Some of these look very interesting. I kinda enjoyed the Blood anime but felt it was a little bit slight. The potential was undoubtably there though so here's hoping that the series will allow them to realise that potential. The image you've posted is certainly visually striking. As is the image from Ergo Proxy. I've yet to see any of Samurai Champloo or Witch Hunter Robin (though I do have the latter on DVD) but both series were highly rated so I anticipate that Ergo Proxy will be a quality show. I'm actually a fan of the live action Guyver movies and enjoyed what I saw of the anime series so any addition to this franchise is welcome. I'm not terribly fond of console game spin-offs but I will admit that the original Street Fighter Anime (y'know the one where Chun Li gets her jugs out...yowza) was extremely impressive so i'll reserve judgement.

Heavily interested in "Ergo Proxy" and "Guyver". Also, somewhat on Blood, but I haven't seen the movie so I can't say.
Also, don't forget the "Full Metal Alchemist: The Conqueror Of Shamballa" movie that's coming to the U.S. soon and got hailed reviews at Japan.

Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl) (http://www.jigokushoujo.com/)
Somewhere in the vast sea of the Internet, there's a website that can only be accessed at the stroke of midnight. Known as the Jigoku Tsushin, rumor has it that if you post a grudge there, the Jigoku Shoujo will appear and drag whoever torments you into the inferno. Very little is known about the girl - all we know for sure is that she lives with her equally enigmatic grandmother, that three magical straw dolls accompany and serve her, and that whenever a posting on the Jigoku Tsushin moves her, she becomes the Jigoku Shoujo.

This is amazing news. The Hobbit was the book that introduced me to fantasy but A Wizard Of Earthsea was the one that made me a lifelong fan of the genre. I was bitterly disappointed when the Sci-Fi Channel unleashed their woeful mini-series based on Le Guin's stunning novels. Hopefully this will redress the balance.

Mexican Directors Fly Japanese Anime Kite Into Live-Action
Mexican commercial directors Jorge and Javier Aguilera — known as Big Brother — have been tapped to helm the live-action adaptation of the Japanese anime, KITE, reports VARIETY. Rob Cohen and Anant Singh are producing.
Singh and Brian Cox will produce for Singh's Distant Horizon. Cohen and Marc Pitre will produce for Cohen's Nowita Pictures. Joshua Rubin is penning the script.
The story follows a young woman, whose parents have been murdered, who is taken in by a corrupt detective who uses homeless kids to do assassinate people. Eventually, the young woman turns her vengeance on the cop. The live-action version will take place in a not-to-distant future where a police state has grown out of exaggerated fears of terrorism.
Yasuomi Umetsu created the original anime.

I just got back from Anime Boston this weekend where I saw a trailer for Full Metal Alchemist: The Conqueror Of Shamballa and a really great and entertaining panel with Vic Mignogna (voice actor for Ed) telling stories and talking about making it. It looks awesome and Vic says that it should get a short theatrical release in major cities in early September. Then, the DVD should be released later in the month to coincide with the release ot the last episodes and will have lots of extras. :)

I'm psyched for the movie in English. I saw it fansubbed and there were a few points that weren't very clear. I still enjoyed it though... good art, very good action towards the end and an interesting conclusion.
I'd love to see it in theaters. I think if America responds well it could start a trend. The only Anime movies to get theatrical releases here are Miyazaki ones. Hopefully Alchemist could trigger something because there are few things I can imagine enjoying more than anime on the big screen. I hope Boston is one of those major cities...

New Evangelion Anime Movie(s) Coming?
One of the biggest rumors running this summer among Japanese fans online involves Studio GAINAX, presumably under the aegis of Director Hideaki Anno, re-editing and adding new animation footage to the original 1995 26 episode Evangelion TV series (ala Gundam Zeta) and releasing them as a series of new movies to Japanese theaters. So the story goes, as many as 4 movies could be produced and the 4th one may be entirely new material or may contain an entirely new ending to the Evangelion saga. A side rumor from a few months ago indicates a staff room for Evangelion was being created or renovated at GAINAX HQ. This questionable information started circulating prior to the below mentioned GAINAX search launched, looking for production and animation staff for a forthcoming Hideaki Anno directed animated film project codenamed "Color" (Khara). Those who meet the criteria are encouraged to email to joboffer(AT)khara.co.jp or call. What can be confirmed now as fact is Evangelion and project "Color" are connected and the proof can be found on GAINAX's official EVA website. At the bottom of the page, the copyright statement has added "color" (in katakana) to the Project Eva copyright information. Other twists include the following: A whois search for the domain khara.co.jp reveals it is registered to Khara Corporation. The name Todoroki Ikki is listed as registration and tech contact. It's worth noting Anno Hideaki appeared in the movies Taste of Tea and Naisu No Mori with Todoroki Ikki. Additionally, a search on GAINAX's company overview page shows the Director's name is no longer present. This is leading many to speculate "Color / Khara" could be a spinoff studio perhaps similar to Hideo Kojima's production label "Kojima Productions" or Hayao Miyazaki's private office "Ni Bariki".

"There will be a continuation of the anime Gunslinger Girl. The popular and well-respected 2003 show was only 13 episodes long, while the manga has eight volumes out in Japan and is still ongoing, so there's plenty of material for them to cover at this point.
Gunslinger Girls is the tale of a group of young girls who have been scientifically altered and trained to be the most efficient killing machines ever. This isn't just some badass action show though; the series takes a strong look at the emotional and psychological effects of forcing young people into such a role. FUNimation has the license for the original anime in the U.S.; ADV has the manga."

