!!! She is like buttah! A STEECK OF BUTTAH!!!!! :D
*** MAY GO INTO SPOILERS!***
The reviews ranged from ok to mixed bag.
What I got out the movie, Diaz is definately the yeah whatever girl who will scheme her ways and will rob you blind or just make life difficult for you or should I say give you a migrane headache.
Collette lays out the signs for Diaz in gettin herself somekind of job. Have some kind of independence but she is not ready to let go of her old ways. When Collette pretty much has had it w/ Diaz she kicks her to the curb. Diaz knew she had the ability to make somethin of herself. It just depended WHEN she was goin act on that. But the person that really puts Diaz's character in place is Shirley Maclaine. And Diaz's character FINALLY FINALLY matures and grows up and the scence at the wedding I hate to say got me all choked up....
"In Her Shoes" was a pretty good movie and it was NICE to see a mature crowd showin up and NOT these a-hole usuals ruining the goin to the theater movie experience.

I think it was the official (read: second) poster for the movie, and then used for the European one. It is the better poster though.
I'm half and half on this movie, despite the positive buzz. I'll just wait for video.

IN HER SHOES is one of this year's biggest surprises to me. Not only is the film fun to watch, it has a heart and the acting is brilliant. I hope at least one of the three lead women get an Oscar nomination for their performances. They all really deserve it. The film is filled with laugh out loud moments and cry moments. Definetely not your average chick flick. One of the best films of the year.