I really want to see how they do "End of Evangelion" this time around. I mean there is nothing wrong with the current one (after multiple viewings I understand MOST of it), I just thought that was always the "worst case scenario" ending. I know Anno did that as a "fuck you" to the fans after they shitted on the last 2 episodes of the series. I just hope that this time there will be more of a "good" ending. I mean I don't mind if characters still die I would like to see Shinji and Eva Unit 01 actually fight this time and maybe have a different outcome.

X-Nightcrawler you're thinking about Eva Unit 03 the black eva they brought over from the United States. I know that scene better still be there! Eva Unit 04 was the reason they moved Unit 03 to Japan. Remember they said that Eva Unit 04 was being tested with the experimental S2 engine but something happened and it destroyed the Nerv-2 base in Nevada. Eva 04 was never actually seen in the anime series but they had pics and figures for it. It looks like Unit 03 except silver. I just thought it would be cool if they showed it this time around before it goes Chernobyl!

Petit Eva~Evangelion@School~
The Bandai Channel website announced that Petit Eva~Evangelion@School~, the "first official super-deformed series" based on Neon Genesis Evangelion, will be adapted for video. The official announcement will be made in the September issue (on sale August 10) of Newtype magazine in Japan. The Gainax/Khara franchise spinoff spoofs the psychological science fiction drama by reimagining the characters as classmates in a Tokyo-3 school headed by Principal Gendō Ikari and Misato-sensei. The student body includes three different Rei "sisters," the EVA-01 mobile weapon reimagined as the school bully Evanchō, and the ill-fated Jet Alone robot as JA-ko, a "hidden character" in the form of a shy android girl.
Ryuusuke Hamamoto created the character designs which has inspired four-panel gag manga serializations in four different magazines: Monthly Shōnen Ace, Newtype, Dengeki Hobby Magazine, and Figure Oh. The Petit Eva project has also developed merchandising from super-deformed figurines to limited edition Doritos corn chips.

The videogame franchise established the survival horror subgenre of games and have sold 33 million copies worldwide. Resident Evil just doesn't have the material for a good movie. It's the gameplay that makes the game: creepy atmosphere, exploring huge mansions or castles, encountering different villains, etc. I know they made a decent amount of money, but the movies really sucked, and I'm sure this one will be the same.

Disney to Produce Animation in Japan
TOKYO (AP) — Entertainment giant Walt Disney Co. will team up with several Japanese companies to produce animation for television in Japan, a leading market, a Disney official said Thursday.
Disney will work with Toei Animation Co., Madhouse Co. and Jinni's Animation Studios, said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity to comply with company rules.
The move was aimed at localizing contents of Disney products for a wider audience, she said.
"We need to make contents which fit the Japanese market to further boost the popularity of Disney in Japan," she said.
With Madhouse, Disney will produce a 30-minute TV program "Stitch!," an offspring of the Lilo & Stitch series, to be aired in Japan, the official said, adding that the company has not decided when the show will go on air.
A Japanese girl named Hanako will play Stitch's sidekick in the new show and the imaginary story will take place in a southern Japanese island, instead of in Hawaii as in the original, the company said in a statement.
With Jinni, Disney will make a short animation "Fireball," which will go on air in April on Disney's cable channel and Tokyo Metropolitan Television, according to the official.
Disney will produce a short animation "Robodz" for television with Toei Animation, expected to be aired in June, she said.
The company had announced a tie-up with Toei Animation in 2006, but the partnerships with Madhouse and Jinni were announced for the first time Thursday, she said.
The moves allow Disney, based in Burbank, Calif., to tap local talent and computer graphics technology to produce programs in Japan. Disney has no immediate plans to air the programs in other countries, but it is eyeing overseas markets, she said.
Disney has its own animation and movie channels in more than 100 countries, including Japan, where it launched Disney Channel in 2003. The company also started offering a cellular phone service here this month.
The company said that it has produced TV series and films in other countries, denying reports this was the first time Disney has gone offshore with the core production processes for major programs.
Disney could expand partnerships with other companies, the official said.

Full Metal Alchemist returns?
Late last week, a file that was purportedly to be a management document from the BONES anime studio was added to uploader.jp, a Japanese website that offers to distribute files anonymously and without charge. The spreadsheet file in Microsoft Excel format included a list of the studio's animation staffers along with what were reportedly their phone numbers, comments on their affiliation and availability, a letter-based classification system, their assignments, and their addresses. Among other points, it listed Fullmetal Alchemist animator Yasuhiro Irie as "Hagane 2 kantoku" (Iron/Fullmetal 2 director) and Darker than BLACK director Tensai Okamura as "Darker 2 junbi-jū" (preparing for Darker 2).
BONES President Masahiko Minami has posted an official statement about the file on the studio's website on Sunday. According to Minami, an internal investigation has determined that no file with this same formatted information existed within the company. He adds that the information which was reportedly the staffers' personal details did not come from the company's documents. Thus, the studio has determined that "a third party" had created and posted the document with the intent to libel the company. The studio will continue a special investigation into who distributed the file to malign the studio and the staffers. In an interview after the official statement was published, ANN asked Minami about the possibility of a sequel to Fullmetal Alchemist or Darker than BLACK. Minami told ANN, "It hasn't been decided yet. We are interested in doing them. As original science-fiction works, they were extremely fascinating. With these kinds of dramatic story lines, I feel that there's a lot we could do potentially." The rest of the interview will be released on the ANN website after Anime Expo.
